I will say, however, that you're right about some of this song's quality. The guitar riff is killer...and this is one of Ed's most exciting solos during the Sam-era. It's great how he solos over the new riff during the solo section and then starts doubling the riff alongside the bass. Very heavy.
@@user-xc3vl9in8v WHAT is there to say? Objective reply about why something hasn't aged well? The Dave-era stuff still sounds great... Since it's hard to be objective about something not aging well, I'll put the following to you. I play a lot of music to my students who range from 10-14. I'm not saying this is THE answer. I'm saying this is AN answer. When I play them something like AC/DC, they love it...something that old speaks to them. Either singer (though I really prefer the Bon stuff, but I think young people actually like the Brian Johnson stuff). EVERY single year, EVERY single time I've played them Dave-era Van Halen, they always say, "This is awesome. This makes me want to listen to more old music." And EVERY single time I play them something from the Sam-era, they ALWAYS have the same reaction: "This sounds stupid." "I don't like this guy's voice." "These words are really stupid." It's always the same story. When I talk to people my age (and I'm actually much younger than the average Dave-era fan), they will always say something like, "I go rid of BALANCE years ago" or "I didn't even put OU812 on my iTunes" or "I don't bother putting any Sam-era stuff on when I listen to Spotify." Or I hear, "Those albums, I used to listen to them in the 80s and 90s, but I don't like them anymore." I'm not saying this is across the board. Michael Schutten. Many people use the phrase RIP (Rest in Peace), when speaking of someone who has passed away. But the Bible tells us that those who do not know Christ has no peace. Rather, he has the wrath of God abiding on him. Jesus said,
35 The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. 36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him." (John 3:35-36)
So, from what you know about Eddie Van Halen's life, why do you think he is resting in peace?

