Such an amazing song. I wasn’t sure what to think about it the first time listened but after 4 maybe 5 times it honestly gets better each time. Just insane stuff. Thanks for doing what you do. Huge fan my man.
Following that, I seriously hoped he'd check out more 7-20+ min prog epics (Symphony X - Odyssey, to name another of my top 3 songs). Then djent and core took over, whelp :D
Longtime fan here, and this track sounds old school and fresh at the same time. The instrumental part in the middle is half guitar solo, then switches to keyboard solo. Rudess is so good at mimicking a guitar that a lot of people cannot tell. This is Mike Mangini on the drums, who has been with the band for a few albums now. Good reaction and hope you do more Dream Theater. An album reaction to The Astonishing would be amazing, and from what I can tell nobody has done it yet.
I've been a Theater fan since day one too and I know "the real fans (lol)" hated The Astonishing, but me personally, I loved it! Couldn't get enough of it!
He did 'The Endless Knot' on stream and I don't think he liked it. But that track is definitely one of their outliers. The dubstepy approach is not their status quo.
I‘ve watched every single one of your „Dream Theater“ reactions and was so hoping to see you react to „The Alien“ as well. You wanna react to the whole new album? I‘m in for it!
Been waiting a long time for more DT / Symphony X etc, since A Change of Seasons and Divine Wings of Tragedy (I laughed when you said "you didn't really like the thrashy parts", then you started loving the song at THE thrashiest part.. :D). You should really check out "Breaking All Illusions" by DT for an AWESOME guitar solos - you won't get many of those from the djent bands. Symphony X - The Odyssey (top 3 songs of all time) and Nevermore - Born (you'd fucking love the drums & guitars) would be insane as well. Seventh Wonder - The Great Escape would be the biggest surprise (and journey) for sure! The third of my top 3 songs of all time (31 minute prog EPIC with an AMAZING singer, bass player and piano player, plus some VERY tasty guitar solos).
You really should check out Systematic Chaos by Dream Theater. You haven't experienced In the Presence of Enemies Parts 1 & 2 and Dark Eternal Night from this epic album.
Definitely check some songs from the album Train of Thought as it's one of the more chuggier ones. In the Name of God is one of my favourites from the album
Old-school DT fan here. But new DF fan. You should definitely check out Illumination Theory - but try the live version at the Boston Opera House imo. They perform that song so well live and there are some lovely surprises in there... Thanks for allowing me to see my favorite band through fresh eyes, man. Much love to ya.
Classy intro, mo chara. Sweet editing and nicely voiced over to generate the hype of the upcomin album to fans of the band who watch yer channel. Always been more of a casual listener to the lads here meself, but enjoy the reactions y'do. I remember the first reaction y'did last Summer in the first lockdown. Good to see y'come back to them like this, given all the good music that came yer way since. As usual with the song, its crammed with all sorts of starlit tangents that light up even more portals and loopholes to take you through with each listen. Good stuff.
Long time Tool and Gojira fan, if you want something similar to them, listen to The Ocean. Devonian:Nascent, The Great Dying, Triassic, Jurassic|Cretaceous, all of these great options to get started on an epic prog metal journey 🤘🏻
I’m gonna keep requesting them because I don’t have the money to donate onto your Patreon unfortunately, but I promise once you listen you’ll get hooked
@@TundraCH dude same! I my son was just born and I listened to that almost every day leading up to his birth. That and the song Invincible by Tool changed my life. Beautiful
And here's the ultimate, topmost, the greatest challenge for you: "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance". Self-titled suite, from self-titled album, more than 50 minutes long (the whole CD2 of the album). This is THE VERY BEST masterpiece not only by Dream Theater, but one of the very best in whole misuc history! Defenitely, your life will never be complete until yiu listen to this song. And I promise you, it is definitely more than worth each and every minute of your time! You just HAVE to ckeck it out! You will never regret it!
The only time I've ever seen Dream Theater included in a commercial integration was the 2002 Olympics....and it was awesome. ua-cam.com/video/nua1NrR9z-4/v-deo.html
Drew, if you prefer I recommend that you listen to some of their more straight forward songs like Take the time or Forsaken. Or a more proggy tune with an amazing hook is Home...one of my personal faves with great vocals. Please react to that!
DT, is one of those bands I think people can take or leave mainly because the vocals. No doubt they're incredible musicians it's the vocals that get me. People may say the same thing about bands like Rush, Smashing pumpkins etc.
19:19 that's not Mike Portnoy, he left the band in 2010 right after he finished the "12 step suite" that you already heard. The actual drummer is called "Mike Mangini", he has a lot to learn but he is getting there...
My first ever track recommend, came across this one yesterday. Worn by Aussie metalcore gang Convex which looks to have just come out. Some big new era Parkway vibes and the chorus has such an interesting chord progression to it - ua-cam.com/play/RDYjVGqRmZ7WU.html&playnext=1
Great reaction! You might want to check out these bands. They have one thing in common with DT, they all have Mike Portnoy playing Drums. Excellent!! Son's of Apollo, The Winery Dogs, Transatlantic, Neal Morse Band, Liquid Tension Experiment, All are Great. But Dream Theater is still Dream Theater. PS. I've watched ALL you DT reactions.
As a 30 year fan of Dream Theater, my entire musical experience changed when I got into them in early 1993. It opened a world of eclectic music that I probably wouldn't have gotten into otherwise. That being said, I have 2 words for you. Orbit Culture. Pick anything.
Please react to Lucid Planet's 'Organic Hard Drive' They've created a new genre, though I don't know what to call it. Maybe 'progressive prog' if that makes sense haha
I listened to this the first day it came out. Gave it some time to sit, so I'm ready to comment on it now. I love the music in it, particularly those beautiful slow solos from JP, but La Brie's voice just doesn't do it for me in this track.
I think you may have done yourself a disservice by only listening to to the 12 step suite. You never touched on some of the most beautiful tracks DT has created. I love the newer bands as much as you do but honestly, at least from a musician's standpoint, DT still ranks at the top of my list.
Very underwhelming track. It's like they took parts from previous tracks and just slapped them together. I feel like I have heard every single riff and melody in this song before.
I disagree. They're the Tool of their own genre. They totally defined it. They love playing with time signatures. They're regarded as some of the best in the business. Shall i go on?
Drop a like on this video if you were here since my first started listening to DT❤️🚀
More DT reactions, Please
Such an amazing song. I wasn’t sure what to think about it the first time listened but after 4 maybe 5 times it honestly gets better each time. Just insane stuff. Thanks for doing what you do. Huge fan my man.
Appreciate you Justin❤️
YES!! I do indeed remember Change of Seasons. Classic
Following that, I seriously hoped he'd check out more 7-20+ min prog epics (Symphony X - Odyssey, to name another of my top 3 songs). Then djent and core took over, whelp :D
I just looooooovvvee this song, it's raw and it's beautiful at the same time ,just one of their amazing works till date.
Longtime fan here, and this track sounds old school and fresh at the same time. The instrumental part in the middle is half guitar solo, then switches to keyboard solo. Jordan is that good. That solo, if you listen closely is Jordan throughout, not the anticipated duet of John and Jordan.
yeah i wasnt the biggest fan of the astonishing tbh
You should check out Haken! Maybe Pareidolia or anything of The Mountain really. Phenomenal record!
I can't believe he hasn't done Haken yet
He did 'The Endless Knot' on stream and I don't think he liked it. But that track is definitely one of their outliers. The dubstepy approach is not their status quo.
@@CO6883-o3c He would love some of the djenty moments on the last two records
Love this track! Mangini and Myung are in beast mode! Epic Petrucci solos.

