I bought Automata back in 2017 when I bought my PS4 but just finally got around to playing it I think in 2020 or 2021. I should have played it sooner tbh because it's such a great game.
yup i remember when the trailer came out, i was damn excited, since i played the first Nier. Everyone else i knew had no idea what Nier was about.. Lets just say after the demo, that all changed xD
I played NieR: Automata twice, and the second time was during a break-up. The songs took on a different meaning, especially this one. Today, I only have good memories about the OST and the entire game. Thank you!
I finally played NieR Replicant and Automata this past summer (started with one, played a bunch of stuff in between, ended with the other) and they are not overhyped in any way, they’re absolutely both must-plays for everyone with any level of video game “literacy.” This is an awesome cover of an incredible song. I really love it when you do acoustic stuff, I think that “Good Riddance” from Hades is also one of my personal favorites that you’ve done. :D
I like the way you use the word "literacy" for games like this; it really means you need to see video games in another level of understanding, more than just having a joystick and play, they must be another kind of experience to witness that can move your feelings.
@@tenshi-sensei Every game can be broken down to 'push buttons 10,000 times to win', what changes from game to game is what those button presses do, and how much enjoyment you'll get from doing it. Both Nier games elevated the 'game' to practically an 'art', making you emotionally invested in what happens, and since you're in control of it, it's a different feeling than a movie would offer. Games are not their own 'art' though, they literally borrow pieces from other arts : graphics, music, and screenplay/camera work among others. But games like these are masterpieces of putting these together in the perfect way. Nier is not the first nor the last game to manage to hit that bar, Metal Gear Solid did it pretty specularly back on PS1, given the limits of the system.
@@FranckKnight I personally love games that explore the area of games that inspire different feelings and emotions than just "fun". I really appreciate how Nier isn't afraid to give you some commonly thought negative experiences that are usually avoided like the plague in games, or used to detract points from a score as they don't inspire "fun" or or frustrating so therefor shouldn't be in a game. I don't think the ending would hit anywhere near as hard if the game was trying to avoid you feeling frustrated.
@@FranckKnight (Maybe little spoilers) So you know the boot up sequence in Nier Automata? Whatever you do in Route A is actually recorded and you have to sit through it in Route B. I sat through the experience of my past self being an ass to my current self. No movie can match that for sure
Crazy to read in the description that this is Elana's first performance on camera. She's such a natural performer. Great cover and great singing from Elana.
I'll never get sick of hearing covers of this song. Elana did a great job! I hope she's open to more songs in the future, either working with you or just doing her own recordings and videos.
People say that in Persona 5's "Days When Mother Was There", the guitar solo sounds like the music crying. When the solo started in this, I got the exact same feeling. It sounded like the guitar was crying out
YESSSSS 👏 I actually never thought about a cover you've already done. Wasn't expecting this but as soon as I saw the title, I was so excited. Amazing job and welcome Alana to the channel 👍
i always love the acoustic guitar sounds on this this song, so i was already liked it. i liked how more instruments came into play and when 3:47 happened i was completely blown away! Elana sounded so amazing, this is now on my top favorite version Weight of the World!
oh thank god, I was getting worried you were going to add in a huge chorus of people and I'd just start ugly crying. This is still beautiful, thankfully.
Everything that lives is designed to end. They are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. However...life is all about the struggle within this cycle. That is what "we" believe.
this song is really suitible to our broken world and times. 2b and 9s steel keep fighting even they can't see any hope. that is what we are doing right now.❤
This is a beautiful cover i love it so much❤ welcome to the channel Elana your voice is as beautiful as you are i liked the cover with Caleb but this version speaks to my heart thanks for the giod cry jules
I've never actually heard the lyrics version, just the instrumental one from FFXIV's Nier crossover raids. I clicked through expecting an instrumental guitar only and now I'm blown away.
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful! I haven't played NeiR yet, I know I need to, but I've really fallen in love with the soundtrack from covers on UA-cam. And this is one of the best. Thank you so much!
For this being the first time her voice has been recorded. IMO you could swap the vocalist in the original song with Elana and it'd still hit the same, very well done
Well which version as there's four versions. An English with J'Nique Nicole. The French version Emi Evans, the original singer and writer of the song. Then theres the one with Marina Kawano in Japanese. Then there's one with all three of them together.
Been a fan of your covers since you basically started the channel and this one was awesome too. This song is always such a slap in the feels and this cover certainly did, nice job, you and Elana both.
I only started learning how to play guitar a month ago & I'm documenting my journey on here but I'm looking forward to the day when I can play this well!
Yo sé que autómata es el más reconocido de la saga, pero poco se habla del Nier original y su banda sonora y canciones que también son una completa joya en su conjunto, la de Kaine salvation es buenísima. Por cierto buen cover 😅👏🏻👏🏻
Fuck man, the end of yhora version of this song made me cry so fucking much in the moment, genuinly one of only 2 moments i have ever cried at a game, god i love this game
This song came up in my release radar on Spotify, I knew I had heard it and kept thinking FF14, but the album art didn't show an FF14 character, then I finally remembered, it's 2B and I heard the song in the Nier Automota crossover raid series in FF14.
Nier music makes me feel alone and like the world is ending. 10/10 I loved the games they really give you a world feel unlike anything else. I want to replay and enjoy games like Nier and Witcher again but as I am getting in my mid-late 20s I feel like I am getting Pepega ADHD brain.
Fun fact, NieR: Automata is the only game that's made me downright sob (only reason it's not my favourite video game ever made is because it's so narrowly beaten by Untitled Goose Game)
"Do you think video games are silly little things?"
Yes
*>No*
I do quite the sillyness of the games, it's what makes the impact hit harder
This was such a beautiful cover!! 🤩 You all did amazingly! 👏🏼
Hard to think that this is starting to be a 'blast from the past' song.
I'm so glad Nier Automata got this popular and we can all reminisce like this.

