Don sounded great for 75! Home Free was just amazing too. When Don received the star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame he asked HF to join him and they did. Loved they all got a part and loved the boxes as this was during Covid and I thought it was clever. They also do a great rendition of Vincent with Don that’s even better I think!
Home Free has done several covers with the original legends: "Elvira" with The Oakridge Boys, "God Bless the USA" with Lee Greenwood, "Christmas In Dixie" with Alabama, and (although I haven't been able to find a video of it) "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" with Charlie Daniels. And, as others have already mentioned, they recently covered "Vincent" with Don Maclean. Even when they're not working with the original artists, they still respect the original music, while still making it their own.
Great reaction Don had asked Home Free to do this for the 50th anniversary of this iconic song Don has calibrated with the boys a few times plus other big artists.
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
This song is about the deaths of singers Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and radio DJ/singer J. P. Richardson - 'The Big Bopper' - in a plane crash in 1959. Rumor has it 'the king' is Elvis Presley, and 'the jester' is Bob Dylan.
I think you would love their version of the song "The Driver", a tribute to the common worker which also invokes a music theme. Exquisite harmonies abound! Not reacted to as much as some of their more popular ones but gorgeous non the less.
I thought it was astonishing that Don McLean was willing to share his signature song on it's 50th anniversary with Home Free ! Shows that he has a high opinion of them.
The legendary status of our Home Free vocalists just keeps mounting to greater accolades that is very deserving of our attention. They are simply amazing and yet they are very humble. It is a privilege to enjoy their vocal gifts!!!! Every part of their journey is extremely important and significant to Home Free and is to be celebrated. Their respect for all the groups they interact with is paying off in mega-dividends back to them. They are very intentional with their respect and are extremely humble. They look for the good in others on purpose. They look to collaborate not only with established stars but make opportunities with new rising talented artists as others have done for them. They are what is right for this industry that makes us all fall in love with them individually and collectively as Home Free!!!! They with their leadership are bringing us all along for the ride for the right reasons. Long Live Home Free!!!! ❣
They are absolutely what the industry needs now. Unfortunately, the industry seems to be afraid of them. They would rule the radio if they could get airplay.
Home Free's cover "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers, is another tremendous one by this phenomenal group. You might want to give it a listen...loved your reaction!
Such a great performance by everyone. Home Free brought the joy of music back into my life. The other musician who completed that for me is Tommy Johansson, you should check him out. Try his cover of Winner Takes It All or Phantom of the Opera (where he sings both parts).
Don Mclean and Home Free did a beautiful job with this song. Chance did a beautiful job and Austin's high tenor. Rob's tenor and then Tim's voice and Adam's beatboxing at the end of this song Don finished the song is beautiful. The harmonies are beautiful 😊❤❤❤❤❤❤
Greetings from Scotland! There are classics, and there are real classics! THIS is a real classic! 1972, the year before I got married and this was at #2 in the charts in the UK! I'm still married to the same lady and this is still a superb song! 😊😊👍👍
Every time Home Free and Don McLean collaborate it’s always amazing. They also did Vincent ft Don McLean and Don just released a new album called American Boys and Home Free is ft on the title track. They released this on the 50th anniversary of the release of when the original was released They won 3 Telly awards for this version and was invited to sing a small part of the song when Don McLean got his Star on The Walk Of Fame
Don still has it. Such a beautiful voice after all these years. Home Free was exceptional as always. What an awesome collaboration! Love your reaction!
They always are very respectufl to the original but never fail to make them their own. Home Free actaully did another one with Don McLean, called Vincent. They've released it in May. Tim's rumbles are very noticeable in Blue Ain't Your Color as well. Also, Brothers in Arms.
Great job with your reaction and thoughts on this version of American Pie from Don McClain and Home Free this was a great Historic Rock Song but Adding Home Free bring it to The Modern World making it a new Classic.
Fun fact. Don Mclean's kids were all avid Weird Al fans and once at a concert, Don Mclean accidentally did a verse of Weird Al's *parody* of this song, 'The Saga Begins' instead of the correct lyrics.
Love this version of American Pie and Adam is the Drums if you listen to his beatboxing. Have watched this reaction numerous times. I love to see the people's reactions to Home Free. Check out Home Free singing all acapella "How Great Thou Art" Right before Covid and cut their European concert tour short. For a real laugh (they kept us entertained during the lockdown) "Quarantine" is an original short but so funny. American Pie was done during Covid and each part was sung in Home Free's home setup studios I think Don was at an actual studio and was edited to make the video. Oh Ps: Was funny seeing my owls on your shelf. Loved it. Pss: I got my tickets to see Home Free in September. Yeah.
