"Welcome to the sixth and final step, your pet's recovery from the TPLO procedure. We're gonna break this down into six substeps, bandage and incision care, post operative medications, rehabilitation, rechecks, arthritis protocol, and is your dog still limping? It's important to note that these six substeps come with lots of opinions. Every surgeon has their specific preference for what they like to see their patient doing at specific timeframes in the post-op recovery. Here are some basic guidelines, but please refer to your specific surgeon's requests. The other thing we like to mention is that there are two major categories important to your pet's recovery in the immediate post-op period. Number one, no licking. A majority of problems we see with pets in the post-operative period is the fact that they are licking the incision. Do not trust your pet unsupervised without a barrier between their tongue and their incision. And the second thing I like to highlight is that with the TPLO procedure your pet should improve consistently. Every week you should notice that they're slightly better than the week before, and they should continue to improve. If at any time during the recovery process your pet fails to improve or suddenly starts doing worse, please notify your surgeon immediately."