@@BradleyDS90 Just knowing there's a other human right now thinking about this game and it's OSTs feels nice for some reason

NIER replicant fucking sucks and automata is overrated. you think these games are good because the medium sucks ass in general at telling a story.

As a Nierd, this is Nier perfection.

It warms my heart to see you both performing together, this came out great! You guys got me nostalgic and sappy about college days now 🥹
This song moves me to tears every time.
Great job to you and Elana!
Funnily enough, because of the cover you did with Caleb, my brain always expect the tone to switch to heavy metal.
oh thank god, I was getting worried you were going to add in a huge chorus of people and I'd just start ugly crying. This is still beautiful, thankfully.
The 101 min long vid brought me here, ❤ this might be the most comforting song ever....Elana we want more of you!

When I looked at the title I had a feeling I would be crying listening to this. God, what a powerful cover
OH HELL YEAH THIS IS SO GOSH DARN RAD EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS VIDEO SHOULD FEEL SO GOSH DANG DARN PROUD AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
this song is really suitible to our broken world and times.
2b and 9s steel keep fighting even they can't see any hope.

A beautiful rendition of a timeless song. Great job!
I remember listening to Replay (2014) when it was released, this just brings me back so good memories. 🦋
Such an emotionally powerful song, and you both killed it, nice!
Amazing cover! The melody was great, and Elana sang it so beautifully! I hope to hear more in the future!
6 years later and this song still hits those feels just as hard
One of my favorite games of the last decade. The beautiful music is one of the many reasons. Thanks for the cover.

Played Automata for the first time past year, one of the best gaming experiences I ever had.
I've never actually heard the lyrics version, just the instrumental one from FFXIV's Nier crossover raids. I clicked through expecting an instrumental guitar only and now I'm blown away.
Such a nice suprise. Love this song

this song fills me with an immense melancholy, great job!

People sleep on this game's OST and I will never understand why. An absolute masterpiece of a composition!
Awesome job guys!

one of the best ost in gaming history
hell yeah, love this song. i'll be listening to this on repeat for a while
Oh, wow, goddamn. Tell Elana that she has got some serious pipes, and she should have been recording her voice all this time already!

you should do the larry boy song from the old cartoon

You both did great! Sending this to my Frenchman, he loves Nier.
I'm really not used to hearing this in English (Chaos language being my favourite), but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a great cover^^
beautiful 😩
Really enjoyed this!
Omg this is soo cool
I just got home from work and had to poop, but I ended up listening to this whole song while holding my poop because it was so good.