Ooh my owl friend...I love those owls. So funny that you have them too. I will definitely check out your suggestions. Quarantine sounds interesting. Thanks Linda 🦉
Loved your reaction to this. Like you, I like the song, know it well and so appreciate the job they did on this. Thank you. If you haven't seen them see HOme Free's Best Arrangement: Do you hear what I hear, Best harmonies: Brothers in Arms, Best cover: Endof the Road, Funniest-Butts remix, Best solo: when a man loves a woman. and then My faves, One Man Band, Blue Ain't Your Color, Mayday, Snow Globe This could go on a while. They are soo good. Thanks again, best reaction I've seen to this song.
Great reaction to this new rendition and dare I say, classic made new! Don sounds fantastic and love how #HomeFree always allows the featured artist to shine. They never disappoint! Suggestions: Vincent feat Don McLean for obvious reasons! Take Me Home Country Roads - it’s said that they spent 5 years working on their arrangement until they felt John Denver would approve. I Can’t Outrun You - for pure 5-part harmonies; video concept and direction by Chance. Might As Well Be Me - an original by Tim - please pause to read their bios and written answers which will add to the hilarity. One Man Band - apparently shot in one take. The Stargazer Trilogy - originals by Austin: Chapter 1 - Give Me A Sign Chapter 2 - Stargazer Lillies Chapter 3 - Mr.
That was so incredible. So many added elements that were all right on time so to speak. To take on such an iconic song with these results is an amazing feat.
The "day the music died" was February 3, 1959...when a small plane crash ( ua-cam.com/video/QQFO6isorFg/v-deo.html ) took the lives of three of the most promising rock & rollers of that time: Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and J. P. Richardson ("The Big Bopper".) Years later, Don released "American Pie" with all kinds of coded references to that sad event, and the loss of innocence in music, in general. This remake was Don's celebration (with Home Free's assistance) of the 50th anniversary of the song...and they scheduled the release of the video on February 3.
This is a happy song for itself and even more with those harmonies. It's a good version to start a cloudy day. For now it made me happy for a while 😊. Thank you, greetings 👏👋
The "day the music died" refers the 1959 airplane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, & the Big Bopper. Since you enjoyed this performance so much, you have to react to Home Free's cover of "Elvira" ft. The Oak Ridge Boys!
Truly a great cover. I loved seeing how you were so into the song, mouthing the words along with them (and actually singing a time or two). Now that you have listened to both Home Free and Pentatonix, please try the remaining one of the big three a capella groups, Voiceplay. They have a lot of great song and tend to be pretty theatrical. If you know the song We Don't Talk About Bruno, from Disney's Encanto, they have an amazing cover of that. Another fantastic song to try from them would be Valhalla Calling. If you are impressed with the bass tones here, I think you will be truly impressed with Voiceplay, also. Their bass, Geoff Castellucci is absolutely fantastic.
Since you asked about other singers. The 3 top acapella bands are: Home Free, Voiceplay, and Pentatonix. All 3 participated in seasons of the Sing Off which was a competition for acapella singers. PENTATONIX won against 15 other groups in 2011. HOME FREE won the next year. VOICEPLAY also competed the same year as Home Free. Don't miss out on the other 2 fantastic bands. PENTATONIX does many pop songs but they "own " Christmas songs. They are the youngest group and have a female with 4 guys. VOICEPLAY covers all genres . Because some of the guys worked at Disney and other parks in Florida, they are sometimes very theatrical. They have done several Disney medleys, Their bass, Geoff Castelucci, has a 5 octave range singing tenor all the way down to subharmonic. He has is own channel where he clones himself and does 4 & 5 part harmony. You will be blown away by the covers that are done in costume and professional makeup. Each of these groups has HUNDREDS of covers. Many have been viewed by millions. Jump in!!! You are missing so much.
Don wanted to dust off his 50 year old song so he asked Home Free to it with him. When asked why he picked Home Free he said because they know harmony! Or something to that effect. Anyway, another great old song updated by Home Free.
I enjoy homefree there very talented I also love voice play accapella group they into there songs fun to watch I rec starting with hoist the colors, cover from pirates of the Caribbean you be back for more check them out
I subbed to you because of The Warning songs you are doing. Any, The Warning song is great. But, I am going to ask that you react to Procol Harum Whiter shade of pale 2006 Denmark, please. TY
This is how a song sounds when the poet sings his own song.
I enjoyed your reaction your a very sensitive soul best wishes William UK
Mclean said that he chose Home Free to do the 50th Anniversary version with because, quote, 'They GET harmonies.'
"A Legend singing with Angels" - what a nice thing to say and a perfect reaction to this performance. Thanks for sharing with us! #HomeFree
Great reaction Don had asked Home Free to do this for the 50th anniversary of this iconic song Don has calibrated with the boys a few times plus other big artists.
They also did a cover of "Vincent" with Mr McLean. It is absolute perfection. You should check it out as well.
Perfection might be an understatement.
It was stunning! ❤
Too right!

