  • There is no doubt that TPLO surgery is needed for dogs, however, as with any surgery, there are going to be functional changes that happen as a result.
In the case of cruciate ligament tears and subsequent TPLO surgery, the long-term effects can cause stiffness and decreased function.
When the function and mechanics of a joint change the joint can degrade quicker, and the adjacent structures in the body, such as the hips and low back can also be impacted as well.
As a result, you may notice changes to the normal activities of daily living for your dog a few years post-TPLO surgery.
In this video, Dr. Adam will discuss five signs and symptoms you can look out for to tell if your dog is having some issues as a result of past surgery.

The explanation of the body responses on how they should lower to the floor or pop up from lying down, was very helpful.

My 8 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback is experience most of these symptoms 11 weeks post op tplo (she had tplo on her other leg 2 years ago).
In your video are you suggesting to find a dog rehab center or go back to the vet? Also, on your website you have a list of supplements for joints. Do you suggest one supplement over the other for this issue? Thank you

It's hard to discuss specific situations, but in general if you are not seeing the expected post surgical results, then yes go to an alternerative centre for manual therapy/rehab. All supplements are supportive in nature and should be taken on a consistent basis, rather than as a treatment for symptoms. Hope that helps.
