One notable Addition: the V/Peace sign isn't quite as universal; In the UK (and other countries that drive on the *wrong* side of the road?) they actually do a head-wave of sorts this is due to the inconvenience of taking your hand of the throttle to be able to wave/sign.
People don't commonly know this but the sign language letter H is made with two fingers out to the side, so the V sign could also mean Hi, a greeting in sign language. Just making an observation. I rode in the early 70s and only just got back into riding (Harley Sportster) and I'm sorry it took me so long to come back.
I always do the peace sign but aimed down. And everyone else does too. A friendly gesture for sure, but I've also heard the upside down peace sign as "two wheels down" meaning be safe
Yeah i always see it in that way, more below the waistline while riding. Riders do it in a way that looks like they're signaling themselves going into the left lane.
Yes, two fingers indicating two wheels. Angled down to indicate "keep both wheels on the road -- be safe". This was NEVER a peace sign. I'm 65, been riding for 49 years. This was NOT a Vietnam war peace thing. Nope.
I did the wave when I first started, but found people around me always did the peace sign at the side, and turns out that was always easier since there was less drag and such
Two fingers down, is a blessing to other riders, street riding, is great fun, but very dangerous, two fingers, two Wheels, down, A thought a prayer, a blessing, be safe brother.
I love doing the wave. To me it’s a brotherhood of riders. ❤️❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰. No matter whatcher ridin. No matter what color you are. If yer on two wheels I wave with my heart on my sleeve. 🙏🙏🙏. Oh...and for the record I own a Harley. 🤗
I am 54 and recently just decided I wanted to ride again after about 30 years. I just bought a Yamaha R3 which is been delivered tomorrow and I am super excited and nervous as well but when I saw Shia at the end saying DO IT I got goosebumps. This is going to be an adventure! Love your chanel bro
Just found you in my feed. Only watched a couple of your vids so far, but ive laughed every time. Your little add ins and edits are great! Before this i watched the dying harley one...that WHAT THE! had me screamin! Im definitely subbed and gonna be checking out your content more. Awesome vids!
Well done. I rode in the 70's and it was a relaxed/lazy two fingers or fist at or above the bar. Always wondered if there was a reason for the change. Today's greeting was left turn or slowing down depending on location.
Helpful video explaining some history of the biker wave. I ride a Harley Davidson and remember back in the day when rider waves consisted of the casual raising of two fingers above the handlebar, or, a raised fist above the handlebar when acknowledging fellow riders. I do wave, or acknowledge by waving, when seeing another rider. With that said please respect, nonetheless, the rider that does not wave for whatever reasons and also wish them well. 🙂👍
I came here thanks to Ride Apart doing an article about your video. I watched your other 2 videos and really enjoyed them. Looking forward to more content!
Awesome video! I laughed when you said Malaysia because you would def throw a million a day. I live in Bangkok and in every major city in Southeast Asia scooters are the primary mode of transportation, they probably outnumber cars 3 to 1. And Oddly enough, thinking of Honda, they are the majority of all bikes in the region. When I rented a bike in Malaysia, it was a Honda. The only time most of us do the wave around here is if you see someone you know on the road, or you happen to be out in a remote area where it's unlikely to see someone.
Two fingers down. "Keep the rubber down and ride safe...." I feel this video is a little too "over analyzed" for todays times. ✌ Thanks for the vid though! 👍
i was riding one day and sumo rider was going the other way doing the sign thing, i did not respond because it was very sudden, that guy made a u turn and chased me, telling me off!! the guy was angry his veins were sticking out of his neck; i ended up apologizing. to this day i hardly wave. btw; i am not a harley rider;i ride old UJM's
Dude... you got this wrong, at least in part. The “wave” is two fingers pointing down at road. This meant “keep both wheels down - be safe, don’t crash”. You don’t hold up a peace sign! Not at all. Can’t believe the video doesn’t reference this. I am 65, been road riding since 1971. This was never a vertical peace sign!!!
Tell me something about the culture of greeting each other when two cars meet on the road? Not a motorbike but a car the hint : a type of germany car , pls help
No. This was never a peace sign. I am 65, been riding 50 years. The sign is two finger V pointing DOWN at road, acknowledging TWO wheels not four, and meaning keep both wheels on ground, be safe, don’t crash.
You have a big mistake, the v sign started in England, while the Normans occupied the area, anyone who was caught with a bow had both fingers severed (the fingers that need to pull the bow) therefore the sign of victory is v They didn't take off my fingers
Yeah, but when did Harley guys start thinking they were too cool to wave at "non" Harley riders? F em, they're aging out and won't be around much longer anyway...
One notable Addition: the V/Peace sign isn't quite as universal;

Thanks for clarifying! This should be in there.