Great reaction! Every time I hear HF, i forget there are no physical musical instruments.

I was beginning to think I was the only person still alive that new the story behind the song.
Don actually contacted Homefree to do this. Guess he was a fan. 😉 🌹
Home Free has done a LOT of great covers don't stop !!

Hey, you never need to get scared when Home Free cover a classic, they are not people, they are gods. They have never ever had one misstep.
"A legend singing with angels." Wow. You nailed THAT!!! Great reaction!
78 years old with a voice like that!!
Loved it should try there version of TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS it's 🔥
#HomeFree ❤❤
I love this version. HF took a great song and repectfully made it even better.

Give Home Free's cover of "Helplessly Hoping" a listen.
Time's standing still right now . . . 🎵 ⏰ 😢 🙏 😊
Now please, do their collaboration on “Vincent”
Yes! It’s at least as good.
Great job with your reaction and thoughts on this version of American Pie from Don McClain and Home Free this was a great Historic Rock Song but Adding Home Free bring it to The Modern World making it a new Classic.
Love Don and #HomeFree
Such a good collaboration 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If you like Homefree, you will also like Pentatonix and VoicePlay. Great a capella bands 👌🏻👌🏻
Don and Home Free did "Vincent" must see hear !!!!
More Home Free!
Don knew about how good Home Free was. He invited them to collaborate on the 50th anniversary of the release of this song.
This made me feel so good watching your joy.

Great reaction to this new rendition and dare I say, classic made new! Don sounds fantastic and love how #HomeFree always allows the featured artist to shine. They never disappoint!

Can't go wrong with any song from Home Free. They've released some original songs lately. Also Don McClean's Vincent, Oak Ridge Boys etc.
If you were there, and I was, it does NOT get any better.
The "day the music died" refers the 1959 airplane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, & the Big Bopper. Since you enjoyed this performance so much, you have to react to Home Free's cover of "Elvira" ft. The Oak Ridge Boys!
*_Awesome_* *_Love it_* *_Thank you_*
For 3 more "Oh wow amazing" performances, check out "When a Man Loves a Woman", "How Great Thou Art", and "End of the Road". These guys are amazing...
Sorry, I think I love you mate. Lol you are wonderful.

This song was written about the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens
Voiceplay - you will love them as well. Try Oogie Boogies song for starters.
