As a preschool teacher, when we study the letter B. The kids love to make their own butter by shaking it. Then they get to eat it on a.slice of bread. We have so much fun doing. I love hearing the excitement in their voices
I was just going to write that when I was a kid, (I'm 67 now) my 1st grade teacher Mrs. Matthews, would bring in trays of 1/2 pints of milk from the cafeteria and we would make butter the same way. Shake, shake, shake it and eat it on bread or crackers! We loved it and I did it with my kids too!! 😃
I used to make butter when I was a kid, I’d use the leftover whipped cream when our family gathered for Thanksgiving and Easter at Uncle Clarence’s house. I’d just shake it in a jar or stir it in a bowl for what seemed like ages. I’m very happy to learn the expected yield from a quart, now I can do price comparisons and actually have a clue! Thank you for all you teach us. Hope your New Year is glorious!❤️🇺🇸
Sure is a lot easier with that Kitchen Aid ... I remember my Great Grandmother teaching me how to use her churn ... Said it would come in handy one day ... And it might just be someday ... But I'll follow your lead and stick with the mixer for now!
Thank You Jinnie for sharing this... I'll definitely be making some of this butter. I'm in Overdrive now trying to REALLY really hard to stock up on Everything I can think of. If anyone here is watching AP y'all know what I'm talking about... If not, y'all need to check out Alaska Prepper and his most recent videos.... Prepare people PLEASE 💚🙏 Kendra
You must have been reading my mind once again. I was talking about making my own butter. This is great. Gonna do this soon. Thanks once again. You're the best.
Thursday 1/5/23 (happy dance) I just finished making the butter. I was inspired by this video yesterday. I have almost a quart of buttermilk. I added a little salt to the butter. Thank you so very much.
4 Euros equals $4.20 American... At a pound yield per quart of cream this is an expensive way to get butter, but I'm also paying more like $6.75 per quart of heavy cream. Sacramento, California USA 🇺🇸
@@rangerannie5636 I don't know much a quart is. It almost looks like a litre of cream to me which would probably be really expensive here. We only have small cartons of cream about 270ml. For our salary/wages it can be expensive here to live.
Growing up we hand-milked cows, separated the cream and made butter/buttermilk. We were a large family and the buttermilk was used for pancakes, biscuits and cake.
Never knew it could be so easy. And a nonus of buttermilk. I want to tell you that you have helped calm my stress level immensely by calmly teaching me to self provide. Thank you.
I hadn't thought about cream being cheaper than butter. I'm going to have to price check now. I got a great sale on butter around Thanksgiving. $3.45 and I bought about 10 lbs! I froze it and I am still working my way through it!❤
You can also drink the buttermilk just add a little salt and stir. Youcan freeze it for cooking later sso you don't have to waste any. If you get a chance to get unpasturized cream you can let it sour on the counter top and get unbelievable tasty butter. That's the way we did it when we had cows
Does the butter harden like the sticks in the store or does it retain any softness? Also, if it makes a hardened stick, you could line a butter dish lid w parchment paper and shape it into sticks that way or use cute shaped molds for a fancy occasion. Dollar stores have cheap butter dishes and silicone molds.
In southern NM, we have no butter shortage but we are often jonesing for some heavy whipping cream. If you know how to make heavy whipping cream, that's a skill I need to learn ! Thanks, Ginne.
For those that can't use the buttermilk up right away, it can be frozen for up to 3 months! When ready to use, simply thaw in the 'frig overnight. If it has separated slightly during thawing, just give it a gentle whisking & it should return to its normally smooth consistency. Just keep in mind that thawed buttermilk should NEVER be re-frozen so be sure to freeze your buttermilk in "recipe ready" sizes...1/2 cup, 1 cup etc. If you plan to use your buttermilk in soup recipes that require smaller amounts, freeze it in ice cube trays before popping them out & storing in ziplock bags or other container. Each cube in the tray holds about 1 Tbsp of buttermilk so you'll know exactly how many cubes to use!
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. A while back, You made a video showing us how to make a water filter using a pot. Would you please show us again.
Coordinate your butter making with a rich soup like potato, squash, potato, etc. Then instead of messing with cleaning.the wisk. Just let the butter melt off while drawing the wishk around the soup.
I hadn't thought of buying fresh cream. Wonder if you can freeze the butter you've made. I've prepped crema to make butter with. Thanks Jinne for the information. Pray, Plan, Prep
Yes, it freezes great. Wrap it like crazy, because butter loves to pick up other smells. I had some store bought butter in the deep freeze next to a bag full of sliced leeks from last year’s garden and it smelled like onion soup. I wrote “use for garlic bread only” on it and threw it back in. Lesson learned!
Well, I’m thinking if their is a shortage of dairy, that will also include cream. Also, the buttermilk will not be the acidic cultured buttermilk that people use for baking.
Much of the time consumers are unable to find whipping cream. The last time I saw it at WM the price was around $9 for a quarter. I was not about to pay that. Today we went to a smaller grocery store. They had a name brand whipping cream for $5.63 a quart. Granted, the price was reduced because the expiration date is January 16th but I'm freezing it. I just use it for my coffee. Guess who's happy as a clam!!
Thank you Jinnie..I remember when I was young and butter churns, were almost thing of the past. My Granny, (no relation) had a electric churned, ( looked like a 2c. Food chopper)..I sat there and watched her make fresh butter with Daisy Lou's( cow) milk.. I was 4..Now, its Kitchen Aide mixer..🤣😂.. Quest I'll be getting a stand mixer.Have my Grandmothers but its not whip adaptable..🐄 ❤🌹
I had no idea that is how to make your own butter. I thought you had to use like a crock with a stick or paddle in it , which looked way to time consuming and difficult. Thank you for sharing.
Wish I had a cow for the milk, cream, butter and cheese. But I would have to stay home every day and I'm also getting older. It is harder to do stuff when you are older.
I was just wondering if they made something like those little bowl scrapers to attach to the mixer to make it easier than trying to get the product off the whisker. You've answered my question. I hope there's an answer!
Thanks Jinnie. It's been awhile since I made butter but after your video, I'll do it again. Question? How long does the butter keep and do you think it could be frozen?
Fresh butter is so good! Unfortunately for us, a lot of the heavy whipping creams at the store have added ingredients that we can't eat. I have to get the more expensive organic cream with no additives. =/ We've done it for the children to learn how to "churn" butter in a mason jar! Shake, shake, shake! When it doesn't shake anymore, it's almost butter. It's hard work, but the children love when it changes to butter. For our big family, I think we just need a cow... lol
They say you cant get what you dont ask for. So, I am asking....will someone please buy me a kitchen aide stand mixer? Ive always wanted one, but dont have the funds. Id use it all the time for my family and community.
I snagged some 36% heavy cream at the local grocery outlet-6 L at $3.49 each. But even in my 65f kitchen, with my KitchenAid, the butter melted as it formed and it was spraying melted butter all over. And that was only 1L going. I have the splash guard too. I did eventually get it made. But what a mess. The next day another “pro chef” cooking channel also had a “easy butter from cream” video and he used only 2 cups in the bowl. I’m going to try the food processor and the Vitamix next. Btw-don’t expect “buttermilk” from cream to behave like *cultured* buttermilk from the store. It will not make your pancake batter bubbly or give your biscuits any tang whatsoever. I did inoculate the buttermilk from my butter with a bit of leftover commercial buttermilk from the store in an attempt to get it to the right level of acidity to act as a leavening agent but my kitchen was too cold. Only later did I remember I actually have a packet of professional buttermilk lactobacilli I bought from a dairy supply place on eBay. Maybe on the subsequent butter-making experiments I’ll try that.

