@@gretetheaustrianguide Thank you😍
Thank you so much! very informative video and straight forward. Do you maybe have any recommendations to travel from Vienna Airport to Salzburg. I was looking into the OBB train, should I book the ticket before hand on their website? and I my flight should arrive at 9.30am and the train leaving at 10.30am, is there enough time ? Thank you!
Thank you so much for the information. If I would like to go to the hotel Imperial from the airport which train line will be the best option?
Great video, hope the OBB is still an option
yes it is!
hello, I'm Toto from Indonesia.
I really like this video, very helpful for people who are going to vienna.
I have subscribed to your channel.
In April I will ask you a lot of questions about transportation in Vienna.
Don't ever feel bored if I ask later.
thank you
Thank you 😊.
Thank you for the video. I almost booked CAT instead of OBB (much cheaper option).
Thanks . I am going to Vienna soon
Hello!
Thank you for the amazing video.
Could you advise please, what is the best route from the airport to Mariahilferstraße?
Thank you
Thank you :)
Hi Grete ! Is there a long distance train from Vienna airport to London or not , I wish to explain how to book and what are the procedures . I love ur videos
Thank you for the helpful video. If you take the S7 or the OBB and need to take a ubahn to the final desitnation will you need to pay again for the ubahn ticket? Thanks.
Wow this is so helpful, this is literally the thing that stresses me the most when traveling. I love the Step by step instructions. SO helpful
Great video Grete, we are coming to Vienna in April via train from Budapest, will we be arriving at the Hauptbahnhof Wien?
I’m pretty sure, my question is, one ticket non stop to the airport from our arrival point and do they have the same machines at Hauptbahnhof Wien? It was great to see your video at a time when I had this question, thank you 🙏
It should be added that if you have the Wiener Linien all-day ticket (which can be purchased online or at the airport at the ÖBB desk, and which is valid on all public transport services in Vienna), a ticket for the Schnellbahn is even cheaper, less than €2, up to the first station within Vienna, Wien Kaiserebersdorf - payment for the rest of the route is included in the Wiener Linien all-day ticket.
Greetings to Greta, the guide in my favourite tourist destination, an der schönen blauen Donau!
Thank you for the helpful addition!
@@gretetheaustrianguideIt's my pleasure.
Danke!! :)
grazie Grete!
sehr nett von dir!
It would be helpful to highlight the further price advantage of S7/ÖBB over the CAT in that the ticket allows further connections within the Vienna zone on metro, tram and bus. For CAT you would need an additional ticket.
Thank you for the helpful comment!
So if I get the OBB train from the airport to the central railway station(for example) for 4.20 euro I can then take bus or metro with the same ticket?
@@user-jg2um9nf2v Yes, if you stay within the city zone. The ticket has a time limit (I think 90 minutes). You can select your destination from the ÖBB ticket machine at the airport if you want to be absolutely sure about the price and validity.
@@user-jg2um9nf2v Yes (albeit the price has increased to 4.40€ by now).
A single ticket for two zones (Airport-Schwechat is the outer tariff zone, from Schwechat everything is the Vienna city zone) is valid for one trip in one direction, including changes (but not going backwards or in circles).
You can even mix a single-trip (to get into the city) and eg. 24-hour ticket (within the city); there should be options on the ticket machines if I remember correctly. (Else: just get single ticket to "Schwechat" and an eg. 24h for the city zone.)
Hi, thanks for the info, very useful. I am coming for a day trip to Vienna from London. Is there any day travel card I can take from airport, which include airport transfers as well
Thanks
Excellent video. Thank you.
I'm planning to visit Vienna in December. My flight back is in the early morning, so I'll have to use a taxi. I know there is a shuttle bus from the Westbahnhof, but my hotel in very close to Rennweg train station, Savoyen hotel.
What is the best way to order a taxi? And, may be, there is another way to reach the airport? (the flight is at 6:00)/
Thanks.
very good
Be careful when buying a ticket for the Schnellbahn S7. I went to Vienna last week. I ticked the senior ticket as I am 66. I was told by a ticket inspector that I had the wrong ticket. I apparently should have had a Vorteilscard. Which I wouldn't have known about as it was my first visit to Vienna. I got fined 105 euros. The inspector wasn't interested that it was accidental. The only place I saw an inspector was on the journey to Vienna and at the end of my holiday back to the airport. I feel there is an element of catching the tourist here. On the way back to the airport there were 3 German speaking guys who had the wrong ticket. The inspector didn't fine them but told them to get off at the next station. Be warned. Lovely city though!