I remember driving my 50cc honda ruckus and someone waved at me on a sports bike, and I felt like YES finally im part of the club.
I always wave at scooters, but they rarely wave back. I figure they don't know
Saaaaame
I always do the peace sign but aimed down. And everyone else does too. A friendly gesture for sure, but I've also heard the upside down peace sign as "two wheels down" meaning be safe

I have always done the wave down because its alot easier that up.
Two fingers down, is a blessing to other riders, street riding, is great fun, but very dangerous, two fingers, two Wheels, down,
A thought a prayer, a blessing, be safe brother.
I too always do a wave, though a lot of 'harley' guys refuse to reciprocate. As I don't ride a Harley. Great video man enjoyed it.
I waved to anything on two wheels when I had a Harley. Still do on my Indian 😊
They don’t to me either and I’m on a Harley lol
I'd wave to you bro. I wave to everyone with a motor between their legs. I love my Harleys but hate the stigma tagged along with them.
Has nothing to do with Harleys's, more the attitude of the oncoming rider. I ride a Harley and would wave to a moped.
i use a variant wave for the "brothers".. that 'i got your nose' thumb fist = hog snout

In Australia there is a little nod of the head. Almost everyone except for HD riders.
Same in the UK Harley riders don't wave or nod...the two finger wave never saw that in my puff
Love the old clips and history. I always figured it represented two wheels on the ground and get home safe like you mentioned.
Yup! Two wheels on the ground is definitely a more recent interpretation of the sign, and keep safe seems to be the common theme.
It's this type of stuff that made me fall in love with this whole community. Be safe everyone

it's great to have you on board! :)
When I started riding a few years back, I was on a Honda Rebel 250. Even the Harley riders would throw the wave, sometimes before I could.
Great vid! Incredibly well put together and entertaining. Thanks!!

for me the wave says "I see you." because, as riders, we all share the fear of not being seen by others on the road
This channel should have hella more subs. Awesome content and production!
I've watched a few of your videos and they well produced and are top notch. Sub'd and will be waiting more two wheeled content.
I recon you could write a book about this. It's pretty simple, Peace, Man!
You are one likeable dude, subscribed!
Love your content it works for me even out here in australia keep up the great work 🦘🦘🦘🐊🐊🐊
Great, great job on this. Subbed.
Welcome!
That sign means (stay on them two's.)
Two fingers down. "Keep the rubber down and ride safe...." I feel this video is a little too "over analyzed" for todays times. ✌ Thanks for the vid though! 👍
Keep making videos!
i always thought of it like 2 fingers as in 2 wheels
Thanks for making this informative and interesting video 🤘🏻
Interesting, thanks for this! Safe riding!!
whats mad funny is that the priest at my local church actually rides a Harley
i was riding one day and sumo rider was going the other way doing the sign thing, i did not respond because it was very sudden, that guy made a u turn and chased me, telling me off!! the guy was angry his veins were sticking out of his neck; i ended up apologizing. to this day i hardly wave. btw; i am not a harley rider;i ride old UJM's
Amazing Channel man
Great video! I look for ward to your next one.
Been a UK biker for 47 years never seen any bikers wave to each other over here...like never must be American
It's a way to warn of danger
damn this dude makes some real good vids and somehow still haven't received enough attention.

Right

Yes. Keep it up on two.
These are great videos
Where’s the grom family ! ❤️👌🏼
Keep it up on two!
Great video bro
Great video!!!
Nice I didn’t know that. Great fuckin vid man! 💯🙌🏽
The raised fist was the way riders waved until the Black Panthers copied it.
It makes sense that the viet nam vets would flash a peace sign since those who have seen war would desire peace.
No. This was never a peace sign. I am 65, been riding 50 years. The sign is two finger V pointing DOWN at road, acknowledging TWO wheels not four, and meaning keep both wheels on ground, be safe, don’t crash.

underrated comment. This is the real invention of the V sign
"Universal" lol. Never seen it in my entire life.
Agree no way that universal I've never seen anybody wave like that ...ever
Very common in California, even on the interstate, lanes apart.
good stuff!!!
Just as long as we don't wave to the people on trikes. :D
(I'm kidding, wave to whoever you want to)
Awesome stuff. @monarchrides
2 fingers for two wheels.
I fucking hate it. It distracts me and is just pure peer pressure. I want to fucking ride.
Ride your ride.
Yeah, but when did Harley guys start thinking they were too cool to wave at "non" Harley riders? F em, they're aging out and won't be around much longer anyway...
Na, some wave some don't, not a brand thing,
0:26 is so gay!
That's a Harley rider
