It'd be interesting to see if you can do a blind/double-blind test to see if people actually can tell a significant difference (maybe use the same mouse on the average PC?) between the two machines, or if it's some sort of placebo effect.
Weight is a huge difference. look at any other "professional sport" where equipment comes into play, light bows compound bows and arrows of carbon for archery, Carbon lightweight car parts for racing, For accuracy shooting in rifle marksmanship, lighter parts are a massive plus. The same thing can be attributed to mouse movements and muscle memory in your arm and shoulder. It may be micro amounts, but consider this, 100 tiny movements with 150gram mouse vs 100 tiny movements or flicks/corrections whatever you want to call them with a 50 gram mouse... Think about the total amount of force and "work" needed to move each. clearly the lighter mouse has an advantage. You must also consider the force needed to initially move the mouse, to break that friction and get it to move, the mouse feet is a big part, but also the weight. Now, the weight/Force/work needed to Stop that same mouse regardless of weight, when you have it in a near full force swing across the mousepad, Again the lightest mouse has the clear advantage. Might it be nano seconds, and micro amounts of force, sure. It all adds up over a 12 hour gaming session. and yes, if someone put a G Pro X with a weight put in it and one that was my normal mouse with a blindfold and all that Id instantly be able to tell you what one is heavier. Down to within a couple grams id wager before id have trouble deciding.
Next they've got a microcenter sponsorship, set up a basic home/work pc (5ish year vintage CPU, onboard graphics or a basic GPU and moderate ram) Vs flashy rgb gamer rig with modern kit and have some people compare a few games, browser tabs, streaming etc. but hide the cables and see if average customers can tell a big performance difference , maybe say it's the expensive pc when it's really the cheap and vice versa to see what kinda comments they make. Could also compare screens using a cardboard box to hide the bezel and main body with a cutout for the screen.
I used to game on an 800x600 CRT monitor with a rubber ball mouse and semi-broken plastic keyboard harvested from my mom's office and I still managed to make it on the leaderboard of the CS1.6 servers I was playing on. Now that I'm older and have some income to buy higher end parts I'm terrible at games since I have no time to play them!
Exactly. People say older gamers are not as proficient but I've basically still got all the time in the world to game at 40+yrs (long time away from the workplace) and still regularly trounce these kids! My biggest issue is dealing with all the teenage bullshit on Comms xD
@@Kholaslittlespot1 I think such people would do well to remember the nightmare that higher end CRTs were to get to behave properly. Never had a "convergence" problem on an LCD!
This is me. I used to slay people on my dad's old CRT in CS. Now I have a pretty nice gaming setup, but no time to play & therefore suck at games. Let's hope my son will someday enjoy video games as much as I do, so I have an excuse to play games again.
I think the newer Wooting keyboard model used here actually uses the new Hall Effect sensors instead of the old flaretech optical sensors. (HE edition). Especially because the older flaretech models didn't support 0.1 mm actuation distance (iirc smallest was 0.4 mm on the older models)
Yes, the 60HE (the only option out there) already states this in its name HE = hall effect. Additional Source: I own a wooting two with the flaretech switches and a 60HE
Fun fact: that 26ms delay between button press and screen response in the "average" PC is right around the conductance delay between your motor cortex and the FDI which is the abductor muscle of the index finger that pressed the button.
@@Mangotunde Meaning it takes about as long for you to start clicking after you've sent the command to click from your brain to your finger as it takes the system to display the results of that click after the button itself is clicked.
@wolf2595 oh wow, that's really interesting. does that mean there's not rlly any point going faster? Since currently at the 26ms delay it seems, to the human brain, that's its basically instant.
@@grex2595 I still don’t understand how that makes a difference and latency improvements become “pointless.” The total latency then would be 52ms because you have to add the system latency on top of your human reaction time. It’s logical fallacy to think that because human reaction time is slower than the tech itself that improving the tech is pointless.
@@heatnup I didn't really make any of the claims you seem to be arguing with me about. I was just explaining the literal meaning of what was said. You do bring up a good point, however. You can, theoretically, reach a point where the total system latency is less than the average variance in the latency of your own body and mind. At that point, you literally could not improve now matter how much you reduce latency.
5:57 Note on the wooting keyboard: it's not OPTICAL, it's a hall effect sensor. It's a subtle difference, but it's an important one. An optical keyboard can't as easily distinguished distance as a hall effect sensor can. Also, the keyboard is maybe the only thing I can recommend out of this set at about 6 minutes in and only for the practical purpose of the fact that in theory those key switches will never wear out as long as you replace the springs when they start to degrade, you can continue using that keyboard clear into the next millennium. Also, I really like the way they handled control software so there's no actual download to worry about. It's a web app and everything is stored on the keyboard
@@BHBalast yeah, it's actually pretty cool if you choose to download the app and install it. It's just an electron app. So any chromium-based browser will allow you to modify your keyboard settings just like it was installed on the device. And of course all of the settings are saved on the keyboard, which is again part of the reason why it's on my recommendation list because there's no control software that you actually have to install and you don't have to keep anything running
Yeah Razer can take a page from them. Their software is god awful and the supposed in-mouse memory rarely works, Logitech is almost as bad as well. The memory is good but getting the software to let you store it is a nightmare.
doubt it. maybe a confidence factor, might be more psychological. 10ms difference times is not something you are going to be able to notice lets not lie
@@amackzie Need to go watch the previous video they mention here. Used Shroud and other Pro level gamers as well as some casual gamers and yes, 10ms is noticeable IF you already have minimal latency on everything... Often youll see a streamer complain of lag, and look to his ping to see its only 20 higher then normal.. with that normal being 20-30ping.. but no.. We cant notice it lol.
@@crisnmaryfam7344I can absolutely feel the difference between 20 and 40 ping on apex. Maybe that’s just cuz apex servers are poop and 40 ( a totally normal ping) feels worse than 40 on other games. Combined I would probably feel the difference here. Especially the jump to 390 from my 144. And the wooting is a huge difference in certain games like apex where some movement tech can only be actuated on a 3fps window and at 144hz+ that’s difficult to do. People have said the wooting, since it’s like a hair trigger, makes that frametime easier to hit.
I think this would have been a great opportunity to have an esports gamer in studio to conduct the test along with the average gamer. I suspect that the average professional gamer would have some sort of benefit from the decreased latency and as for your average gamer it would make no difference.
@@inpusket that's not a reputable test. The professional has potentially years of stats they can work off of to then gauge if there are any changes. Either way as much as I love their videos any way would have been a better test than the way they did it. The problem with doing aim lab back and forth like that (as someone who used to work for them) is you WILL do better every consecutive round. That's what it's designed to do. So you'd probably have to keep going back and forth until you kept getting better on one system, and stopped getting better on the other. Or do 10min of warmup first on the avg system til you level out (like a stress test), and then go to the better system and see how much better you do. But even then it would still take some time for your body to adapt to the new abilities. But you can see if you plateau higher.
5:49 Correction. It's not an optical switch, it's a Hall Effect switch EDIT: 9:29 Same, not optical. Actuation point (and release) is based on the distance from the magnet in the switch to the sensor in the PCB
@@Ryuseigan It had a special stem which would occlude a different percentage of the light depending on position. It did have adjustable actuation, but not full range like the hall effect switches.