Nelson Cheng lol, some people never grow up.
@@bossHogOG And some people don't listen to what God says to us through the Bible.
@@nelsoncheng4638, always been thought that believers never were allowed to listen to Van Halen (to many sex, drug and rock and roll) :-)
Amsterdam was so awesome Sammy had to write a song. I'm with you Sammy. I've been there. Wow!
I'm guessing naughty is the prostitute and weed .
I love this song, I think about it when I travel to work through Amsterdam Centraal
2019 still love it Sammys voice eddies awesome fingers priceless...
Let me tell u what happened in 2020 😳
Killer guitarism, dont forget. Hard to remember in That city...
fuck I a hard TIME REMEMBERING WHERE MY hotel WAS, LOL
I have yet to visit this amazing city... if she can't... nothing else can
Thanks Wolfie for reminding me how good this is.
Van Hagar is my favorite VH lineup!
Eddie, his smile and laughter will be missed more than anything,
AVH.. The most under rated drummer of all times!
Seen Van Halen at the US Festival in 1983. Been hooked ever since. Never heard a guitar with such Clean, Crisp, Amazing Tones in those days. What song do you think Greatly exhibits his multiple Rhythm to Lead transition mastering? I listened and thought.. then realized.. all of them lol. I think "Amsterdam" does a good job of it. Eddie, I miss so much.. Your Stage Rresence, Harmonic voice and "Patented Flying Jump Kicks." Your musical talent speaks for itself. ⚡🎸
My bday eve and I’m cranking some Van Halen all the best videos they have ever made🤟🏻❤️🎤🎸🥁🤟🏻❤️🎸🎤💋🤟🏻❤️🤘🏻🎸🎤🖤
Best Van Halen song...
... said no one ever.
Yeah yeah yeah this is dogshit
One of my favourite songs with Sammy
HELL yes! I hope to go back one day,Amsterdam was awesome! This brings a smile to my face thinking about good times in Amsterdam!
Where have the years gone? These were truly some good times, and these guys were on the road.
Severely underrated track on Balance..became my favorite the first time I heard it..just a fun, no frills track with Eddie shredding it and then some.
Even by 1995 standards, this video is not "naughty". Awesome album BTW. Probably my favorite Sammy era album. Eddies tone was huge on that album.
+Guitar Whores i agree i bought that CD when it 1st came out and yea the tone from eddie's guitar to me sounded alot better, was getting there on the previous album either way they have always been gr8 to me
+Guitar Whores Mine too =)
I think Mike said something about that time about how anything goes in rap videos but VH got their video banned.
Guitar Whores AGREED . Larger than life . My go to album
Guitar Whores absolutely...I’m affraid He recorded album totally sober according To Sammy’s interview I have here...
One of the best front men. Energy in his voice and stage
Sammy raised Van Halen to new level
2 things:
1, Notice Eddie getting that Wolfgang tat? In case you don't know this was filmed shortly after his son Wolfgang Van Halen was born. :( Nice to see he didn't neglect his home life as so many rock stars do.
2. I wanna go to Amsterdam now ;)
Amsterdam was Home once to Ed and Alex too.... They were born in Amsterdam
This is an example of eddies power and imagination. Alot of people hate on eddy but no one denies his talent.
I like Eddie new guitar tone with Sammy. Especially live I love it. Just don’t like the love songs.judgment day sounds bad ass live
Only people hatin on Ed didn't know him.
@@johntrauner1401 This is true. Or understand him. I think Eddie might have been on the spectrum. But Valerie Bertinelli always loved him till the day he died and he loved her too. And his son too. So nothing else really matters.
@@jacsig Your comment is dead on Jaci . He was a goood man .
@@edwardwaldron7813 eddies amazing talent was production & rhythm. Sure his solo’s were flashy, but his right hand pick groove along with his left hand control was out of this world. Controlled chaos. And tone. Unbelievable tone. No one hits on the beats like him either. Crazy groove.
one of their best.
Before I die I Will Play This Song!!!!!!! My Favorite,,,,, Of All Time
I love the verse riff...awesome!
Van Halen was the soundtrack of my life growing up as a teenager in Hawaii🤙🏽
This is a deceptively complicated piece of music...but, pulled off with such ease. Still Living!
Great point! Eddie’s life’s work is so vast and extraordinary that it’s easy to overlook a low-lying gem like this one
Personal favorite and yes. Difficulty of this song is crazy. Vintage Eddie
@@scottgroover5079 Thanks Scott!
The way only Eddie can pull off. The man was a genius like Tesla combined with Michaelangelo.
That riff starting at 3:00 is brilliant. Hooked on that groove.
I still cannot believe he is gone...
Rest in peace Eddie van Halen
Sam's scream @4:57 is the best!
Told austin about grandmas next trip .., yeah amsterdam with max and molly and marjury hosa danni theres heaps off us 30 all together .... One of our best. Holidays ever

2020 and this song is better than ever
Wow... a visual documentary of the end of Van Halen. Things were never right again. No matter if you are Sam or Dave fan the public productivity went to zero, or nearly zero for the remaining 25yrs. So sad, powerhouse to outhouse.
Don’t tell me, one of the greatest songs ever, 3rd song on the album
Heyyyy, what a great song and at 3 52 there's Holland, - and Amsterdams most famous Tattoo Artist, Mr Henk Schiffmacher!! He decorated some of the Chilli Peppers and many other big artists too! Cool Wolfgang tat, Eddie.... RIP Maestro...
RIP Eddie! You'll be missed

I was there too sammy in the rafters of municipal auditorium...I was like 10 rows from the front...said paramedics and people took me seriously and moved out of our way till 10th row and dude said "he didnt care who was sick he been there for like 30hrs he wasn't movin" ...CLOSE ENOUGH FOR ME!!!!!!
Me and my friends 1993-1995 when I lived there.
The UPs& DOWN.s of being a Rock Star.
It appears that 54 people doesn't like Amsterdam :-(
I however, I LOVE AMSTERDAM !!!! :-)
Right now, it's up to 99 a**holes that gave a thumbs down. Probably Dave holdouts.
Amsterdam is the place to be!!!
Probably never been there. Let's keep it that way.
Some of Sir Eddies best work was on Balance. On my top 10 best records of all time. RIP. EVH
