I am a great believer in making do with what you have, my mother brought me up like that. I do my grocery shopping once a month.
I am 76, live alone, and I use up whatever I have in the fridge, freezer, and pantry. I put ingredients together to make a tasty meal. I cook for three: for myself, fridge and freezer. That way, I always have enough food ready for me to heat and eat.
I believe, people just do too much shopping, waste food and don’t know how to make good use of what they buy. They buy the items they still have. This is a life skill that make use of what you have and invent different ways to use up various foods.

You are speaking my language! I love the challenge of using everything in my fridge. It’s a fun creative way to cook!

@ my children think, I don’t keep food in the house, I need to eat ‘proper’ food! I eat healthy, fresh and nourishing food, though not always what one expects. I like it that way, as at times, I feel proud of myself to rustle tasty food from just 2-3 ingredients.

Hi, love you and your videos. Would be interested in knowing how many people still eat lunch. Besides the animals, we do the vegan thing(for 7 years now) for health reasons. In my research I've heard that over eating is not good. So we juice or do a smoothie every morning. About 11:30 we have a coffee with mushroom powder and Ashwaganda and something like a date nut loaf or pumpkin muffins that I bake. Then dinner is around 4- 4: 30 .We have a big salad with veggies, beans or roasted sweet potatoe or a big tray of roasted veggies drizzled with a vegan Queso sauce or a spicy sweet and sour sauce over rice. We are in our 70's We do the gym 3 times a week and have no trouble keeping our ideal weight, no matter how much we eat. Always look for new ideas for dinner...thanks!

Yum! The Berry overnight oats looked great! For small tools in the kitchen- my Zyliss garlic press and Salad spinner. For larger things- my blender for making smoothies and also my crock pot... love it for soups and stews. I have not gotten an insta-pot yet, I am afraid I don't have room for another thing and I really like my crock pot..

@@sheilam283 we DO love our kitchen toys, right?!? Zyliss is such a great company. They make excellent tools that I always know I can rely on. I love my instant pot but if you’re patient, a slow cooker works just fine. Crockpots can do so much more than we realize. For example you can bake potatoes in it!!!! Thx for stopping by and chatting!!!

OMG Ellen!!! This looks absolutely delicious and is so inspiring! I've been wanting to do Collard wraps and haven't been able to find any nice big ones here right now😭😭Lol...is that even a word! I love that, looking at creating art with our food, so lovely, sister, and so authentic!!!💕🥰

One step that really helps with collard wraps is dipping them in boiling water for like a second to soften them. I forgot to do that this time.

@@starchyshauna This time I didn’t. And they were fine w/o cooking. But I don’t think it would hurt to dip them in either hot water or boiling water for a millisecond to soften them up.

I have a grapevine in my backyard. It doesn't really produce much grapes. But my rabbit loves the grape leaves. But i've been tempted to make stuffed grape leaves, but I haven't bitten the bullet yet.Maybe this next spring, when I get some fresh ones, I'll have to do it.

@@ThePynnFoolLife That’s a great idea! Funny you should mention grape leaves, I’ve begun making pickles and have been on the lookout for grape leaves as it was recommended to use them in the jar with the cukes and pickling spices.

@@nancytierney9071 thank you so much for stopping by and commenting. How recently have you started adding chickpeas or beans to your diet? Sometimes if you’re new to adding beans, it can take a while for your intestines to get used to them. Also, I find that my stomach is much happier when I cook the beans from scratch than when I use canned beans. I usually soak them overnight and when I cook them in my instant pot pressure cooker, I add a piece of kombu , which is a Japanese kind of seaweed. It is well known for reducing the gassy effect of beans.
