I have been using the catwalk on the outside walls at floor level, to add a flipped wall for wallpaper outside. Saves adding and removing the temporary floor. Great video! Lots of stuff I didn't know. Thanks for sharing. :)
Great tutorial and video! Thank you for sharing this with the building community. I have been using the magic catwalks for for a while now. I used them to build a shack on top of the crashed plane prebuilt. The shack is actually floating with roofs as floors because the plane will not let you build floors close to the top of the plane. However, the roofs are actually able to slightly merge with the top of the plane when snapped into position. The shack appears to be supported by the plane and stair posts. I also used them to build a service catwalk up to the top of the crashed plane windmill. With my floating shack I actually used the catwalks to place all of the walls because there was no way to put the floors in even temporarily over the crashed plane. We'll see if they actually revert them. They could just be adding in the "fixes" at the end of the release adjustments. If they already patched them before they probably have the code ready to be put in place.
Really awesome work with this! I wonder if it has something to do with the relaxed building rules for vaults and they just "forgot" to correct them for the catwalks outside of vaults. xD It's weird, whatever the case is. Some great ideas for how to use this though! Well played.
Thanks. I think this is a result of the "fix" they did for the snapping. When these released they wouldn't snap to each other. So I'm guessing they didn't have enough time to work out all the kinks for the fix, and divided to at least have them useable before refining it later. 👍🍻
The catwalks are very useful, and the alien ones work the same as the vault ones. They did patch out the place anywhere blueprint glitch, but everything else still works.
@@MADharvey95 you can still place the walls using them. There used to be a way to blueprint stairs and a catwalk that the game would let you then place anywhere you wanted.
VERY long delay response, but am I bugged? I can no longer place the vault catwalks in my camp(I can in the shelters, but they do not show in build/buy when above ground/at camp or workshops) - was this changed stealthy in some update?
How do you get rid of floating stairs and attached floors without destroying the entire build? And is there a safe way to use this to get floors to an upper floor without stairs?
As far as I know you've got to have stairs to place an upper floor. So no floating floors by themselves. If you want that, you're going to have to substitute floors with roofs. As for getting something removed, you've got to build back down to the ground with stairs and attach a foundation so it has "Support".
I am unable to test it myself (stuck at work), but the catwalks are back in the atom shop, and a friend of mine says the tricks don't work anymore. Can anyone test this?
Awesome video thanks, now a dumb question I haven’t seen posted yet. New camp options we’re getting in April to save your camp at any location and have another in a slot 2 location. Does anyone know if you have a tamed pet at location 1 and move your camp module to a new slot 2 location would your pet move with module or stay put? Thanks
That's a good question, I don't think we'll get an answer to until we test it out. The taming mechanic hasn't gotten much love, so it'll be interesting if the developers made it work. Hopefully they'll appear at the new location with no issues, instead of having to run across the map to the new camp like when you first tame them.
I know the tame counts toward your camp budget, so I'm guessing the tame will be unique to that camp, otherwise there'd be a camp budget issue if you tamed with one camp built then switched to another with max budget already.
They must have patched it a bit because before I would have to build back up with regular pieces to remove the floating ladder previously attached to the catwalk.
Just saw this so sorry for the late reply. I know they updated them at some point because when they first released they didn't snap correctly to each other. 👍

You can still leave a set of floating stairs using the catwalks, so if you build from the ground to the structure roof then you can leave a floating set of stairs, remove the scaffolding you used to get it there and then build upper floors on top and bottom of the floating stairs.
@@VladministratorGaming the structure is a Excavator near Welch, i can go on top of that structure but there it´s a small area to put some items, but there is no space to build a camp, but if the stair blueprint was still on, then it possible, but sadly that´s another story

Not that I'm aware of. You should be able to use them both in and out of shelters.

Yes, that is correct. Everything else still works though. Great for building things downward. 👍
