Thanks for watching!! So happy that I'm doing another Home Free focus week! AND I have new merch 😱 Check it out - jenniferglatzhofer-shop.fourthwall.com/en-gbp/?
I love your analysis and what you break down the vocals and being a songwriter in recorder I can apply some of the suggestions that you make. I would not want you to analyze any of my vocals because I sing baritone bass as a rule and trying to do a lead vocal is really challenging especially when I try to do a second dinner since I can't reach a first tenor. I just want to say I love you and I love to watch you break down these songs.❤
My favorite behind the scenes moment from this was when Don McLean was recording his part, he asked Tim how they wanted him to sing it. Tim answered, "You sing it how you want and we'll adjust to you."
They did this collaboration with Don for the 50th anniversary of the song. They won 3 Telly awards and Home Free was invited to join Don when he received his Star on The Walk Of Fame and sing a part of this song. Adam Bastien stepped into Austin’s place on June 21. Adam B was a member of Chris Rupp’s group 7th Ave . Home Free recently released the last video that has Austin in it called Crazy Life.
Don is such a Living Legend and this is a prime example of why. I love that Home Free kept the arrangement simple, showcasing Don's genius Songwriting. This is, arguably, the best version of this song. And, in my opinion, the best thing Home Free has done to date. It's, certainly, my favorite Home Free song to date. That last note always gets me, especially with the genius move to have Don wear his shades the whole song, only to take them off as that final note hits. I can't not cry at that ending.
Yay for another Home Free week* (*approximate) 😊! Great choice to start with this one. I was at school when Don McLean released the original, and I put off listening to this version for ages because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. Now it's my favourite version. All of the guys sound magnificent - and I love the way Chance takes over the bass so seamlessly when Tim sings his verse. The only time I've ever seen Adam Rupp out of breath is in the behind the scenes video on patreon after keeping that rhythm going for the full song. Thanks Jen!
I love how Chance can just step in on bass when Tim steps into higher range. His motions seemed to indicate that he did just that. To follow Chances range try Can't Stop the Feeling, and also enjoy some of his instrument sounds when they launch into an instrumental section.
Yay. Home Free week! I love everything Home Free does but colabs with original artists is my favorite. I wish they did more of them. This version is amazing. Don’s voice is so iconic.
Thanks for your analysis. Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out over 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
Don still sounds so good! We’re seeing the end of an era of great music! Hopefully new artists will listen and learn to write with their heart and sing with their souls so we can continue to hear moving music like these! Great job Jenn! Looking so forward to the rest of the week! Tennessee friend, low bass Kenneth
I just read an interview with John Ford Coley in which he said many modern songs don’t have melodies that you can sing along with, which was a strength of 1970s music.
They have so many collaboration with other artists, but this is by far my absolute favorite. I heard that Adam almost passed out from beatboxing for so long. This is an absolutely amazing song. I always enjoy watching your reaction and analysis video for their songs. 32:53
Thanks for your Home Free analysis. These guys are the best. I know the other acapella groups are very talented, but there is just something about their personalities.❤
Such a creative way to continue to put out videos--in spite of quarantine! 🥰 And goodness--one wonders how the amazing Adam Rupp was able to beatbox through such a long song without passing out!! 🤯 #HomeFree
Thank you for your, as always, excellent in-depth reaction and analysis of this iconic song, where all the Home Free members shines in this Don McLean 50 year anniversairy edition . I've been waiting a long time for you to reaction to this song and I'm glad it's now happened.
When this came out the first time, it was powerful, and played frequently. It is still wonderful even more so all these years later. Thank you Jenn for this. Everything you bring to these songs means SO much to me, and reinforces what I often feel but can’t express. ❤
Again, I am enjoying the channel. I saw Don McLean in Aberdeen, Scotland in the late 70’s and after watching Home Free on the TV show, saw them on the Canadian Pacific Christmas Train 8 years ago in North Dakota. I must admit I NEVER expected to see or hear them together, EVER … but this and Vincent were both amazing.
Fantastic reaction to a fantastic song. This cover is up there for one of my favorites of them and so cool that Don McLean was actually in it and they let him shine while still doing the Home Free thing. Love it!
When Adam did the bow that is when his beatbox dropped out, it wasn't a solo, but he again joined in singing with them to the end. They all won multiple telly awards for this video.
