So that was the Cox Plate of 1987. So that was the race which Rubiton won after being relegated to a surprise 3rd at its previous start with its connections going ' No way. That defeat was an anomoly which shall be corrected ', and you had Harry White venturing across the saddling paddock to unite with the fabled wonder horse, Rubiton, for the big race. And where I was at a TAB sub-agency some aged pensioner totally unloaded on Rubiton, with a whopping $ 4.00 on the nose which he handed to the teller to put on Rubiton for him.
Beau Zam went on to win the 87/88 Australian horse of the year and became the first horse to win $2 million in prize money. 25 starts 9 wins 6 placings 6 group ones.
What a field this was.
Especially compared to modern day fields from 2010 to 2019.
The fields today are rubbish compared to this.
Vo Rogue had no right to finish that close !! He was such an exciting horse and that was a crack field. Great memories
Probably would have finished a lot closer if he didn't get fired up early when he was challenged running to the winning post the first time.
Today's champions aren't in the same pool as the earlier ones. Look at how much it changed
Vo Rogue was killing the best horses in the country, he was a great horse
@@owen7185 Rubiton raced vo 4 times and beat him all 4 times.

Our Poetic Prince was so close to winning 2 Cox Plates .
Going by the clear sound of a fist hitting the table Bill Collins clearly backed Rubiton. One of his best ever calls what a legend.
