W saw it last Saturday night and loved it! A return to old school filmmaking. Took me back to my childhood in the 70's. Moody. Atmospheric. Brilliant film.
Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, OY OY OY!!! Good to see you chewin down on our down under Straya candy bars Chris! (we just call them chocolate bars usually, just like soda vs soft drink). Violet Crumbles aren't my favourite, but another great one of ours is the Cherry Ripe - highly recommended if you like cherries and/or coconut. I love nuts, so am more likely to go for a Picnic or Snickers bar myself :).
I loved Paul Giamatti’s performance in this movie. Probably the best of his career. Before seeing the Holdovers though my favorite role of his was John Adams.
I'm so glad this is already available to stream, because I think all the new movies dropping in the next week will push this out of theaters. One of my favorite Giamatti movies is 'American Splendor'. He molded the ordinary into a charming, delightful and funny character.
I've never seen American Splendor, going to add it to my list! I think you're right that this will get nudged out because of all the upcoming releases.
I agree that it is somewhat slow at times, but I was ok with this simply because I enjoyed being in this world with these characters and we don't see these kinds of movies that take their time as much anymore.
This movie captured the look and feel of the time period wonderfully. But I thought there would be a larger cast of the students interacting with Giamatti for a longer portion of the movie. I felt pretty bored through about 1/2 of the movie. I'd give it 5/5 on how it looks and 3/5 for entertainment value.
holy smokes. You gave Leave the world behind 5 couches and its one of the worst movies ive ever seen and the Holdovers which is easily the best movie of 2023 only 4.5??! come on get it together. I'm not trying to be mean but this us utter insanity
In the time where movies that get any hype are big budget superhero films I'm glad a movie like this exists
Love this movie. I didn't want it to end.

Totally agree with your review. I like your statement "no violence" cause they weren't fighting.
Nice review Chris. Merry Christmas to you and your family 💝
Thank you! Merry Christmas to you also!!

He was excellent in that!!
Excellent movie that made me feel good. Favorite Giamatti role? The Rhino!

Sideways is my favorite Giamatti film. Great review!
I watched this movie 2 days ago and I found it delightful. Liked it way more than Sideways. A fantastic holiday film 🎞 🎅🏻🎄
One of the moviest movies I've seen for ages

My favorite Giamatti roles were from John Adams, Win Win, and Donnie Brasco.
I love this movie and hope it goes far in the award season!
I liked this movie but I think it could be better if it would be at least 30min shorter. It felt sometimes a bit long.
Funny enough I think my favorite Paul Giamatti movie is John Dies at the End 🤣
I enjoyed this movie.
Nice.