I'm so old, I remember when this song was new! At the time a local radio station would, on request, send a break-down of the meaning of each line of the lyrics (I wish I'd kept mine). This song is so deep and covers so much American history from the tragic plane crash to the travesty of Altamont, Kent State to Janis Joplin. Don McLean still sounds terrific! He doesn't write lyrics, he puts poetry to music.
So good. I can’t believe Don sounds that good at 75! Love their rendition of Vincent as well. They all got a verse and all sounded so good. I heard Adam almost fainted. It’s a loooong song! Crunchy as always Jen!
Loved your reaction! One of my favorite Home Free arrangements. Tim's sound in this reminds me of the old Rockabilly sound. All of them put their own special spin on their parts. Especially enjoyed Adam Rupp's jewel tones in the harmonies at the end
Lovely reaction and analysis, Jen. I agree that Adam Chance seems more and more comfortable in his own skin - you can see it in both his latest Home Free songs, as well as his newer solo work (which is absolutely wonderful). I'm glad he got the first verse. :) Thanks for all that you do.
I was around for the original 50 years ago and heard it sooooo many times - and never could understand all the lyrics. Until Home Free came to the party. This is so glorious. Can't wait for the rest of the week.
WHAT? You're not wearing your Home Free pin fit Home Free week? It's great that this collaboration was Don's idea, and he asked HF if they would back him for the 50th Anniversary of its original release. Kudos to Don for having the insight to recognize that this would work as well as he thought it would.
Tim Foust's voice is like a cup of black coffee in the morning. Adam Chance's voice is like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. And Adam Rupp is the metal cup that, when dragged against prison bars, manages to beat the Devil in a guitar battle.
Was waiting for your reaction to Chance's vocals and you did not disappoint 😃 I think I listened to that part over and over again about a dozen times before letting the whole song play out. Knew he could do it but actually hearing it....WOW 🔥🔥🔥
Hey, Darlin! I just wanted to let you know that there is something to put on your list. Adam Chance just dropped some new solos. I can't wait for the rest of this week's choices, Jenn.
I confess I was indifferent to this rendition of the song. But listening with Jen, I see it in a new light. The original version is a young man living through the repercussions of that terrible day. This version uses Don's aged-textured voice of that man still mourning the loss. Time doesn’t heal some wounds. As ever, Baby Cousin, brilliant work and charming presentation.
Oo! ❤ A new Home Free week. 😃🤩❤️ I will be follow it! For sure! Ha, ha, ha... Chance still shockes you! 😅😅 As you say - you should know by now. He have had a good teatcher in Tim. Well I think he has. Love this... ❤ Oh... Tim.... Yes. Rest my case there. And Dons voice. So clear, so good... Considering his age. Cant wait for tomorrow. Great work Jen.❤
A huge statement has been reinforced numerous times over the last half dozen years when notorious artists have collaborated with Home Free in singing legacy hits and in several cases have reached out to Home Free. Home Free has shown extraordinary respect to these artists to the point there is mutual respect and admiration that is very visible both ways. Home Free is a very humble group of guys who know how to pay their respects as they showcase these well-respected and well-known artists. Just wow, and we are the benefactors of this wonderful trust as they deliberately give each other and us a chance to enjoy once again a freshness to the decades that gone on before us with a wonderful tribute. Home Free is showing the industry a strong core value of High Regard, Strong Consideration, Attentiveness, High Opinion, and Due Regard for those who have set the stage for the music we enjoy today. Thank You Home Free, for your leadership by action that we all admire and appreciate doing things the right way!!!!! ❣ Always enjoy your reactions Jennifer!! 💯
Jen ... Jen!?! : ) Oh so good! Yep, Chance can be up there (and higher!) ... but also, Chance takes over the bass as Tim does his "key" thing. Very similar but - but a slight texture change ... then both low later - together. Ya know, Don never re-cut American Pie since his original from 1971 --- till the 50th anniversary with Home Free!!! Special things, huh!?! Loved it !!! Keep Rockin' Be Safe
Jennifer, I dont that if you're going to get to it, but one of their originals, Love Me Like That, is one of my favorites. Also, the I Can't Outrun You Cover. Both will bring emotion.
I think it was about this song that I heard Adam Rupp nearly passed out from the demands on his breath. That, however, would tend to disconfirm my theory that his species has gills, so I'm not buying it.
I believe American Pie is the longest song in recording music history without an instrumental solo. Although, the Eagles have a couple songs of similar length. Please react to the original American Pie by Don Mclean. The song was about the Day the Music died and gives a History of Rock and Roll singers and places. This song had hidden Easter Eggs trying to figure out which Artists he was mentioning in the song.

