Just observed that most Americans who grew up near cities will choose cities and most who lived rural are choosing provinces. Interesting how we mostly don’t go too far from what we are used to. Thanks for sharing.
I'm Two Months into my One Year Trial in Cebu Business Park. Excluding Startup Costs... I'm "Money-ahead" of living in the US. I'm NEVER COLD, my Tendinitis TWINGES once about every Ten Days, instead of ACHING Five Days a week. My Allergies are almost non-existent. My Transportation Costs in the US were $430us a month. I'm averaging less than 450 PISOs Monthly here. NOTE WELL: I would have had "Startup Costs" in the US as well... Since I retired & was leaving the People's Republic of Kalifornia anyway.
I rarely eat out in the USA. I use uber only if I am stuck somewhere without a car. I never use delivery services - not even pizza delivery (I can pick up my pizza). I hate cities in the USA. I live on acreage with wheat across the road and corn across my back fence. I have chickens with one rooster. I don't think I would be happy in the places that make you happy.
All of the different places around the Philippines mentioned in these comments and those of us in Bohol Island/Panglao just smile and laugh because we know we are in the best place of all! I love all of the places in the Philippines but Bohol truly has it all.
I like the hole as a long-term destination, especially for people with low income or pensions I believe from a spectacular beach perspective Palawan and Boracay take the crown
@@JasperinthePhilippines Boracay is just a beach place. Bohol is an 'everything' place. Plus there are beaches around Bohol, even Panglao, that are very nice "Boracay type' beaches. Alona Beach is commercial but wonderful energy/activity/people watching plus a nice and newer international airport 10 minutes away.
Living last 3 months in Manila and just came from province from village which have around 100 people. Have great memories from childhood in Europe from European village and for me province is the best. However not yet senior and we can't yet retire and live in PH province. 2 more months in PH then back to Germany. Have a nice day brother from another mother.
Everything you said is true. Totally agree, many ex pats travel there thinking everyone and everything over there is perfect. Only to find out that is not the case. Buyer beware.
You always compare U.S to bgc but the poverty, homeless crime prostitute in America you never mention is that the reason you left America for my country of Philippines?
Recently went all around the Visayas and Palawan before that and as someone that appreciates convenience, amenities and nature I too found Bohol to be the pick. Palawan is beautiful but everything is so far from the main airport
Mega world is building a new Township in San Vicente Palawan, but it will probably be five years before all the amenities are there. They already built an international airport and a world class hospital. Longest white sand beach in the Philippines
We had strongly considered that little town San Vicente, Palawan but the problem is its still really far from any major city like Puerta Princesa. We also almost went with a lot near Clark, a very livable city with S&R, golf courses, etc. It came down to just too expensive for a lot, we would have needed a firewall for our house build the lot was so small. We are exactly 2 hours from Clark Airport and 20-30 minutes from Subic. Not my first choice, but not a bad choice. The brown outs get annoying that's why we have solar, its relatively inexpensive to install, and Starlink. I trust starlink more than other internet for reliability.
@ericlovesthephilippines The airport in San Vic was botched and they made the runway too short for normal commercial aircraft. So getting there is extremely long, hard, or costly. It is a nice town and the development plans are nice, but getting there sucks. Most people don’t know that San Vic is the biggest (most popular) surfing town in the Philippines, not Siargao.
Just got back to the states from my first two week scouting visit over there. Spent 4 days in Cebu, 2 in Alona Beach, 2 in Tagbilaran, 3 in Dumaguete and 3 in Coron, Palawan. Didn't love any of those areas. Duma was tolerable, as the girls were friendlier there than anywhere else.
MEGAWORLD IS BUILDING A LUXURY CONDO COMPLEX IN PUERTO PRINCESSA PALAWAN RIGHT NOW ONLY 12 STORIES HIGH. 5 BUILDINGS AND A MEGA MALL. BOUGHT ONE ON THE 9TH FLOOR WITH OCEAN VIEW IN THE BELLAGIO BUILDING HIHI.
I totally agree. I thought Cebu would be a city that I'd be able to live in. After a few weeks it was clear that Cebu is nowhere near Makati, BCG, Ortigas, Pasay, etc.... I like to walk, usually in the early morning and late in the afternoon when the sun is going down. I like to walk for miles, and Cebu is not a walking city. Sure you can walk around in circles in Cebu Business Park/IT park, but that's about it. Going around the rest of the city it goes from sidewalk to no sidewalk or rough roads, then sidewalk again. The infrastructure is still not there. In BGC, Makati, and the rest of Metro Manila you can actually walk on sidewalks that are dedicated to pedestrians. Sidewalks you do not have to share with parked cars, etc. The convenience is worth the extra 20% I'd save if living in Cebu

@@JasperinthePhilippines LOL, bro I get it. However, most folks don't come to the Philippines to live in a luxury apartment. I always get negative feed back from guys that want to live out in a peaceful quiet area, be able to plant, raise animals so a hermitage so Expat Hermits this is what they want. Unfortunatly I live a couple hours south of Manila and the Province life SUCKS! 14 years so far and I'd rather live closer to Manila so maybe Sta Rosa but the adopted kids and now grandkids makes that impossible right now, for sure later and you hermits can have these places. And yet these bull headed Epxats also don't want to be around other Expats and they enjoy getting milked by the inlaws that can't speak English. I'm not sure Manila has a decent Mexican resturant place though and even the Chinese food isn't so good. Decent food, delivered food good! Oh but they say I didn't come to the Philippines to eat chained resturant food... man... the food is all the same out in the province, it gets old, there's no tacos, there's no subway, (swarma Yuck!) only one Burger King and Pizza Hut far from us in Calamba, so the same chained resturants and everything closes at 7 pm maybe 8 pm except McDonalds, McDonalds has made life a littel better and they do deliver to our home along with Shakeys but I don't think KFC delivers unless you pay for Grab in our area.
Totally agree, even if you want to make tacos or enchiladas it may be a challenge sourcing the items. Working on getting the family home in the province up to standards. Went to the local hardware store to source some bathroom items, the sink and cabinet my in law bought 5 years ago is still on display. Cebu it is I guess. And don't even get me started construction help. I really can't blame them as I subscribe to the mantra, you only know what you know.
