Old FiiO E10K had USB in, coax out. FiiO K3 have USB in, coax and optical out. BTW I'm using D10(analog out to FiiO K5 amp) any reason to upgrade to D10s ?

I just upgraded from the Fiio E10k as my DAC to this DAC and WOW it made such a difference im shocked how clear music sounds now. Highly recommend the D10S as a DAC and then the JDS Labs atom as the amp its a nice combo!
Hi, is it a more neutral type of dac? I hope it is, I don't really favor bass boost.

@@MasterMark5 Thanks! This will be a great pairing for tube amps, since tube amp is already warm as it is, I don't want to overdo it with the sound signature especially the bass from the dac.
@@MasterMark5 oh yeah how about the brightness? is the treble sharp? I mean that feeling when the highs pierce your ears.
@@kato2395 Didn't really notice a change in the highs sibilance-wise except for it was cleaner/clearer and more defined
The original D10 is also the heart of my system. DAC out into my Magni 3. Optical out into my NAD D 3020. Coaxial out into my DAC for my other stereo amp. I find long coaxial runs to be better than long optical runs. I don't know what I'd do without this device, I love it so much.
Not exactly what you were asking for, but mini dsp makes a box that accepts optical, coax, or AES and outputs optical, coax, and AES all at the same time. It also dirac lives the signal.

I use the topping D10S with the topping L30 to listen to my Sennheiser HD600 and Superlux HD662 . . . the sound quality is outstanding compared to my previous Khadas Tone Board dac and Focusrite Solo 3rd gen, i highly recommend to buy this dac it's a really good value for the money
D10s is really like the successor of the Khadas Tone board imo.
Does it actually measure better than the ktb? Because i thought that measured really well...

I have one and love it much. At $20 (under $50), it is the best. However, in some case as lossless music, it cant give me detail sound, because it run at 16 bit at 48khz. I got one smsl m100 last week, it run at 32bit 192khz instead of 768 as avertising.
I like to change gear every now and then, just for kicks, especially when it's cheaper stuff. But still, I haven't found ANYTHING that I would even CONSIDER for replacing this lil baby. Fundamental. And Zeos, if by any chance you do see this comment, do you still use it?
There are 2 other balanced DACs with SPIDIF outputs - Soncoz LA-QXD1 and SGD1
I have mine paired up with a smsl 888 and it sounds bloody phenomenal
Hey Z. I am interested in using this with the KEF L50 Wireless II. I know you have only reviewed the LS 50 but would like your opinion.
The wife is not going for the space taken and the cost of being an actual audio file. Ya, she makes more than me lol.
I think the KEF LS 50 Wireless/REL HT sub is my only way to go for anything decent that is small and way less than what I wanted to spend on my set up.

Just so you know. My old Monoprice HDX-401TA is a HDMI splitter with 24/192 COAX *and* optical out.
So you don't even need an USB to coax thing for optical output, with that. 1080p only but I guess Monoprice makes better ones (4K etc) since then.

hi sir, will the topping work in my ipad and connect it in my cambridge axr100?
Matrix X-SPDIF 2 does this - line out but adds I2S and AES/EBU so you can get native DSD instead of DoP, but then again its 379 USD so it's not in the same league as this D10s. Then again when you are on the I2S/AES level of hardware you can afford it.
I have both, E30, first d10 and d10S. And i like D10S more.
why do you prefer D10S over the original D10 does it produce better sound?
@@krutorkruty1174 I prefer d10s over e30. Difference between first d10 and d10s is difficult to hear. But D10s has better sinad for the same price, and E30's price.

Nice review, but missing is any mention of the difference from the original D10 and why we would want the D10s instead of the D10. What is the difference? D10 has the same outputs! What did they change? If you said it and I missed it, I blame it on your distracting wallpaper! :)

I do wonder what sounds better purely as a dac, the d10s or the e30, considering they use different chips.
@Azaikyousuke I ended up buying the e30 because it had some extra functionality I could make use off. Other than that, you'd be fine with either. From the research I did, both are fairly transparent and similarly performing DACs. The difference in sound are out of our hearing range so I'd say get which of the two suits your needs more or if you only want to use it off USB, then whichever is cheaper I guess.

I compared recently Aune X8 (with BB op-amp) with Topping D10 (not "s") and in terms of sound I could hardly hear any difference... My headphone amp is Aune X7S, my headphones Audeze LCD-2C. I even got 48 hours of "burning" X8, just in case if anyone wanted to point out the need of this "crucial" treatment... Seriously, I hoped to get on the higher level of sound quality buying X8 and found no reason to pay 300$ for new device. Wondering now how much should I spend to get dac that only in terms of sound (not other features) will make a significant progress?
Welcome to "audiophile" world. You don't need to spend much to find something that you'll like a lot.

The Topping D10s doesn't have a headphone output. The FiiO K3 does. They are very different types of units.

was going to get a Modi3 but it doesnt work on windows 7 and 8.1, only w10/11. the D10S has drivers for windows 7 and upwards so thats my w7/8.1 laptops and workstation sorted 😃

Usb is DC input. 5 Volts DC. That's why you need the brick for your phone charger.

Those off-the-shelf chips hardly cost anything. It's all about how it's implemented, which is especially crucial with Sabre DACs. It's super easy to build a DAC that measures impressively well using these off-the-shelf chips, but it hardly says anything at all about how good it will sound.
@@JDS_im thats true yeah..one ess9038q2m is 15dollars for us..but probably like 5 dollars for topping..but still...100dollars for a device like that is a bargain
@@renatozgorelec6198 Definitely, we're lucky to have this level of audio gear available at such low prices nowadays, and I don't doubt it'll sound good. But that's not revolutionary, we've had good sounding $100 DACs for quite some time already. I just don't see the point in releasing 2 new budget DACs each month. Each iteration may measure a bit better or offer a few different features, but they won't necessarily sound any better. I'm personally not a fan of these ultra-transparent DACs anyways, so consider me biased on that regard.

I like my pro ject s2 digital..its a little expensive cause the amp is only for hd58x or iem...but its cleean AF...and dead silent...so add a pro ject headbox s2 for 130ish and you have a killer 500dollars stack that you can put in your pocket...some will say buy thx dac/amp for 500 on drop...but I would rather take my pro ject stuff

any cable that works! cables (unless they're calling apart) will all sound the same. Monoprice makes cheap ones that work.

That's what Z uses it for. USB to optical and coaxial digital. the D10s is one of the best USB to Optical or Coaxial Digital converters on the market
