I was so moved by this film. Just a good old-fashioned dramedy with great writing, and great performances especially from DevineJoy Randolph. One of the best Christmas movies I've seen.
I saw The Holdovers at an early screening near the end of October and it was fantastic, one of my favorite films of the year so far. I loved how it captured the 1970 setting, the screenplay is terrific perfectly balancing comedy and drama and the performances are fantastic especially from Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and newcomer Dominic Sessa. One of Alexander Payne’s best films since Sideways.
Curious to check this one out, won’t be able to in theaters tho. I saw I can already rent it on streaming tho, so I know I’ll check it out soon. I wonder if it’ll end up high on my list of films this year.
This movie is quite difficult to find in theaters, which is a HUGE bummer. But I'm very glad to see that we've got a great movie in an otherwise shaky year for movies.
Hey Sean! Just wondering, how do you determine what movies you give a full review on the main channel, and what ones you have shorter reviews for on here? Is it the ones that you didn’t have time for a full review for as soon as they came out, so then the shorter reviews come here?
It's very much a matter of time. Like Napolean and Thanksgiving I would have liked to review on the main channel. I just didn't have time to create the videos. Sometimes just essentially UA-cam business. I only want to post one full length video per day. There's only so many days per week and I need to pick the videos which will perform the best (which also mean people are most interested in). In the case of The Holdovers. Since I really liked it I wanted to talk about it, but it's not a video likely to do well on my main channel. With this recent set of small release these are all clipped out from my November movies ranked video. It's a bit of an experiment to see how they perform. Different people consume content in different ways. Some want a 40 minute video talking about 15 movies. And some people just want the 3 minutes about hte movie they're interested in. It's all kind of trial and error. Trying to cover as much as possible while also tryin to play the youtube game.
when i finally get to see it alone...im gonna have me a nice cry. my favorite thing about the movie is you assume its one thing--the literal meaning of holdovers in the movie--and then it became this social politcal existentual holdovers the forgotten among us. the forgotten pieces in us that we throw away but are so essential to who we are as humans.
I saw this in theaters during the break! I absolutely loved it! I teared up near the end! One of the best movies of the year, Giamatti better get an Oscar nomination! ❤
A total DISGRACE that the incredibly talented Dominic Sessa was overlooked by The Academy for his truly remarkable film debute. There is no movie without him. Paul Jiamatti has nothing and no one to "play off off" if not for Sessa's character. Let's face it...Sessa's performance has afforded Giamatti the adulation and awards that should be shared/bestowed upon this talented young actor. His elimination from this year's Academy's nominations is just another example of the corruptness, nepotism, favoritism and political correctness that pervades that town and movie industry. It's still "who you know", "who you screwed", "who your family is", " what politically-correct COLOR you happen to be", "how much of your soul you've traded for stardom", etc. Disgusting!
I think we need more great dramadies, well good ones, really looking forward to this movie. Heard so many great things about it.
My new Christmas movie to put on each year from now on. Loved this movie.

Going to see this now. It wasn't on my radar but now i'm really looking forward to it!
Paul Giamatti for the win.

So glad this movie came to your theatre because it hasn’t come to mine yet
You can rent it at home now. I was sent a whole package from the studio since it's a awards contender.
Yeah. I dug it. Just finished watching it.
Such a great movie, one of the best of the year

Paul Giamatti gives easily one of the year's best performancesl

My favorite movie of the year! Maybe favorite overall! Excellent movie ❤
This is this year's Licorice Pizza, a critics' darling, but it is not going to see a winning awards season.
Loved it
I may see The Holdovers eventually.

I heard they use old 1970 movie cameras to film this movie that to me is what made this movie so great to
It’s a legit 10/10
Excellent Review 😅
meh
Horrible movies. Not Oscar worthy for sure.