Honestly if you want a much heavier sound from them, check out Honor Thy Father, one of their heaviest tracks.

Fun fact: Main riff is "UFO" in morse code.
The intro is FIRE! Use it in other videos!
Hey Drew, great video as always man, you should check out Pain of Salvation if you like the djentish guitars with catchy melodic and emotional vocals
19:19 that's not Mike Portnoy, he left the band in 2010 right after he finished the "12 step suite" that you already heard. The actual drummer is called "Mike Mangini", he has a lot to learn but he is getting there...

Everything John Petrucci does is very fucking hard to do lol
Listen to the song Aathma (Pt. I-IV) by Persefone, 20 min song. You should trust my taste, I know that sounds a bit arrogant but I don't care!

Drew, your volume on the music was way low. I had to max my volume, and your mike was over powering. Otherwise, Great.
I had actually tweaked it right before this video which obviously didn’t pay off. Thanks Michael, appreciate the feedback!
@@DrewFortune97 you bet buddy! Glad your back with DT again. There's so much more you haven't heard.
i would say dt is prog metal tbh
If you want some good prog metal I suggest checking out Queensryche.. Operation Mindcrime might be the greatest concept album ever created
You sound like connor mcgregor
Wasn’t really a fan of this track but to be fair their singles usually aren’t great compared to the rest of the album.
That second solo in the instrumental section was a keyboard solo. Really ruined the song for me.
Very underwhelming track. It's like they took parts from previous tracks and just slapped them together. I feel like I have heard every single riff and melody in this song before.
Nothing from DT remotely reminds me of Tool. 🤢
I disagree. They're the Tool of their own genre. They totally defined it. They love playing with time signatures. They're regarded as some of the best in the business.

Home by DT has a Tool feel. Two of my fav bands.
