- I had to make this edit for everyone to see! I changed the pacing of the cuts and edit a little bit to match the changes in my track, and only kept the in between remarks from the other characters that stayed focused on the transformation. I do realize he starts powering up after the music already kicks in but I wanted it to hit at the same time for version. Otherwise it's mostly the same, hope you enjoy!

Super sayain three was always epic, In fusion reborn, dbz, dragon ball super. The reason goku doesn’t use it a lot is because of how stamina draining it is and it takes years of his life everytime he uses it
I always head cannoned, the reason they screamed while powering up was because it was painful.

What about Teen Gohan? If SSJ3 would have destroyed buu, it would have cemented itself, but in the end it's a forgotten & useless form. This episode was one of the best in the Buu Saga tho.

This is THE BEST moment of All dragon ball series. The stake is high, Goku cant fight Buu full power because of his limited time on earth but even so he is level beyond enyone else. Your music hits so hard with this iconic moment. Great work.

1:03 is when I started getting incredibly emotional. The music alone was amazing and everything I hoped for and more, but there was one thing missing. The scream, and with it the scene is not just complete.. it’s gone.. EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!

So correct!!! I can’t watch it without Bruce Falconer score. He brought heart to it with his music, gave it soul. I get goose bumps listening abd watching it together.
Shunsuke Kikuchi's score is amazing.
While I like some tracks of the Faulconer score, I feel it doesn't really fit the genre of the _Dragon Ball_ franchise in general. Also, to completely replace an entire score from a show solely because you wanna make it sound cooler is a sign of complete disrespect for said property. Like, I will NEVER forgive the original English dub for what they did to Gohan going SSJ2 for the first time (stupid inner monologue spouting info that we could easily figure out through the visuals (called "treating the audience like they're stupid") and replacing Unmei no hi with ill-fitting techno music).
That being said, the Faulconer SSJ3 theme is one of the tracks I do like and I think the use of it for this scene is awesome.

There are few compositions in the American soundtrack that I would call truly bad - the ones that are guilty of this were probably composed under the Funimation mandate that no scene should be completely musically silent - but yes, I do agree that the instrumentation is ill-fitting for much of the moments in the anime. The choice to have the theme “Android 16” transition into the rising portion of the theme “Gohan and Chichi Argue” only to then shift into the second half of Album I’s “Hyperbolic Time Chamber,” which is also a theme that played at the conclusion of the Funimation version of the SSJ3 power-up scene, when Gohan transformed into SSJ2 was and still is a messy choice. They did a much better job when they utilized the two versions of “Gohan Angers” in the following episode, when the transformation was extended and allowed the soundtrack to take more of a breather. Regarding instrumentation, “Gohan Angers” and “Gohan Angers 2” benefitted from a softer piano in that scene, while the former included an electric guitar for more intensity.
To summarize, Gohan’s transformation scene in the Cell Saga was poorly handled musically at the end of that episode when compared to the original Japanese broadcast, but it was handled better in the subsequent episode thanks to utilizing theme music with more appropriate instrumentals and less mashing together of other tracks for intensity’s sake.
On another note, I love both soundtracks because of the variety they both bring. Kikuchi’s score is more consistent compositionally and instrumentally, as well as being better reserved in the anime than the American soundtrack, which I believe makes Kikuchi’s score better overall, but I was around the American soundtrack for far longer, so I prefer them.
This is not just one of the best scenes in anime. This is one of the best scenes in all of media.

Your music are not only remakes. But the modernized reimagined spiritual successor of the original. Im amazed how you are so criminally underrated. you should be on the sound design team for the new dbs if they continue the story after the tournament of power.

DUUUUUUDE!!! You read my mind! I was just thinking that I would love to see this scene with your remake. Everything I thought it would be. You did great with the cuts, especially at 2:49. It honestly changes that part of the scene to match how intimate it is to Goku in that moment, but then leads into that climax that just HITS.
Ah thank you 🙏 I never know if my versions will actually work over the scene until I put it over it, but also re editing the pacing so it better matches the timing of the music really helped with that. That moment at 2:49 leading up to 3:15 is so cool and I was so pleasantly surprised it worked so well 😁

Man, I’m what I would consider myself a Faulconer Stan. I went and bought another full DBZ complete Blu-Ray set just because what I had available didn’t have that score. For me, that’s it. That’s where the feels are, that’s where the memories are, and that’s where I remember what it’s like to be 13 again when the Buu saga was in Toonami. All that said, I’ve always scoffed at the idea of anything mildly different.
Brother, you killed this. Shot it dead, left it in the street at high noon. It’s almost exactly as my brain is expecting it to be, yet each deviation is a smoothing-out of, or even an amplification of what it was. Even through the 2:00 mark in which the buildup is still happening, it seems more intentional and powerful. The drums…? Didn’t know I wanted that.
I’ve given this a good dozen listens. What you’ve done is an incredibly respectful take on what I can tell you understand was already perfect. Well done.

Love the track re imagining of this Bruce Faulkner classic. The thing I love about this scene and its set up and music is how it sent across the message that this transformation was taking a unnaturally high level of effort to do for Goku and really emphasized he would have never discovered it without the advantage of spending the last seven years in Otherworld. I also liked the subtext added by Toriyama-San to SSJ3 and the entire Buu arc that simply pushing past ones limits is not a "insta" victory and that sometimes when you push too hard you just burn out. Sometimes even the hero can't get it done without help.

Honestly, this is the superior edit for me. I will always love the Funimation edit but it takes you out of the moment a few times, even stopping the music. The fact that you limited the cuts to just focus on the transformation is what makes this great. Adding in your version of the SSj3 track, which feels more epic in its scale, makes it phenomenal.
This is like the straight to point version without losing any of the music :) I felt the same way, this way its just epic all the way, and almost creates more tension, because you don’t get distracted from what’s really happening and how serious it is. Glad you enjoyed it man!!

I have to say that as a Latino I adore the original soundtrack but the USA soundtrack has wonders like this piece that conveys everything necessary for the moment just like Gogeta's OST or Vegeta's "final flash".

One thing I would love to see is a rescored version of Gohan's Anger when he transforms to SSJ2 at the cell games. The original is great but the way it was interrupted by Mr Satan's comedic scenes really irks me as I feel the emotion got ruined in that moment. That would be a request of mine haha
