Seems a bit off, different tires or inflation right to left will throw different measures I would think
He did mention correct tire pressure at least in captions on the video. Different tires will obviously make an impact but like SIZED tires with very similar tread block and shoulder profiles and tread ware will not corrupt measurements any more than variances within the same tire line. One tire being filled with nitrogen versus atmospheric air will also make some impact, while we’re at it. Moisture from air compressors will make its way into the tire, where it condenses back into water. Water will bend a connecting rod if sucked the combustion chamber before a compression stroke, it also takes up space in a tire, where identical air pressures in two otherwise identical tires besides one being filled with very humid air, and liquid water straight from the air hose sometimes after long neglect. Water doesn’t support a tire the same way air does, always settles at the bottom, and CAN cause a mild sidewall bulge, compared to the “dry” tire. That bulge is the kicker with these plates.
Will only be good enough to get you to a Wheel alignment shop.
no abnormal tire wear after 1,000s of miles and it drives straight down the road... seems ok to me.
@@mrdiyguy123 Wheel alignment needs to be measured from the wheels not the tyres. Taking a measurement of the tyres will never be as accurate, plus a good wheel alignment machine will also have wheel run out compensation.
This DIY solution that worked well for me is not for everyone Buying a commercial grade alignment machine is not in my budget..@user-fc7li1tu5e
What about the bulge at the bottom of each tire?
the typical bulge where the tire meets the road does not impact accuracy since it in no way changes the angle between the 2 plates.. What is important is for the plate to be centred and making contact with the wheel as described at @1:46.