I think you all, and the other people whove suggested this, are completely missing a huge problem with this idea... You kinda have to see to play the game -.- /jk but not rly lol
Warning on the 8khz mouse: they will not actually work at 8khz... They cause most games to drop frames unless you drop them down to 1khz, negating the feature. I have reached out to Razer and they pointed me to a FAQ in the mouse that states, specifically "Some games may need to be set to 1khz" - what they mean to say is "Most AAA games don't support 8khz polling properly"
@@re4796 the last time I tried it I couldn't play pubg with 8 kHz. It is still the same doesn't work properly. War Thunder doesn't work either, it has other ways of failing but it will not work like you would like to.
I have the razer viper 8kHz, can confirm that you are right, most games are a stuttery mess when it's set to 8k, like pubg and League. But the one game I DO care about the latency, which is valorant, has a setting called "Raw Input Buffer (Experimental)" with which the game runs fine. It is the only game in which 8k works, by toggling this setting.
The most fun I ever had was running Black Squad on an old 4th Gen i5 and a 1050. Used the cheapest logitech wireless K&M and it was so much fun. The more I get into hardware now, the less fulfilled I feel. Mechanical keyboards, high DPI mice, high refresh rate. It all just seems like stuff to make me seem like I'm having more fun than I am. For the record, I started gaming on a Pentium III playing Counter Strike with a ball mouse. I'm on about more recently when I got back into gaming as an adult.
Part of this is the overhyped-ness of the marketing behind it all. You get your hopes up its going to be "Life Changing" and that much different, but in reality it is like buying top end sports equipment for an amateur, will it help? Maybe, but its designed for someone Already at the top level. Buying the best marksmen rifle and scope, and every other part for it, wont suddenly make you a world record sharpshooter...will it help your accuracy though? Absolutely. As if these tests have any sort of validity. You'd have to do actual long term studies comparing both setups to have anything of value. Most people will perform better with the setup they're used to, even if it's technically "worse". Unless you actually have people track their performance over weeks, if not months, with the new setup it's not gonna tell us much. Hell, even if they performed better, what's proving that it's the setup and not them just having a really good day? These videos are meant for entertainment, the most they could ever prove is that we've definitely reached a point of diminishing returns for the average user.
So happy about the airflow pattern optimisation, I’ve been considering similar fan setups for so long, and been annoyed that no reviewers ever seem to consider unorthodox airflow paths like so.
This is the kind of content I subscribe for, things that are so balls to the walls that it’s never practical, but you always wanted to know what’s like. Kind of similar to cranking the config on a laptop
Actually, on the Wooting, your actuation point can be whenever you begin pressing the key down. So when you've pressed the key fully down, let it go and when it's halfway done unpressing press it down again it will register a second time. This feature is rapid trigger and it's the feature that caused the osu! community to lose their minds for a while.