Jen, HF has collaborated with Don McLean on another of Don's great songs, Vincent. That is one you simply must review. But make sure you have your tissue with you. You will need it. Great reaction as usual.
Ummm… Jen, I didn’t hear you comment on the deep “ba-du’s” while Tim was singing. I have a hard time believing you missed that… but if you did (or didn’t), do you think that was layered in from Tim or filled in by Chance? Just curious of your thoughts. 🤔
Those eight and a half minutes or so went far too fast in my opinion. Which only shows how great a song this is and how great the artists are. While there are songs of Home Free that I personally don't enjoy (mostly Christmas songs, but I don't like Christmas songs in general with a few exceptions) I have yet to find one that was poorly executed. So yay for the Home Free week. And your reactions and analysis are always a joy to watch, too. It's clear how much you enjoy the music and you usually point something out that I didn't notice before. I totally love Jennifer but can't imagine how long it is going to take to get through this already long, long song 😂😂😂 Good God we can't even get started 😢
Not bad for a Septuagenarian, eh, Jen? He's my age, and still sounds great! And Chance is perfect for this. Now that Austin's gone, Chance has been promoted to my favorite.❤
If you talk enough, you can be doing what you like to do best. That way nobody gets to understand a thing your subject does or you have to say about it.

A third Adam? Are Rob and Tim going to change their names to Adam R and Adam T?
@@JeshuaSquirrel the jokes has been that they are The Adam’s Family or Rob and Tim have to change their name to Adam 😂
I love what Home Free and Don McClean did with this classic song. Great reaction and analysis. Lots of insights in this one. ❤
Thank you!!😁
The fact that all 4 (really all 5) of the guys sing at the same octave is just * *Chefs kiss* *. This is such a bop. You cant NOT smile at it

Poodle skirts, rock n' roll, & Feb. 3, 1959 the day the music died. I'm so old that I can remember all of them.

Such a love letter to Rock n Roll. My brother introduced me to Buddy Holly's music when I was growing up.

Jennifer is the most beautiful woman in the world. ❤❤❤
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Great reaction. Adam Rupp is so insanely talented. They all sounded great
The video is mind-boggling plus the vignettes and the flowing changes are a full-time study to absorb everything, Need lots of re-watches!

Wonderful reaction to this amazing collab, Jen! Thanks for another #HomeFree week - we need them more often!
ooh!! A HF WEEK!!!! How great!
I think many people don't notice that Adam is singing the last chorus.
I was around for the original 50 years ago and heard it sooooo many times - and never could understand all the lyrics. Until Home Free came to the party. This is so glorious. Can't wait for the rest of the week.

