Thank you for yet another great video Dr. B. I don’t think doctors are trained much in sleep medicine and the like. When I went to my GP last Spring for a bout of insomnia, he made me feel like I was telling him I was growing a unicorn horn. Left me feeling hopeless and really disconcerted. Our doctors need to be trained more on this stuff!
Sadly I have a combination of all of the issues you talk about. I have Chronic Neuropathic Pain, which give me insomnia and depression. Lots of this is chicken and egg. Pain causes depression and insomnia. Insomnia causes depression, depression causes insomnia, and lack of sleep is also caused by the pain.
I have terrible insomnia, and am working on it. I began watching this video to see if I might find some new insights. Sadly, and ironically, I fell asleep watching it. 😴
The sleep deprived and depression are a super bad combination. In my case I did some crazy things that I don’t think I would have it I had been able to sleep
I'm epileptic... had a seizure when I was a baby... recently had two attacks two years ago... started taking antiepileptics... one of the secundary effects was depression and anxiety... took a lot of time to just get into a space of mind to kinda lower the anxiety... my doctor said that I need to run at least due to the high amount of drugs on my body... The last exam they did to my brain was analysed and the doctor said that I can have an attack at any moment even with medications so I will probably have to take these for the rest of my life. Now working with a doctor as well due to my sleep... Your videos also help me out a bit... I kinda know that I might have insomnia here and there even if my body is already adapted to the medication... I just calm down, try to relax when I wake up early and go back to sleep again... I try to raise my melatonin levels before bed time. Sometimes a supplement will have to do the job... Also my mom doesn't sleep well... So, there is that... Just gotta keep working on it... Thanks for all the videos doctor
I watched to answer whether I have clinical insomnia or if it's induced insomnia from another condition, hoping that I don't have clinical insomnia. From hearing this information I think it's likely that my insomnia is induced from my depression. The worse my mood got the worse my sleep became, and vice versa. But in the beginning I think it started with depression and anxiety. Luckily I've already been getting help for that, and I have some hope that implementing a better sleep routine will also make me feel better mood wise and that I will have more energy from better sleep, which will also elevate my mood.
When I was growing up, I trained myself to be hyper-alert. My crazy environment was unsettling to say the least. Now that I’m much older (over 65) I still feel as though I need to stay on guard even though I try meditating and other relaxation techniques. Other than a lobotomy, I’m not sure if this can be changed in my case. Posting this won’t help me, but maybe someone out there can identify and know you’re not alone.
What about something like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or something like that? I think it helps you change the feedback loop or something of the like. Edit to add: I promise I'm not trying to insinuate that you haven't tried to help yourself. I'm just wondering if this is an angle you've tried yet. Please don't take offense. ❤
Finding a therapist who is actually trained for CBT insomnia. Easier said than done. I am a senior and years of chronic insomnia I am ready for a lobotomy!!! Tired of suggestions when good geriatric therapists are rare, along with geriatric psychiatrists. I listen to Sanjay Gupta very informative.
Where are you located and do you take Medicare patients? My sleep dr. just slapped a bipap on me and tossed off my horrible tiredness, headache and dizziness.

This is so useful. My husband's definitely hyper alert.

Supplementing 6g of taurine and 800mg magnesium glycinate doses throughout the day has completely fixed my hyper vigilant issues
So I should take my magnesium throughout the day. Worth a try

@@JillyBean_1987 A great idea! I’m in therapy but it may be time for a more aggressive therapist. I appreciate your reply.

Help
Yes I identify
Any suggestions or advice for someone experiencing insomnia due to hypnic jerks?
one thing that causes this is poor sleep quality or quantity, so maybe its time to talk w a sleep specialist?
Wish my sleep doctor was as good as your videos.
We are always here to support you! 😊
Do you do phone consultations?
Hi Dr ,do you do consultations a
Yeah, but I don't want to contact my physician because every time I do that it ends up costing me an arm and a leg and I have insurance.
So what was the number 1 again? (Not sure this ever got answered).

Sleep. What's that. Zero. Seriously 😢
Good luck with that