I think the testing could be better... two suggestions: 1) test with professional gamers who have the reflexes to take advantage of the gear and 2) give the test subjects a chance to acclimate to (practice on) the "try hard system."
And the pros have had hours and hours and hours of practice and the muscle memory that goes with it, so it would reveal nothing. The average person would get better with those same hours of practice. Results would not be any different.

Like how they tested monitor refresh rate, back in the day. They had a mix of LTT staff and pro gamer. For this point though a pros besides the point. Of course, scientifically speaking they aren't going to get a represetatative sample of even 1000 gamers, so technically the one of is more anecdotal than statistically significant. Video cards are more expensive than they've ever been. Why people care so much about winning and trivial stuff is beyond me though, they're...games, they're meant to be fun. I couldn't imagine ever remotely comparing winning a video game to anything in the real world, including sports.

11:14 that is NOT a joke warning, by the way. Attempting to swallow any sort of powdery or granuly substances completely dry like that can, if you start coughing and retching, cause permanent damage to your throat and/or airways. If you absolutely do want to try, say, the cinnamon spoon challenge from ages ago, or something similar instead, the best way to go about it is to; hold your breath from the moment you put the spoon in your mouth, start working on producing saliva to wetten whatever you are attempting to swallow - this is where the difficulty comes into play, as things like cinnamon or powdery stuff will work very well against saliva production, and many start caughing because they underestimated the time it would take to sufficiently wetten the stuff and started taking involuntary breaths. Once you feel that your saliva has sufficiently wetten it - it should feel clumpy, - you can attempt to swallow it. If you absolutely do need to breath before swallowing, attempt to do this by closing the back of your throat while breating in and out through your nose alone, do not try to breath through your mouth, as this is what will be most dangerous.
Keyboard advice: if you're used to a normal mechanical key's press it's going to be weird using switches that activate with so much less movement - I found the way I used to rest my hand on the keys when not typing/moving in-game would cause my k100 to register a keypress (I had made the switch from cherry reds to the k100's opx switches). It took some getting used to, but now I prefer the quick input. For anyone who wants 8k polling rate and optical-mechanical switches, but also like full-sized keyboards; the Corsair K100 has both of those feature (it uses the corsair opx optical/mechanical switches and, according to corsair specs, is capable of "Up to 8,000Hz with AXON" - there may be cheaper options, idk; I got mine from microcenter a few years ago before hipsters made 65%'s popular - I think it was right around when corsair released their 65% kb (or maybe it was Razer w/ their 60%?). Other than that, there wasn't a 60-75% on the market for a comparable price)
And remember, to keep this system clean, you can't use regular compressed air found usually on an end cap display in best buy, make sure you go into the computer section and get a can of "gaming" compressed air. It's gotta be better. It's more expensive and has the word "gaming" right there on the can.
Not relevant, but I once played a Facebook game (Pirates or something by Plarium) which was pay to play. The people who dominated the game were the people who got out their credit card and purchased all the good boats and pirates. Well I worked out if you sent an attack but quickly double clicked as you sent it, then cancelled your attack immediately, suddenly you had twice the amount of boats and pirates you had before launching the attack. It only took about 5 minutes before you had the strongest force by far and were destroying everything the people with massive credit cards had. I still have the strongest attack rating in that game until this day, I also did it in another game by Plarium, I think it was called Sparta. I got banned from those games pretty quickly, but not before I ruined the days for a few of the pay to play heros, my inbox was flooded pretty quickly by people asking how I did it. Plarium fixed the bug within 24 hours, but the damage I did was vast and extensive. Fun times .

