    I have a question, I dont understand this and there might be a reason, so my question is whi finger 3 goes on D and not finger 2? Finger 2 is not used for a reason? I am a beginner and trying to learn this tune I would feel more comfortable with finger 2 on D and 1 on A . Thank you.

    This is a fantastic lesson! Once I get a little more advanced (absolute beginner right now), I'll definitely buy the whole lesson. Thanks for the pep talk at the end.

    Thank you so much! I am using a 22 string folk harp from Backyard Music, Dave in Willimantic. He told me that you and your sister visited him. I had already found you on you tube and was watching you before I bought my harp three weeks ago. This is a tough song. Harder than rue and thyme. I played piano as a child so those years of lessons are really helping. You are awesome!!

      Hi Susan. Yes, Dave is amazing! It was wonderful visiting him and his workshop. If you’re just starting out with harp, I would recommend starting with a simple piece so you can learn without feeling stressed, and learn good harp skills / technique / habits while you go (if it’s too complicated, you end up only focusing on the notes, and the technique goes out the window). I would recommend starting with my free course “How to Play the Harp - start here”, which you can find at www.learningtheharp.com. If you’ve already done that, you can learn an early beginner piece such as “Mahogany Moon” or “After the Rain”. They are very satisfying to play, but not stressful to learn when you’re starting out 😄

    This was really fun! I feel like I've become a bit lazy with my placing and my technique in general so this was really helpful. Do you have any lessons for those who aren't beginners but want to improve technique? thanks 😀

    This is really lovely. I'm a total beginner, just have a loaner 22-string harp here to try out. Would I be able to play this song on this small of a harp?

  • @arabellamayer5209
    @arabellamayer5209 3 роки тому +2

    Hi. Can I please ask you a question? When you do the fingering do your fingers have to rest in place on the actual strings, or is it professionally ok to just hover your fingers over them? As I find some finger stretches a bit far

    I would love to learn this, but found it too fast. I was lost quickly with the first finger placements. Replaying didn't help. Maybe tomorrow...

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Рік тому

      Hi Bonnie! I’m so glad you want to learn this song, here are two thoughts which might help 🤗 Did you know you can slow down a UA-cam video? Click the little cog and then select “playback speed” and you can make it slower. Another consideration: depending on how long you’ve been playing for, it might be that the song is a little too advanced for you right now? Late-beginner is actually level 3 in my courses, so perhaps you could first try some early-beginner or mid-beginner pieces like Mahogany Moon or Greensleeves? 😊

    So lovely, thank you, it will be great to learn this one before trying the more difficult version... Or maybe adapting it to an easy accompaniment for singing, what do you think about it?

  • @CzechJamie

    Hey, I wanted to give this a try this morning. but, did not catch what key it is in. I see some levers used. Did I just miss that part? I did go back and still didn't find it. 🥰

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  Рік тому +1

      It’s in the key of C - my harp is tuned in the key of E flat which is why there are levers engaged 😊👍🏻 Have fun with it!!

    What kind of harf are you using in this video? Is it a celtic harf

    • @LearningtheHarp
      @LearningtheHarp  3 роки тому +1

      My harp in this video is an Ogden by Lyon & Healy. It is a lever harp, which some people also call a Celtic harp. But I wouldn’t call this one a Celtic harp because it is made by a classical harp company to feel more like a pedal harp. It has high tension strings and pedal harp spacing. So I would say this is a classical lever harp. Celtic harps tend to have lower tension strings and a brighter sound. They feel very different to play compared to my harp.