I do the same except I wash my butter to make sure I get all the buttermilk out of the butter. It lasts much longer if it’s washed. Great video!

I love making my own butter. It tastes so much better than store bought. I love it!
Wow! Jinnie thanks for sharing this. Our butter here is getting outrageous in price so I'm definitely going to try this.
I love homemade butter yum !! Thanks Jinne , you know I'm gonna make some , lol.
I love homemade also!

For people that have freeze dryers that can also freeze dry their buttermilk and have powdered buttermilk what a great idea

This looks so much easier than when my kids were home and we shook it in quart bottles. I will definitely give this a try. Thank you!!!
You are a true kitchen witch. Your gift is sharing your knowledge with others and I love it so much. Thank you !
You can buy powered buttermilk, it tastes good in different recipes .
Thanks for all you teach us! Love from East Tennessee.💞

East Tennessee too! Near Tri-Cities.

I'm going to put mine in silicone cookie molds. That will be a cute gift.
Thanks!
Can you make yogurt out of the buttermilk?
May Jesus continue to bless you and your family
Omg that's really expensive for butter. It's just under 4 Euros for a lb of butter in Ireland. Your paying almost double I'm shocked 😳

I have never made butter. But watching you. You make it look so easy! Thank you so much! Now alls I need to do is get a stand mixer.
Thank you for this. Can’t afford butter in the store, nor eggs. FJB

Butter is 6-8 a lb. In BC Canada and organic is more. The liter of heavy cream is between 4-6 so I will save some money. Thank you 🙏
Thank You for all the videos and recipes!
I am definately going to try this. Thank you.
This video was great! So helpful. Much appreciated...
Thank you so much for sharing that with us. A while back, You made a video showing us how to make a water filter using a pot. Would you please show us again.
Sams had 1 lb butter $3.68. It was all in one page, no sticks.
You can just cut it up into sticks and wrap them in wax paper.
Use clothes pins to hold the cloth from slipping
Thank you for the video of canning in regular jars. I did order the canisters. I will also try the butter. Looks easy enough.
I'm so tired, each night I feel like I get nothing done but as I reflex each night I realize I have gotten a lot done the weeks are flying by.