14:01 - This is a very true point. It's what causes those weird deaths where you still take damage AFTER breaking line of sight. Beat by someone with better reaction times than you AND they have a monster PC setup. So in some sense frames do win games, but you still need to be good at the game to begin with.
No taking damage after breaking line of sight is network lag and game state synchronization. But for the rest.. Yes and is also something that will happen a few times in the life of a competitive player ("same time shots": a few ms timespan shots). So I guess the money is still better spent on anything else. Better internet provider or even performance enhancing drugs to lower the human reaction time, which make the 95% of the latency.
Well considering human reaction times are orders of magnitude longer than the difference between setups. And the network lag is order of magnitude longer as well. Its safe to say that there is 0 impact on gaming. If you only care about the competitive edge, your setup is far less important than things like diet, focus, exercise etc. You are better off investing time and money into a good diet, meditation and mental wellbeing, and a personal trainer. All of those things will improve your reaction times and your gaming. However if you want to run drop dead gorgeous games and not sacrifice frames, then you might want to invest in a beefy setup. But you will be beaten by 13 year olds playing on a school desktop

It makes me really happy to see options like sennheiser hd800s, re20, wooting and even the mouse m1k which all are my end game goal here, not that it is a surprise but its nice to see that people actually did put some research and probably are just as into this stuff as i am
Yeah, I was thinking they'd go for a Logitech or Razer "gaming" headset. Maybe a Sennheiser PC38x, but to actually go for the HD800 S is noice. The CPU retention bracket, even the chair (Aeron for me personally). If I ever make a modern list of ultimate PC parts, this is extremely close to it.
@Transistor Jump Not necessarily "better" but it is the planar counterpart to what the HD800/800S is capable of. I think it just presents the sound differently than what the HD800S can. A good example of this is the soundstaging. HD800/S is focused on extreme width while the Arya (and other egg-shaped Hifiman headphones) focus on verticality, scale, and "grandness". Depending on what type of presentation you prefer, both are exceptional in what they do best.

that recalls how competitive cycling once decided that hardware must fall within certain specs to not give unfair advantage - like wheel sizes or recumbent bikes 😁

Invested in a razer controller for my 360 back in the day because it had six extra mappable buttons, my brain can't use a normal controller anymore. The newest one, the Chroma V2 is so damn comfortable and they use tactile switches for all the buttons so they 'click' like a mouse press (sound and all)
13:29 Would be interesting these bar graphs split up to show how much of the total was taken up by which component. I know some of them would be hard/ almost impossible to quantify accurately but some would not. At the very least it would be possible to show mouse and keyboard input to PC latency and GPU to display latency
Analog keyboards are super cool, even just for a "controller-like" movement system while still using mouse and keyboard. Take competitive shooters out of the equation; even just playing a single player game where you can subtly press a little to walk instead of run can be such an experience booster.
@@OwenDavies83 The issue is something called "rapid trigger" basically it allows for multiple key inputs within the same stroke. ANY upwards movement counts as a release, and ANY downwards movement counts as a press. In rhythm games, or games with frame perfect key inputs, this has a massive impact on accuracy and repeatability. In osu! particularly, some players are able to tap up to 30% faster with this keyboard, as well as avoiding a lot of issues that can cause inconsistencies with other keyboards. If you accidentally half-press a key on any other keyboard, you miss a note, but with the wooting it would still count as normal. I don't think these are "issues" just advantages, but it's an advantage you can only get with an expensive purchase.

