Thank you sir for making this look so easy! I bought my son a kx112 and told him that he has to learn to do some things himself. Also just subscribed to your channel. Keep teaching!
I talked to you the other day about the fork seals. Just got in my jug base nuts, two right hand side studs and dowel pins (PO had the nuts all rounded off and I ended up having to cut them off with a Dremel) but anyways I got my replacement parts and a brand new oem cylinder, weisco piston kit and I’m about to attempt my first top end rebuild tomorrow. Thank God for your kx100 content or I would have had a hard time finding out proper info on how to work on this thing without actually finding an owners manual somewhere. Not only that but reading something and seeing someone do something are two different things. Thank you again sir!
I couldn't see the dowel pins you mentioned when sliding cylinder over piston? Great video and appreciate it. ** Ok I see what you meant. The studs have a wider base and serve as a dowel.
Thanks, I enjoyed watching the video. I have a question, when should I move to a larger piston, and is there any work I can do about increasing the cylinder gap? I have a Kawasaki KX100 2013 bike. The piston gap now is 52.52 mm, and the service limits are 52.60, since I rebuilt it. piston and piston ring stand, and the pressure was 75 psi, and it is supposed to be between 119-180 psi, i.e. directives in this matter to gain high pressure in the engine
Hope you get this message and hope to hear back from you. I know this was posted two years ago but I just did a top and rebuild on my sons KX 85 and when I was looping up the piston and rings, I got a little bit of oil on the cylinder gasket, will that still be OK? I really hoping it will be.
Awsome thanks and good to hear back thanks again. so I have another question for you recently just did a top and rebuild on my son‘s bike, but the carburetter on the bike was replaced, not by me but the previous owner. I’ve done some research on the carb it is a pwk but it says on the information that I’ve read it has the 132 main jet in there instead of the 135 and my air screw is one and a half turns from seated just did not want the bike to be running too lean, while I do the break in procedure, it’s already had a couple heat cycles put through and was doing some research and I came across that so I’m not quite too sure what the main jet sizes I will know tomorrow once I take it apart, but was just wondering what you thought I’m currently running 24 to 1 for the break in
So the piston you took out had one ring and the new one you put in had 2 does it not matter I need to rebuild mine but all the ones for sale are 2 rings but mine only had one. Would it hurt anything?
My kx100 just got freshly rebuild turns on first kick but Boggs the moment you let out first not sure if it’s carb or power valve any suggestions would be more than appreciated
same im having a lot of trouble with my powervalve. not sure why Kawi made such a weird powervalve. Ive previously had Hondas and Suzukis and they were so much easier to work on
I just changed the piston and gaskets on a 2008 kx 100 I fired it up let it get hot then let it cool down. Then I went through the gear no more then half throttle then it just died on my and I can’t get it going again
@@786motorsport it is the correlation to the size. Some manufacturers categorize the piston size with letters. A is the smallest, D is the biggest. They go up by .01 mm.
I've been having a problem with my KX 100 transmission started out not wanting to shift up or down like the shifter was sticking now can't find neutral I've had the case split apart and the gears feel like they're locking when I switch into every gear I will get like maybe an eighth of a turn and then it feels locked can you help please
I've noticed there's 3 size options for the vertex kits. My wife @jessrainville, has a 2018 kx100 thats due for a top end. So how do I pick the right size kit? This video is a great learning tool for Jessica. Really appreciate this one just at the right time. Thank you
@@endurotruckererniedesjardins the difference is really really tiny. They would all work. The way to do it perfectly is to take it apart, measure the cylinder and get the piston that has the right or closest clearance. I usually order the middle one and run it. I’ve never had an issue.
Would you not recommend going straight to a track after doing a kx65 top end? On the heat cycle. My daughter is still a noob but they do splits on the main tack for the kids which requires her to ride it a little harder. Their are times when she’s over riding a gear but the there or times she’s on point with her shifting. Or Should I do a heat cycle by ridding the bike through the gears at 1/4 throttle then at half throttle then open it up as much as I can before she hits the track?
Im starting think a 2stroke is way easier to service and cheaper to ride. Growing up I loved the way the 2strokes pull but I like the smooth power of a 4stroke. Valves suck no pun intended !
I've been riding for 41 years. I ain't sponsored so I ride 2 strokes. I ve got 4 bikes to keep up in my family yz250, 2 kx100s and a xr100. I think I could rebuild all 4 of my 2 strokes for the cost of a proper yz450f top end rebuild. I trust a 2 stroke more for longer intervals between top ends. I've got over 200 hours on my 2018 yz250 and I've never even had to replace the original sparkplug it came out of the crate with.
WHAT COULD BE A REASON THAT A KX100 WOULD BE LEAKING OIL OUT OF THE POWER VALVE VENT. RUNS GREAT BUT LEAKS SMALL AMMOUNTS OF OIL OUT OF THE VENT ON TOP OF THE POWER VALVE ITSELF
He says “i wont show you guys exactly how to do that” PEOPLE READ YOUR SERVICE MANUAL it tells you everything the shops wont show you because they are hoping you don’t read and can’t follow directions so they can make money off of you I’ve been reading the service manual and then watching videos to see if people are not skipping steps I plan to never take my bike to a shop I will save money and learn something

That looks easy, btw how do i know when it needs to do the top ends? Just got 2nd hand kx100 and kinda lots of stuff needs to get fixed
You can do a compression test but if you don’t know, I’d just do it and start fresh

No. 2 ring pistons last longer.

I’d guess carb
For ring end gap is it distance between cylinder and ring or between the the two ends of the ring. What letter piston do I get for my 2016 kx100
Between the tips of the ring. And I’d go with a b or c
@@highlandcycles thanks
Did you link the top end kit
I didn't but here it is bit.ly/4atBNKy
Great video, Q why didn't you give the bore a hone ?
I did. I just didn’t film it.
Does the piston pop out of the jug?
I have a 2018 kx 100
And it dose.
Do you have a number I can call you?
Fixing to do the top end on my 16 kx 100. As far as I know it is still stock. Will the piston have code to order correct one ??
Yes
WHAT SIZE piston do i need for my 2016 kx100
B
I would have loved to see a disassembly and assembly of the power valves as part of the job. Never done on it a small kawi.

Hi the piston you removed had one ring I am right Morgan is there a performance gain heard a lot about which is best one ring or two👍
1 ring is better for performance but 2 is better for longevity.
can you adjust the power valve so it opens sooner ?
Not that I know of

what size piston did you use in video?
B
How far closed should my powervalves go should they close all the way?
Pretty close
What’s the part # for that kit. Trying to get the same kit. 2016 kx 100. Thanks
I’m not sure. I’ll try to remember to check when I get back to the shop

Any chance I can get a link to the kit? Thank you
Why didn’t you drain your coolant? Now you have coolant in your bottom end and have to replace that oil now as well.
I did drain it. Just doesn’t all come out on the 100’s

When you break in a fresh top end do you recommend a petroleum based oil or synthetic?? Thanks.
In 2 strokes I just recommend using whatever you have been but on 4 strokes I recommend a non synthetic to break in.
