  • Marc and Morgan from wholelattelove.com review the Breville Grind Control Coffee Maker. Whether you're making a single cup or a whole carafe, the Grind Control by Breville grinds fresh coffee every time you brew. Housed in elegant stainless steel, this machine raises the bar for drip coffee makers. Inheriting the mantel left by Breville's popular YouBrew series, the Grind Control boasts a number of improved and thoughtful features that make it a worthy successor.

      sounds like a lot of work. what's your opinion of finding something like this combined with the 301 Ninja features. the 301 doesn't heat the milk, doesn't have a drip tray down below, doesn't allow a metal filter, has a lever that has to be flipped left and right to remove the carafe, which is ridiculous, etc, etc. Screw Ninja, I'd rather have a functional coffee machine such as this beauty. thx for a great video.

    Seven years late! I have a gaggia cadorna for my morning Americano and my wife’s milky drinks. But, I’m looking for something that will do a put that I can drink from though the morning. I’m running to decide between this and the breville precision brewer (which would need a grinder to be purchased as well). Any advice?

    We have had this machine for some time. However we recently noticed a missing element to our coffee. We decided to.upgrade to the Moccamaster KGBT, and we use the Oxo goodgrips $99 burr grinder.
    What is your opinion on my decision?

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  4 роки тому +2

      Hi mark, I think most important for good coffee is grinding quality beans right before brewing. Both setups do that. The Breville Grind Control automates much of the process. It has some adjustments which allow easy tuning of your coffee. But, it's an appliance quality build and does require regular cleaning to keep it working properly. The Moccamaster is a purer form of coffee making with excellent build quality and SCA gold cup certification for proper brew parameters.

    For the last several years we have loved our Breville YouBrew. Unfortunately it broke and is no longer available. We tried the Grind Control model, but it does not have a steep control setting. YouBrew had a strength and flavor setting option. We had both settings at the highest so that we enjoyed very strong, but smooth coffee. For an individual cup, it would take @ 6.5 minutes to brew. The Grind Control took @ 3 minutes to brew, which made for a much weaker tasting cup of coffee. I called Breville customer service but they said that option is unavailable on this model. So, my question for you: Is there a comparable coffeemaker to the YouBrew? We want a machine with a grinder, single cup ability, and strength and steep time control. I have been looking at the Gaggia Anima, but it seems to have as many good reviews as bad. Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

      Hi TS, Thanks for the question. Have you considered a bean to cup automatic coffee machine. More expensive upfront but actually more convenient than Keurig, much lower cost per cup, superior coffee and no plastic waste! I'm still fussing with the settings on my Cuisinart DGB-900BC (thermal carafe / no hot plate) trying to make the coffee strong enough. There are 3 strength settings, but no grind size control. Today I set it to "strong", set the grind control to 8 cups, but only put 4 cups of water through it. It's still not strong enough for my liking and the flavor isn't great either. How did this Breville compare to the Cuisinart Grind & Brew series in your experience? I might have to go back to my 5 cup Mr. Coffee for now. At least with that, I had a technique down for making a good cup.

      I have the same machine. My rule of thumb is to set the grind 2 numbers higher than the water level. Grind at 10, water at 8. Strength at 3. I never have any problem with my coffee. Plenty strong. Never weak. What kind of roast are you using? Do you clean out the chute and occasionally run a descaler or vinegar through the machine?
      4 settings higher for grind/water seems REALLY strong. There has to be an issue somewhere... and before you tell me I'm making my coffee weak... I'm a coffee snob from Seattle. I wouldn't make weak coffee :) Haha

    Is there a way to empty out the water completely from the Breville Grind Control? Perhaps if the water has been in the tank for too long?
    Also, is there a feature for just hot water? Thanks!

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  7 років тому +1

      Hi, There is no specific feature for just hot water although you could just run a brew with no coffee to get just hot water. There is a procedure to empty the machine of water which involves setting the machine to brew using pre-ground but not actually putting any pre-ground coffee in the basket. Here's a link to the machine's manual which outlines the procedure on page 25: www.brevilleusa.com/media/mediaappearance/16074/BDC650BSS_USC_IB_C15_Lowres_master.pdf

    My single cup capsule brewer broke few days a go. I just made coffee with my old regular drip brewer and the coffee was great. I was using too much the capsule brewer and I totally forgot what is a good cup of coffee. Those capsules are awful

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 років тому +3

      +Paul linos The capsule brewers offer some level of convenience but quality in the cup is lacking. For some coffee is merely a caffeine transport mechanism and lack of flavor is not a big deal. Or maybe they've never had a good cup from freshly roasted and freshly ground beans so they don't know what their missing!

      Hi JK, Depends... pre-soak of coffee grounds prior to brewing def improves flaovr when working with coffee that's very fresh from roast. It allows the CO2 locked up in the grounds to off-gas bprior to brewing.

  • @Simba.Luna.
    @Simba.Luna. 6 років тому +1

    I was waiting to get this coffee maker so long because it’s very expensive. Finally I got it and was very disappointed. I loved how it worked and how you can adjust everything and make a single cup, but I had to return it. Your coffee got cold too quick. When your coffee is done the temp is just ok. Then it gets cold. And I wanted my coffee stronger and the reason I got this is so you can adjust your strength. All it does is grind it finer, then it was very fine and got into my coffee. Why could it just grind MORE coffee or add less coffee. That’s how you make your coffee stronger. Why couldn’t it just do that? It grinds it finer and then it gets in your coffee. It was almost perfect and almost amazing. It was disappointed because I really was in love with how it worked. I wanted to love it.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  6 років тому +1

      Hi RH, Thanks for sharing your impressions of the machine. You should have been able to change strength by adjusting the amount of coffee ground. It's a feature of the machine.