The Wooting HE is not an “Optical Keyboard” it uses “Hall Effect”, which is what HE stands for. It’s a magnet and a sensor that detects the potential difference across an electrical conductor when the magnet is applied in a perpendicular direction to the flow of the switch current.
YES! a more compréhensive way to relativize human related performance and hardware.. you should make the test on a larger numbers of players (like the one you did with the screens)
Dude, tryhard systems like the one in the video only matters for people who reached pro levels of performance. The average joe doesnt need this. Its just waste of money if you think you will win more having a system like that.
The answer to this question is simple, it does nothing. Speed runners using 3-4 decade old original hardware have been competing with modern gaming setups on the leader boards and time and time again their shows no significant advantage between the two, if pooling rates, mouse weight, and travel times were relevant then speed runners would be raving about how they improved their times with new hardware and that world record typists got more words per minute on the latest keyboard.
The whole video idea would be blown up. It is obvious for any person that is educated in this, that if two gamers of equal skill were given this scenario, the one who had the worse system, would definately be handicapped!

Hey! Great video! As a suggestion, it would be really cool to see like a part 2 of this video where real competitive gamers try out the Tryhard PC. It would be cool to see, especially if you are able to find gamers that use more "average" systems for competitive shooter games, and aren't able to experience this level of responsiveness in games.
I think a CS:go pro would demonstrate and feel the difference between these two pcs much better. Also the shape of the mouse is definitely a much bigger factor in your performance if you are not used to it.
While there could be some difference between the 2 systems, I think for the pros the setup which was more close to their personal peripherals would perform better, like the shape of the mouse, mousemat material, maybe even the switches in the keyboard.. few milliseconds here and there wouldnt be the difference maker.
The Wooting 60HE does NOT have an optical switch like some razor keyboards, the Wooting 60HE has magnetic Lekker switches (from Gateron). This is why actuation can be adjusted via software (b/c they are magnets); this is impossible for optical switches. Hopefully this error can be corrected in the video, Thanks! :) -Nima

It'd be interesting to see if you can do a blind/double-blind test to see if people actually can tell a significant difference (maybe use the same mouse on the average PC?) between the two machines, or if it's some sort of placebo effect.
Yeah, the mouse does make a big difference, the weight and the shape. Definitely should keep that the same in both machines.
Please get the most skilled gamers in the company too, and on the games they play. I can only tell easily when I play the one game I'm really good at.

@@heatnup I didn't really make any of the claims you seem to be arguing with me about. I was just explaining the literal meaning of what was said. You do bring up a good point, however.
Woah, never thought about it, web interface is fantastic idea for a non budget gear!
It just depends on implementation, optical switch can work the same.
It's not even a subtle difference, the working principle is completely different.
Yeah Razer can take a page from them. Their software is god awful and the supposed in-mouse memory rarely works, Logitech is almost as bad as well. The memory is good but getting the software to let you store it is a nightmare.

@@amackzie 10 ms will make a slight difference. Many pro esports players have a latency from eye to finger under 200ms.

14:01 - This is a very true point. It's what causes those weird deaths where you still take damage AFTER breaking line of sight. network desync is what causes the line-of-sight break then death.
No that’s netcode. Bad ping players sometimes get lag compensation and will be immune to damage. Or their movements sent in larger packets on a delay.

You can bind some keys as media keys. Perhaps through fn layer if preferred.

