The fact that Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano supplied the vocals for the soundtrack really showed that they were 100% all in for this project. I saw it a few nights ago and it's still lingering with me.
@TheMrMediocre I agree this is an amazing moving. I'd say this film actually transcends the idea of fighting depression as fighting depression tends to focus on only lessening the symptoms of depression and individual circumstances that could be contributing factors. This film looks at the framework of the American-British collective consciousness, the lingering ghost of puritanical, Protestant ways of thinking that tell us to hold what we really are, our animal selves, in contempt and to hide this part of ourselves from the world even if it leads to the decay of our mental wellbeing. Look at how all our cuss words relate back to the human body, or what comes out of them, or the act of joining our bodies together as all animals do.
I want to appreciate the fact that this film exists. Not only does it have a very heartfelt story, but it conveys a beautiful yet sad message about the lies that we tell ourselves and finding meaning and purpose in our lives. Life isn't always what we want it to be and most of the time is never the way; its unexpected and sometimes cruel, but don't reject such a beautiful life, find what makes you smile when times are bad. I'm really not the best person to give a message like this but I thought it was beautiful. :-)
The Cauze Of Wet Pantiez Cup size?? Why are you bringing that into the conversation? That just seems kind of rude. Also, it's "not", not "knot" lol You are also missing a couple words here and there in your sentences...So I'm not sure who you're calling stupid.
It initially got a lot of hate, but then ppl started to look into it and got the hang of it. Definitely underrated tho, but is that even a surprise? Most of the intellectually good, creative movies are underrated
It wasn’t until people really started to understand the message it was sending that it got more love. It was considered kind of ridiculous at first, which is fair, all things considered. But now it’s a lot easier to understand that it truly is a masterpiece and a funny one at that. I’ve always said that a good piece of art/film is one that you could look at a million different times and always find something new to understand. It’s a great movie with so many different ways to interpret the characters, story, and artistry… it is GENUINELY one of the best movies I’ve ever had the honor of critiquing, even if it isn’t a public critique.
You will think this movie is so confusing, but at the end of the movie, everything changes and you suddenly realize everything makes perfect sense. This move is amazing!
Dear Lakeshore Records, Thank you for sharing this gem!!! I went and saw this movie in the theater last night and I fell in love with the film and the soundtrack. Thank you so much for all the amazing work that your crew did to make this music and movie. I owe a debt of gratitude. It melted glaciers in my heart. I feel inspired to approach my own art differently and with more guts after seeing and hearing your project. Because I don't have the right words to express the depth of my gratitude for all your work ,....I will quote Carl Sagan , "For small creatures such as we the vastness is bearable only through love."
Thanks for the heartfelt comment! But, the song credit goes to Andy Hull and Robert McDowell of Manchester Orchestra (and vocals by co-stars Paul Dano and Daniel Radcliffe). Film credit goes to A24 studios.
I wish to see this movie in Mexico, if not, I will definitely buy this movie, because it seems amazing, and I'm hearing amazing reviews from my friends in United States.
And so, we see the true nature of art, it's true purpose. Cheers, my friend. May the world bless your future endeavors. Or at least not tear them to pieces.
You realize the movie was all symbolic and at the end the corpse turned out to have sentience after all since it was a metaphor for the unrepressed emotions of humanity.
The movie encapsulates several themes which are universal: Sadness (clinical depression), the need for friendship, love and most importantly, the need to believe in something. The ending is amazing. I'm cynical about movies, so I thought all of this was in his head, the whole story and that he was just suffering from delusions brought on as a coping mechanism to deal with his depression, but they fooled me. I would have never guessed that Swiss Army Man would end up being a hero.
My personal take is that it goes slightly deeper than that. It's a story about the duality of mind. On the one hand, you have the depressed, broken and suicidal Hank. On the opposite side of the coin, you have Manny, who represents all of the good in Hank. Hope, love, joy, fun, aspiration. Only, he's been dead so long Hank can't remember him. This is a story about Hank remembering that part of himself, which is in all of us, just as he was about to end his life. And the rest of the film is a metaphor for "reconnecting" with that long-dead part of himself. I'm sure anyone who has suffered depression or anxiety, where it feels like there's a part of your brain separate to you, can relate to this interpretation. But I could just be crazy.
I think you have a point. That's a good analogy. I'm a graduate student in a Psychology program, so I appreciate your insight on this. Tupac would also approve. "Maybe I was just a lost soul trapped in time, living in-between life and the craps were blind. Even though we had hopes for dreams that never came, yet still we all feel pain..."

Fortunately or unfortunately I have watched thousands if not tens of thousands of movies over a 36 year life span from all genres, languages and countries... Well if you have a phone and an aux cord you can download it by copying the link in you tube but it has to be on a browser, and you open another tab called youtube to mp3 converter. It works best on Android but you paste the link in the box then download it. It's easier for Android because there is a downloads app that shows ALL your downloads. It might be in iTunes or something for iOS. Hope I helped because this movie and the soundtrack is AMAZING. :)
This is easily my favorite song of the lifetime. The lyrics are silly yet you can feel the soul and energy in each second. It’s the weirdest, greatest damn thing!!! 😮
This movie spoke to me. I had to share it with my wife. Mistake. But after 3 months, she does finally admit that the soundtrack is awesome... But she still doesn't "get" the movie. She thinks it is about a guy playing with a dead dude. No. Well, maybe, but not in my mind.
Andy Hull and Robert McDowell did such a phenomenal job on this score and single. I really hope someday I get a chance to work with them. This score is liberating, cheerful, beautiful, and astounding.
This is a late comment for an old (yet glorifying audacious song) I recently watched the movie last night, and I found it really captivating for a low-budget film about humanity and life. Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano are both beautifully articulate in this film, playing our two main characters, and this film is crafted very meticulously. Definitely a recommendation. Btw, this song is also the reason why I came to this film also, Dano and Radcliffe's vocals are astoundingly gorgeous, 1:08 is always the part that makes me look back to all the wonderful memories.
