    A year ago I purchased a beautiful walnut slab from third coast and did the same build it turned out really nice, used the same process, but added the ceramic finish after the Rubio set up, it gave it extra sheen and protection. Great information, thanks.

    Quick tip, when using that router with the square/round base, use the round side along a straight edge fence. The reason is when using the flat side, you can have it lift away from the straight edge ever so slightly and it can ruin a straight line. If you keep the round side against the straight edge, you can rotate the router without losing contact with the straight edge and your line will stay true. Lovely table you have there. Good luck to you and your family.

    Nicely done sir. You might try using a flex shaft Dremel tool with a Kutzall burr to remove the punk wood. Also, if that doesn't go deep enough for you you can get a piece of same size steel rod and weld it to the burr shaft. You can extend the burr that way to any practical length you might want.

    We kept finding we needed a folding table. This is so easy to store. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxStL0QRChBju4aQlnTrRgBZvafFog0KU3 Opening and closing is easy as well. It has a great handle for carrying around the house. Its pretty lightweight and slides around easy. We bought it for our daughter’s first sleepover. Breakfast was a blur - but 12 7-8 year olds fit at the table with room to spare. We used it at thanksgiving and 6 adults fit comfortably on each side plus 2 on either end for a total of 8. Super easy to clean up afterwards as well.

    Yes Dremel !!! Glad at least 1 person has the IQ to use a quality reaming item for debarking pits and cavities ! There are many Dremel items or Dremel/Dremel-like bits that can be googled. Have said this to many woodworkers - even the woodturning/carving vid peeps. If need be, then get a local welder to weld on a longer shaft, and then abraid down the shaft to smooth surface - so no wobbling.

    • @johnlord8337
      @johnlord8337 2 роки тому

      Just my peeve - is filling voids with black epoxy when the cavity is big enough to pour clear and be able to see the burly wood surface and texture, while cracks and splits would be blacked.

    I was a loyal SurfPrep guy myself and could not be more satisfied... Until. the new 3M Xtract Sander was recently released. Game changer. Another thing you may have already tried; hot melt glue around epoxy pours to build a small dam. Keeps it in place and you can pour it a bit proud and knock it down with a steel. Great video. I would be intimidated by a large chunk of wood like that. I’m a luthier and have probably paid as much for a much smaller piece of some of the exotic tone wood that high end guitar companies use.

  • @cameronutube
    @cameronutube 2 роки тому +24

    I see the C channels have elongated holes to allow for shrinking and expansion, but the crossed table legs don't, this will cause the table top to crack over time as the legs screwed to the bottom of the bottom of the table in that way will restrict expansion and shrinkage. In short for longevity of original form, the table legs also need elongated holes too

    I've been a tradesman for over 20 years and I'd say you still have room for improvement on your excepting of mistakes you've made on this job. It's called having integrity. It does not matter if it's under the table out of sight. You saw it! Do better!

      Do you honestly think that the table is worth $5000.00 dollars? I don't think so..
      I mean it's a nice table and all but there's nothing fancy about it. Fancy joinery or ornateness or something...not trying to sound like a hater or nothing 🤔

    Dude, job well done. I've been playing this vid over the last few days and kept having stop for a while. So I've been watching bit by bit, you make this 'for some famous you-tuber' and kept thinking the attention to detail was excellent and someone was definitely getting a very nice product. I also didn't look at any comments so I suppose like a few others watching, I was as surprised as your wife when you told her it was for her! Awesome job sir! You all do fine work. Thanks for sharing!

    Although your work on this table far exceeds anything I could do, I sincerely advise you to watch "Blacktail Studio" before you start making things like this for your customers. I would personally be very disappointed in the C channel inserts and the fact that the cuts are not perfect. As a customer paying for a slab of wood like that I would expect perfection at every level. Great job though overall and GL in the future.

      A proper table this size and black walnut would be double the cost so they maybe got their money's worth......
      Do you expect more from people who can hardly handle their big saw, and actually make a video with chain on backwards

    I worked with epoxy for over 15 years and I'm surprised to see your pregnant wife in the same room as you working with epoxy. The dangers epoxy brings are deceptive....epoxy rarely has any odor and that deception makes it very dangerous. When I first started with epoxies I did so with little to no protection. Your skin and, especially eyes, soak up the poisons lurking in epoxy. That said, I suffered kidney failure and serious liver damage....I say that to say this: your wife shouldn't be anywhere near epoxy and you should be completely suited up with a fresh air system that pumps fresh air into a helmet from outside the shop. However, that's just my 2 cents.....the treatment and recovery time is extremely painful and a very long process.

    My name is Pat I live in Luray ,
    Virginia , That is a beautiful table you made for your wife what a guy..
    Where I live at now was my grandfather's Homestead, I'm from Maryland originally been here since 77 win the navy for 10 years, Used to come down to my grandfather's in the summer when I lived in Maryland and he had a black walnut tree that was probably 5560" around and one afternoon there was a bad lightning storm and they're known for attracting lightning from what I understand And we watched the lightning bolt hit that tree and split it right down the middle broke my heart. But once again that's a very beautiful table you have a nice business and I'll be keeping up with your channel enjoyed watching you make it

    I have watched a few of your videos and you 2 look like a nice couple. Hope the baby and mom are doing well. One word of advise for you is just use a larger drill ( 1/2 Bigger) and drill the wholes just a touch and the bures are gone. It won't make a mess of the powder coat if the Dremel slips. Keep up the good work. Cheers Bill