    • @Simba.Luna.
      @Simba.Luna. 6 років тому

      Whole Latte Love I tried everything on it and the coffee wasn’t hot enough. Of course I adjusted the strength. I’m assuming that was suppose to add more coffee grounds, that’s the only reason I bought this machine and it didn’t do much. So you say it’s a feature of the machine, yes it is, but it doesn’t work that well or at least for me. Who wants cold coffee anyways. So is there some hidden way I was suppose to add more coffee grounds? Did I do it wrong? Did adjusting the strength not work? Also, I adjusted how fine the coffee was ground but it got into my coffee. Thanks for your reply though.

      Love You Nala Hello... I know this conversation is old, but I just upgraded from my old Breville to the “new” one in this video. I LOVE my old one and I find I have to get used to this one. I’m only on Day 2, so I don’t want to be too critical. My first impression was that I can’t get my coffee as strong as on my old machine. Even with the strength on 8 and the grind on the finest setting. The brew time is cut in half of my old machine, so I wonder if that factors in to it not getting as strong as we like it (or the water as hot?). I liked the warming plate on my old machine, too, as it warmed the cup while the coffee was brewing. I have had both the Breville coffee and tea maker for 6+ years, and needed to replace my coffee maker. I expected to love the new design features MORE, but I think I just need a little time to get used to it. I will not be returning it because I really do love these machines. Hoping you do, too! 🌈

      Make it stronger, if you don't have enough coffee ground for the cup or pot size then it will be acidic. Also in general the lighter the bean roast the more grinds needed.

    It would have been nice to see the machine actually working. In particular, how does the grinder work, i.e. from fine to coarse, what do the grinds look like? And how much coffee per cup is used from the weakest to the strongest setting? And finally why would anyone shell out $300 for this machine when other drip coffee machines can be had for less than $100. As is, your review is but an reading of a Breville Marketing Brochure. You do better usually. Thanks for the great work you do otherwise.

  • @karunald
    @karunald 8 років тому +1

    So if doing 1 quick cup of coffee - it takes approx 4 minutes? Not including grind time. That's a long time to wait.
    It sounds like it doesn't get hot enough from reviews I've read. 162 for a single cup? Hmm.... Why is it very few mfrs can't pull off the right temperature? I'm not going to run my hot tap water to get that hot and fill the carafe to let that sit for a bit before I make coffee. No way.

    • @Wholelattelovepage
      @Wholelattelovepage  8 років тому +1

      +karunald Pre-heating brewing equipment is a very common practice. 162 is a good in cup temperature for specialty coffee. Most people we know who enjoy specialty coffee prefer it cooler. 150ish is a common temp. More flavor can be tasted the closer a beverage is to body temp.
      As for the 4 minute brewing... That's a fairly common immersion time for press coffee. When making single serve, the Breville Grind Control is using a press type process for brewing.

    • @karunald
      @karunald 8 років тому +1

      +Whole Latte Love - That may be. But in the dead of winter after an outside activity or even getting up in the morning - a HOT cup of regular great tasting coffee is a great and needed thing.
      I also wish Breville made a good coffee machine without the grinder so one can have that option. Like they've done with their Espresso machines.
      I like this though, mostly worried about temperature.

    Have been using the BDC600XL since 2012...it's beginning to malfunction so might be upgrading to the 650BSS. I bought my 600XL in 2012. I like the fact that it doesn't have the disposable plastic capsules that all the climate nazi's get all upset about. I mostly drink a 14 oz. latte of coffee with the machine and appreciate the single cup (adjustable) capability and ability to use pre-ground coffee as well. What I dislike about both the 600XL and this machine is that for single cup coffee the temperature is way off.... I have to heat the coffee in the microwave just to get it where I want it. Breville suggesting to preheat your cup is just ridiculous!

    In my opinion any coffee maker using a stainless steel karafe is out of the picture. Stainless steel absolutely ruins the flavor of coffee, where glass does not.

      Hi Alan, Thanks for sharing your opinion. I wonder if some people are more sensitive to tasting stainless? Personally I don't.

      @@Wholelattelovepage Possibly. If you read reviews on Amazon for insulated coffee cups or travel cups, there are some that taste the difference and some that don't. I will only put my coffee in a ceramic mug or glass, as any type of stainless steel lined thermos or travel cup just makes it taste bad.

      Alan Gross Hi Alan. Interesting point!... I don’t enjoy my coffee as much either when I need to use my stainless travel mug. I wonder if they had problems or complaints with the warming plate that was on my old Breville, so they decided to do away with it and use the stainless to keep the coffee warm? Anyway, as the ONLY coffee drinker in the house 😉 , it’s not a deal breaker for me. I always brew into my cup. Wishing you well!!! ☀️

      I prefer the stainless steel thermos type carafe. I did not like the taste in my previous drip coffee maker that used glass on a hot plate.

    Dont waste your time with this junk. We bought one, it would never work right and the company would only warranty out their product if we paid out of pocket.

      I purchased a Breville Precision Brewer. You are better off to purchase a standalone grinder, rather than one that's attached to the machine which is very expensive to be repaired, and certainly will wear out over time. My ex-roomate had this coffee maker which was awesome, and woke us up every morning. It made great coffee, but seem to taste a little acidic.

      @@aliendesign2023 we already went and bought a 12$ brewer and a 6$ grinder... the only 2 things this breville is good for is target practice or take it to breville corporate and throw it through their window... either way I'll never buy another breville because they dont stand behind their product

    Definitely the worst coffee maker I’ve ever owned. Needs a lot of marketing.