They did this song for the 50th anniversary of this song.... so Don is in his 70's..... crazy good voice still!
Great analysis as usual.
Thanks, Jen!
I like Robs verse the most.
When he changed the rhythm a bit on "do you recall what was revealed"
Tim Foust's voice is like a cup of black coffee in the morning.
Adam Chance's voice is like a cup of hot chocolate on a cold winter day.
And Adam Rupp is the metal cup that, when dragged against prison bars, manages to beat the Devil in a guitar battle.
I have lived this song for a long time and now I get Home Free with it. Good times!!
Oh. Have you listened to their church-session version of Go rest high on that mountain? If not - my wish for a reaction.
Was waiting for your reaction to Chance's vocals and you did not disappoint 😃 I think I listened to that part over and over again about a dozen times before letting the whole song play out. Knew he could do it but actually hearing it....WOW 🔥🔥🔥
So good!
That rising glissando that Rob does reminds me of the air raid sirens that they tested during that time here…
Such a great reaction and analysis 👏🏻👏🏻
The Boys 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Jenn, you always do the best reviews. If you haven't listened to Amazing Grace from Homefree you should. It is awesome. Stay well and be safe.

I love this song. It’s an allegorical history of the rock and roll scene that transpired after this seminal event.
I'm sure the boys were so happy to have the opportunity to work with Don on his extremely famous song!
Don mclean being in his 70's still has a great voice
Great start to the HF week, thanks Jen 😊
Yay😁
this song always makes me sad, I miss the old days love this song
Nostalgic and nice. Thanks.
#HOMEFREE....great!
I love Rob`s voice
This is stunning!! HF week is where it's at!! Thanks Jen!!
😁
How did I miss this yesterday? Love Home Free week!
Oo! ❤ A new Home Free week. 😃🤩❤️

This song has always made me cry and I don't even know what it's all about.
Don McLean's slow-wave vibrato at the end is the most unique I've ever heard. Is there a term for this?
I love this version of American Pie. It's just so good ❤ How come you never listened to it before? It's been out for ages.
Thanks I love your reactions
Ma'am, I am VERY excited for your reaction to Champagne Taste!!!!
You need to check out the vault edition for this song.

I am almost certain than that single note at the beginning was Adam Rupp
YAY!!! Jen and Home Free week! 😊

Poor Adam 8 plus minutes of non stop beatboxing, believe that had oxygen handy for him.
Adam said he almost needed oxygen after this round.
American Pie is one of the longer songs of the rock era at 8 minutes
Every time I hear this song I automatically replace the lyrics with Weird Al's version. I can't help it.
Listen to Vincent by Home Free with Don McLean
It’s on my channel ☺️
@@JenniferGlatzhofer : glad I get you, compare the different of this and Vincent?
I believe American Pie is the longest song in recording music history without an instrumental solo. Although, the Eagles have a couple songs of similar length. So, I may be slightly off with my fun fact. However, the point I was making still holds and that is this is probably the most verbose song in music history.
A jumpahhhh or jumper, would mean like an adult onsie. 😂😂 so, sweatshirt or hoodie might sell better in the US. 😉🥰
I wish you could understand the meaning of this song. it is a a history of the 50s,60s, music, it takes a novel to understand.

Over on my channel already ☺️
Ummm… Jen, I didn’t hear you comment on the deep “ba-du’s” while Tim was singing. I have a hard time believing you missed that… but if you did (or didn’t), do you think that was layered in from Tim or filled in by Chance? Just curious of your thoughts. 🤔
Those eight and a half minutes or so went far too fast in my opinion. Which only shows how great a song this is and how great the artists are. If you talk enough, you can be doing what you like to do best. That way nobody gets to understand a thing your subject does or you have to say about it.
You seem very happy, is that really water in that drink you have? Just saying.
Tims dissonant base notes.
Love your reactions, except that you need to forget the words "us" and "we". Seriously.
Jen, the only problem I have with your reactions, is you take sooooooo long to react to all songs 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
Oh my God you pause Way too much I'm out