Thank you for this helpful addition to the video! Discounts can indeed be tricky to navigate. There is more information on the ÖBB website about the discounts they offer (Information in English): www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten
Planning to visit Vienna from Malaysia…
Nice video. Liked the comparison screen. Is the su included in the 7 day travel card ?
This is a bit complicated: The airport is outside of vienna. If you take the S7 you obviously have to pay for the full distance. If you already have a ticket or travel pass for Vienna you only have to pay for the small part of the route, that is outside of vienna. At the ticket vending machine you can select the option, that you already have a ticket for Vienna. This will reduce the price for the ticket to (or from) the airport.
Thank you so much.
I hope to visit soon vainna
Hi Grete, your video has cleared many doubts, thanks for that! Now I want to know, if I have the Vienna City Card does it include my travel from airport to airbnd (knollgasse/davidgasse) via tram ?
Hi! It depends, which city card you bought and also which option. There ist an additional option for the airport transfer (22 EUR) if you choose the "Vienna City Card"
Thank you
Awesome video! In July I will go from Vienna Airport with OBB Railjet to Linz. Do I need to buy tickets online early in advance or I can buy OBB Railjet ticket when I arrive at the airport? Will the OBB Railjet ticket price be more expensive in July when I arrive at the airport? Also how do I validate OBB Railjet tickets? Before I enter the train or the conductor will validate the ticket in the train? Thanks!
Nice! Do I need to validate the ticket or just catch the train?
Hi Greta, thanks for the information!!! I will be going to Vienna next Saturday 20/04. Once I arrive at the airport, I’ll go to Vienna centre and so I’ll buy from a ticket machine OBB two tickets, one additional ticket for the borders of Vienna and one for 48 hours. Do I need to validate the 48 hours ticket or not? If yes, can I validate it at the airport station? Please let me know, thanks!!
Hello! Thank you very much for the information, i’m 17 years old and I’ll be flying at the end of march to Vienna solo and I would also like you to suggest me some places I can find stalls that sell cheap souvenirs like fridge magnets ☺️🇦🇹
Hi thanks for sharing! Is the VAL 1 bus reliable from Westbahnhof to Airport? I have an early morning flight to catch. Also the VAL website does not sell tickets for specific bus, you can buy and jump onto any bus in 48 hours. There were reviews that the bus is running late etc.
Hola voy a viajar del aeropuerto de Viena a innsbruck que me puedes recomendar soy de México
Hi! Thank you for such a useful video! I have a question, is it necessary to register or somehow check in an ÖBB ticket directly on the train, or do you just buy it in one of those vending machines and you're good to go?
Hi there! You can book the ticket online in advance for the öbb train. But it is not necessary. And honestly I would not recommend it, since sometimes the planes are delayed or it takes longer to pick up the luggage. -So it could happen that you miss the train you booked the ticket for. I would just buy the tickets at the vending machines and take the next train :) If you plan to go to Vienna you can also check out the Videos on my other channel. Its German but most videos (expecially the newer ones) have English subtitles! Channel name: is "Grete Walz" ua-cam.com/users/gretewalz
Excellent, Grete! My family/I will visit Vienna 4/9/23 - 4/15/23 and we will stay with Hotel Am Schubertring located at Schubertring 11, 1010 Wien, Austria. Based on what I saw from your video, it seems that we can buy tickets to take S7 from the airport to Wien Mitte and walk for about 14 minutes to the hotel. May you kindly advise if this scenario would be effective? Many thanks!
Hi Grete, great video, one question , if my hotel is in the Ringstrasse would I be able to reach the destination taking a taxi from Wien train station?
Hi, yes you should go there easily by taxi.
One important point you did not mention: the ÖBB tickets are part of the regional fare system (VOR), and therefore already include the trip in the city from the train station to your final destination (i.e. subways, trams and busses).
With the VAL and CAT you need an _extra_ ticket to get around in the city.
