Just watched Gladiator II. It is a masterpiece! For me its up there with the original and it also add more to the whole universe. Ridley did it again. It is literally one of the greatest movies that i have ever seen and the greatest movie of the year alongside Furiosa and Dune Part 2. Nice review Zach as always. Guys, go watch this masterpiece of a movie ⚔️🔥
I often thought that the biggest mistake Ridley Scott did with the first Gladiator movie was when he wasn't a producer of the first movie so when Gladiator won Best Picture, he didn't accept the trophy for himself because he wasn't the producer. I think about this a lot as it was his close chance to get an Oscar trophy if he was the producer like he is with his recent movies. After Gladiator came out, he became a producer in just about every movie he made 😅
Scotts biggest issues are "Story interesting? Script" When he gets good ones, he is amazing; when that side sucks, his films do. Looks wise, he is still the leader of the pack; he just knows how to make the most of the money, and it looks stunning. I think only Villeneuve is close to his heels on that side of things. Really looking forward to seeing this...maybe twice.

I think this is one of those opposite reviews to drive engagement. Stellar cast and some awesome action sequences with a horrible story. It's almost good but trips over its own feet. A remake with a few more characters and a happy ending.
It’s weird that you said that you really liked “The Last Duel” but specified that he didn’t “write it”. Ridley Scott hasn’t written any of his films, good or bad alike. So just sort of weird to sort of add that caveat to “Last Duel” when it’s true for all his work.
the napoleon cut is not a kingdom of heaven cut, even far from. it does flesh out certain situations a bit more, but still way too little to make it good, it mainly does add more random uncontextualized stuff and goofy embarrassing moments and made the movie al by all even worse then the original. its a stinker and disappointment. great review though! have my tickets for tomorrow
strangely enough or, should I rather say all too predictably, almost all American reviews on youtube are overly enthusiastic - as opposed to most reactions from other parts of the world.
Imagine if they had release this movie 20 years ago i mean the casting isn't that bad denzel washington is a nice addition but if you go back we would have heath ledger or orlando bloom that could have been a great cast
This is here is proof that not everyone should be allowed to review films. If you think this is "almost perfect". I'm tempted to state that you shouldn't be allowed to watch films. My guess is you rank films like The Room, Gigli, Jack And Jill, Alone In The Dark, Blade: Trinity, Fant4stic, etc, quite highly, right? 🤔
Respectfully disagree with this review. This film is a retread of the first film while also being inferior in every aspect to said original. Visually alone this film is over reliant on CGI that is mediocre to poor. Not to mention Paul Mescal is seriously miscast
it was so not almost perfect, that it even made the original less enjoyable to watch, cuz after all, whatever heroic act Maximus did int the first one, it did not matter at all, Rome descended into chaos almost immediately after the first movie