It makes me really happy to see options like sennheiser hd800s, re20, wooting and even the mouse m1k which all are my end game goal here, not that it is a surprise but its nice to see that people actually did put some research and probably are just as into this stuff as i am
they even included a sweaty ass router
he wore the 800s backwards though
I do have an HD800 and man, what a headphone. Definitely a keeper if you do get one.
6:56 To pinpoint the footsteps of your enemies with ease, it's generally recommended to not wear your HD800S backwards.

that recalls how competitive cycling once decided that hardware must fall within certain specs to not give unfair advantage - like wheel sizes or recumbent bikes 😁
Interesting video
and I have to say, really love your voice, so pleasing to listen to you
I got a 3 button foot pedal several years ago and using it to crouch open inventory and run in games and taking them off the keyboard and mouse has been amazing. Fingers have much less to do.
Invested in a razer controller for my 360 back in the day because it had six extra mappable buttons, my brain can't use a normal controller anymore. The newest one, the Chroma V2 is so damn comfortable and they use tactile switches for all the buttons so they 'click' like a mouse press (sound and all)
Piano players be like: "Wait, so you're not using pedals normally?"
Average emacs user gets into gaming
13:29 Would be interesting these bar graphs split up to show how much of the total was taken up by which component.
I know some of them would be hard/ almost impossible to quantify accurately but some would not. At the very least it would be possible to show mouse and keyboard input to PC latency and GPU to display latency
This video needs a remake every two years
10:48 bro overclocked linus
The idea of a keyboard like that sounds actually insanely interesting ...
Because it is, it's caused controversy in certain gaming communities because of the advantages it gives you over a normal keyboard.
Analog keyboards are super cool, even just for a "controller-like" movement system while still using mouse and keyboard.
Take competitive shooters out of the equation; even just playing a single player game where you can subtly press a little to walk instead of run can be such an experience booster.
@@Nicholas_Lim I don't see an issue. The switch from ball mice to optical was a bigger difference.
@@faranocks Interesting. Wouldn't capacitive touch devices have a similar advantage as well tho? Or at very well calibrated one.

@@verafeiyd New? I've had the same Fractal case for over a decade.
It would be interesting to see if the asynchronous reprojection idea you featured recently could show differences with those setups.
I kinda want to see a streamer/youtuber that's really good at games to try both setups and see if there's a notable difference.
The whole video idea would be blown up. It is obvious for any person that is educated in this, that if two gamers of equal skill were given this scenario, the one who had the worse system, would definately be handicapped!
the best part of linus tech tips is how linus embraces the ability to be funny and have his team troll and roast him. this is entertainment gold.
PS/2 can have lower latency because it polls the computer, instead of the computer polling it.
Yes, but Ben Eater has shown, that ps2 needs more time to transport the informatiom than usb 2.0. With newer usb standards it gets more complicated.

Omg that dry scoop has got me rolling I can’t breathe 😂😂😂
I think a CS:go pro would demonstrate and feel the difference between these two pcs much better. Also the shape of the mouse is definitely a much bigger factor in your performance if you are not used to it.
While there could be some difference between the 2 systems, I think for the pros the setup which was more close to their personal peripherals would perform better, like the shape of the mouse, mousemat material, maybe even the switches in the keyboard.. few milliseconds here and there wouldnt be the difference maker.
These kinds of diminishing returns matter for those that are high skilled esports players, but we've always known that to be true.
Nootropics had adverse event of drowsiness so well done. ;)

Just nitpicking but the wooting has a faster response option called "Tachyon" mode, also it was said it is optical but it actually uses hall effect sensors.
Edit: I had though I had heard that Tachyon increase polling rat but it is still 1khz
I thought tachyon mode was 1k polling rate
It's not 8khz polling? Where did you get this pure misinformation from? It's still 1khz, but the scan time goes to 1ms at all times. The latency is reduced. The polling rate isn't increased.
The Skypad 2.0 is literally the best mousepad I've ever used and it last an eternity, so yeah that one's definitely a recommendation(allthough very difficult to use, when you are used to it it is amazing)

@@macberg5806 shidenkai is discontinued. also artisan rly doesn't last that long, my hien has a ton of dead spots after 2 years. artisan themselves recommend u swap pads every few months. but they are going to be coming out with a new series where the surface is removable so u just buy a base and then replace the surface without having to buy a new pad. still won't be as cost effective over time as a skypad but it's an improvement.