The VOR tickets can also be split at the city border. E.g. if you plan to use a day/7-day/8-day/week ticket for the city you can already purchase it at the airport and just add a single trip (1.90€) from the airport to the city border (station 'Schwechat', also designated 'Kernzonengrenze', i.e. central-zone border).
thank you for the addition!
Hi! Does it mean if we bought OBB train tickets from Prague to Vienna we don’t need to buy a separate ticket to get to city center?
Thank you!
@@sagynyshl7633 No, that's an international ticket, which is only valid on the train itself.
General rule: Standard tickets that are bought inside a fare system's region (eg. VOR = Vienna + Lower Austria + parts of Burgenland) are valid for all transport in that region. All other tickets (i.e. journeys that go beyond that region, discounted train tickets, international tickets, special offers like the CAT, ...) are only valid for the exact journey that's on the ticket.
Thank you for your efforts and time.
If possible, I would like to ask you how to go to the city center after you reach Wien Hbf. Do you take a bus or metro? How much does it cost? What is the line number or station name to get in the city center near the St. Stephen's Cathedral?
Appreciate your knowledge.
@@rooroo5039 From Vienna main station "Hauptbahnhof", the metro line U1 will bring you to the city center. The stop "Stephansplatz" is directly at the cathedral.
Alternatively, if you take a train from the airport that passes through "Wien Mitte" instead of Hauptbahnhof, metro line U3 will go to "Stephansplatz" from there.
A single ride ticket within Vienna currently costs 2.40€. But single tickets usually make little sense: the day ticket (valid till 1am in the morning) costs 5.80€, the 24/48/72-hour ticket (valid 24/48/72h from purchase/validation) is 8.00/14.10/17.10€. The tickets can be used on all modes of public transportation within Vienna (bus, tram, metro, railway).
Hello, can I get a ticket for the OBB train from the Airport to Breclav in the Czech Republic as a connection trip? Thank you for such a good video.
Hey,
Can you please tell me if austria eurail pass will cover the journey from vienna airport to the city centre?
Also,is it worth to buy a rail pass if i want to make 3-4 trips in austria?
Hi! . I have a question? Do u know if is friendly pram to travel from hbf to vienna airport by obb ? I will travel with my son and I want.to know if it is not so difficult with a pram plus a luggage .
Hello, thank you very much for your explanations. I want to go to Westbahnhoff. How can I get there if I use S Bahn?
Airport --> Wien Mitte --> ? --> Westbahnhoff
and which transfer should I use?
Thank you,
Can you prefer me please
Hello! We are planning to visit Vienna at 11/07/2022! Do you know if I can go to Praterstern station with the S7 Train?
Hi, very good and well explained video. One question, on top of the 4,20 train ticket to Vienna center. Do we also need to buy/pay 1.90 for the city boarder? Thank you
The ticket will include the whole distance from Vienna Airport to your destination in the city. However, you will need an extra ticket, for Vienna, if you plan to do more trips in Vienna on that day.
Very useful. One question: The choice on the machine screen for S7 is the one that writes "RegionalExpress 7"?
yes
it also doesen't matter if you really take the chosen train. the öbb now uses the same software for online booking and ticket machines outside, so you have to choose a train otherwise you cannot buy a ticket.
is there any closing time for the train? as we arrived at Vienna from Paris at around 8pm
Thanks for this important video, please why not exist train from Vienna main station to klagenfurt at early morning, first train departs at 8 AM, thanks again for help
Hi. Thank you so much for this. Please make more like this, its very helpfull.
Can you tell me, how to best go from hbf to the natural museum. I simply don’t get how to get the right tickets and lines. Will it make sense when we arrive? And also, is 2 hours there even enough. We are coming in by train at about 12.30, from Kufstein, and are flying from Vienna airport at 18.45, so not a lot of time unfortunately. We need to leave hbf at 17.12 I think. Then we have an hour and 15 to find he plane. We have prepaid for “pre check in”. We have 2 children with us, and I know they will love the museum, but if you have other recommendations it’ll look into that.
Hi! I recommend to search for the connections in google maps. I think its the easiest way to navigate in Vienna. There are different connections from Hauptbahnhof to Naturhistorisches Museum. But I would probably Tram Line D, which is a direct connection.
Also your schedule is pretty tight. I think it can work but it will probably be a bit stressful.
