    Thank you Grete . I was born in Vienna and emigrated 1969 . Whenever I visited my hometown the use of trains , buses and subways became increasingly confusing to me. I solved that by renting a car . Since the last couple of years that proved to be no solution either , because parking has become a nightmare. Next time I will get the app you mention and try my luck .

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  6 місяців тому

      In Vienna, there's no need to show your ticket before boarding the bus, tram, or subway. However, it's essential to keep your ticket with you and not discard it until your ride is complete or until you've exited the subway station. This is because ticket inspectors conduct random inspections on public transport.

    I have a question regarding the "Vienna Airport Lines VAL 2 service". I've been reading some reviews online suggesting unreliability, particularly regarding bus driver behavior. I need to use this service around 4am, I'm afraid it's a bad idea.
    Is the reliability of the VAL 2 a concern, or would you recommend another option to ensure I make my flight on time?

    Hi Grete, thanks for this awesome video. I would like to ask if there is such a thing like Austrian Pass? Wherein I can purchase a ticket to travel the different regions in Austria? I'm planning to stay in Vienna but would love to visit other places like Salzburg ,Graz and Hallstatt.

      With the "Klimaticket" ("Climate Ticket") you can use all of the public transport in Austria and it is valid for one year. But since it is quite expensive (1095 EUR) it is probably not the right choice for a weekend. I think the cheapest choice would be to try to book your train or bus tickets well in advance. Then you will be able to get the cheapest deals. And then buy passes for the local public transport. Also you could look into the "Vorteilscard" of the Austrian Train Services (ÖBB). With this card you will get 50% off the price of a regular train ticket. If you buy the "Vorteilscard" online at shop.oebbtickets.at you will get the "Vorteilscard" cheaper (66 EUR instead of 99EUR). Hope this helps and have a good time in Austria!

    It can be added that Wiener Linien tickets are also valid on the S-Bahn (Schnellbahn) and the local railway to Baden (Wiener Lokalbahn/Badner Bahn), on their routes within Vienna. S-Bahn trains run to many destinations in eastern Austria (including Vienna Airport in Schwechat), and there are many stations within Vienna.
    Vienna has a very good public transport system: almost everywhere can be reached easily and quickly, generally on time, tidily and safely. The authorities in Vienna had enough sense not to dismantle the tram network, as happened in many metropolises in the second half of the 20th century.

    • @RobertSochan
      @RobertSochan 2 місяці тому

      @@waitulfifika3415Yes, this ticket is valid on S7, but only within Vienna , i.e. from the station Wien Kaiserebersdorf, for the leg from the airport to the station Wien Kaiserebersdorf you need to buy a separate ticket of ÖBB (Austrian Railways), at a price of less than €2 (the price of separate ÖBB ticket from the airport to the centre, for example to the station Wien Mitte, is more than €4).
      At Vienna Airport there is the ÖBB desk, where you can buy both ÖBB and Wiener Linien tickets.

    We all thank you for your videos! Excellent job! We will come to your beautiful city at the end of September for 6 days. Since we'll leave the personal automobile at P+R Hütteldorf, I wonder if the 7-days ticket acquired via the Wien Mobile App will be enough to take the OBB or S trains from Hütteldorf to Westbahnhof. Or do I need to buy supplemental train tickets in Hütteldorf for these trains? It's unclear to me because this route is inside Vienna City. It's not the same situation as for the route from the Airport to the city. I will be grateful if you can help me with an answer.

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  8 місяців тому +1

      Yes you can use the 7 day ticket in for ÖBB trains within Vienna. No need to buy an extra ticket. If you cross the city boarder with the ÖBB trains, you have to pay for the distance outside the city. -But you can select, that you already have a ticket for Vienna, which makes the train ticket cheaper.

    Hi Grete. Sorry if this is a silly question, but what is a single fare ticket for? Does it mean I can only use 1 subway/bus/tram ride & that is it? If I have to take a bus & tram to my destination, should I buy only 1 single fare ticket or 2 single fare tickets? Thank you!

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  8 місяців тому +1

      That is a great question, since it is a little bit different all over the world :) In Vienna a single fare means:
      * The ticket is valid for one trip in one direction.
      * The means of transport (subway, tram, bus) can be changed as often as desired.
      * The trip may not be interrupted and may last a maximum of 80 minutes.
      So if you need to change for example from the subway to to bus, to get to your destination, you only need one ticket.

Is there any way around this or do I need to buy a separate ticket at the airport or an add on ticket as far as the core zone, then the 72 travel ticket from then onwards? I hope this makes sense. I am also looking to purchase the 7 days pass, in the website says the ticket is valid for seven days (until 01:00 am on the eighth day) if I start using it on a Sunday, do you know if the pass is good until next Sunday 1am or Monday 1am?

    • @gretetheaustrianguide

      Since the airport is outside of Vienna, you will have to purchase a ticket at least for the distance between the city boarder and the airport. I don't think, that the free ride for kids in Vienna also applies to S7 and the ÖBB, but to make sure, please check that directly at the ticket counter.
      When you buy a 7-day ticket online, it will show the specific date and time it's valid. Just add the ticket to your online shopping cart on the wiener linien website, and it will precisely indicate when it it is valid.

      As a Tourist, I'd go to one of the 3 Big Cell Phone Network Providers: A1, 3, T-Mobile. They should have dedicated Staff to explain the process to you. You'll have to provide an ID and maybe fill out some Form. This can also be done in Supermarkets, which can be very stressful when you have 10 People behind you waiting in line. I would also not go to one of those smaller Mobile Phone "Stores" that have funny Names like "City Mobile" or "Mobile World", they'll try to sell you a cheap Wallet and a cheap Watch, or whatever.

    Hi Grete, thanks for your video. May i ask which train company is the cheapest to travel from Vienna main station to Salzburg? And from Salzburg to Vienna Airport?

    • @gretetheaustrianguide
      @gretetheaustrianguide  6 місяців тому +1

      To travel from Vienna to Salzburg (and back) you can go by the ÖBB (federal railway service) and Westbahn (private trains). they both offer good and reliable service. Westbahn however doesn't stop at the main train station in Vienna, but on Westbahnhof. Both companies offer tickets starting from around 24 EUR. -But you need to book well in advance to get these cheap tickets.

      Hello, in both cases, you can use all of the public transport in Vienna (bus, tram, metro). Only the city airport train, airport buses, and the touristy hop-on-hop-off buses are not included. In fact, the tickets are exactly the same, except for the different times they are valid for. Honestly, the pricing doesn't make much sense to me either! ;)

    After a disastrous week trying to find my way around WienOhneHilfe using public transport I tried to get a ticket for the airport from an underground ticket machine. I clicked on Airport - it seemed logical - and paid for my ticket. One station before the airport, inspectors got on the train and told me my ticket was for a bus. I tried to explain how I obtained it and asked why an underground ticket machine would sell a bus ticket; the inspector did not comment but asked me to get off the train and buy another ticket. It is very important to know foreign languages on such trips. I would like to recommend to all travelers a practical guide to learning foreign languages by Yuriy Ivantsiv "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages". This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world!

      You probably bought a "vienna airport lines" ticket which is a bus shuttle service which is operated by a subsidiary company of Öbb. Therefore its obviously not valid for a train.
      Next time maybe inform yourself beforehand on the internet or by asking staff at an infopoint. Because like how can you expect to ride with any train you like, just because the ticket you bought says airport on it...
