- 1967's DMU (Diesel multiple unit) is still intact at Rawalpindi locomotive shed,
its manufactured by Hitachi corporation Japan and these Diesel multiple units were imported in 1967,
total number of DMU's were 34 and the quantity of passenger trailers were 94,
Pakistan Railways operated these as railcars from its major Railway stations,
most likely these were run between
Rawalpindi to Lahore, Rawalpindi to Peshawar, Rawalpindi to kundian, Lahore to Multan etc,
these were called Railcars or rail car,
most of the daily customers used to love these railcars to travel, these rail cars were very popular and punctual and also very comfortable,
the operation of these DMU,s were very successful and it used to be the first priority of passengers to travel by these DMU,s (railcars)

I travelled in these railcars several times from Lahore to Rawalpindi when I worked in Islamabad during mid 1970s. One left at 7 a.m from Lahore and the other at 4:30 p.m. It took 4 and a half hours from Lahore to RWP. The fare was Rs. 14 then increased to 24 rupees with time.
Thanks for watching Sir
Great Video, aap nay bachpan ke yad taza kr de , hum log iss DMU pr Rwp sy Narowal, Sialkot Jaya krty thay, I remember k driver cabin ka door passenger side ke taraf bhe khulta tha.
Thanks for watching and commenting
I travelled it from Lahore to Wagah. I was also used to travelled Musa Pak made by its trailers from Lahore - Multan - Lahore during 1988-90.
I am convinced that use of such DMUs should be operated by private sector for inter city routes while railway should focus on long destinations, the best solution for today's travel hassle.
Thanks for watching sir

@@ankurthakur9834 It was our Railway that destroyed them, Subuk Raftar from Lahore to Rawalpindi was forwarded to Peshawar and on its return, it was sent to Lahore while the one coming from Rawalpindi (Subuk Kharam) was dispatched to Multan and on its return from Multan it was sent to Rawalpindi so in this way the poor railcar only six hours of rest at night and the other day the same story was repeated. The railcars decayed rapidly during their warranty time because of the abuse use them.

These railcars have so much beautiful memories in my school/college age. Used to go Lahore to Rawalpindi and back with my family.
This is an historic train. This rail car was also operating from Rawalpindi to Jhang via Lalamusa and I travelled many times on this railcar from Rawalpindi to Mandi Bhauddin in 1970s. Moreover my elder brother was Foreman of this railcar workshops in Rawalpindi during70s, who worked hard for success of this train. What a beautiful train was this railcar. In those days it’s seats were very nice. Watching this video reminds my earlier/young age. Thanks for this effort.

Glad you enjoyed it
If I remember correct, the initial railcar units were imported from West Germany. The Japanese Hitachi models followed a couple of years later. The basic shape was the same as the former.
Is railcar par buhat deluxe journey thi. Jab bhi doran e safar engine operating cabin mein koi staff ata jata tha to buhat roaring sound ata tha generator ka. Thanks for uploading such a unique clip Faheem sahib.

These things are national treasures & need to be restored. Pak Govt should create a railway museum like we have in India for the young generation who are oblivion to these master pieces.

Bachpan yaad aa gaya. I used to travel to Lahore with my father during vacations or other occasions.
Thanks
@@SitesandSounds I would also like to add that this railcar comprised of 3 coaches Viz one runner and two trailers, one AC and one non AC. Further more, if I correctly remember, prior to Japanese railcar , German railcars were procured by Pakistan Railways.

If I correctly remember, Maiden RAILCAR SERVICE began in mid of 1964 between RWP-LHR 6 a.m LHR-RWP 3 p.m with a single trailor, later on 2-3 trailers around 1970s. I frequently commuted by RAILCAR between RWP-LHR-RWP on weekends/vacations during my school/college days 1960-1970s. I did, once happen to stay in-side CAR CABIN for a while during my travel in the close of 1960s and felt so excited. I preferred to travel by RAILWAY than ROAD TRANSPORT mostly during my youth/SCOUTING-IN-PAKISTAN ACTIVITIES (1960-1980s). I still like to travel by train, indeed!
Thanks a lot for your time sir

Pakistanis wakeup. This is a treasure, I'm sure this diesel engine can be refitted. Replace old batteries for crank start.
As for hydraulic transmission, it needs a through inspection.

I hope that PR has preserved at least one of these in operating condition? Would be good for "Railfan" tours, in Australian DMU tours book out months ahead, very popular here. Hitachi built quality rail cars. Are they hydraulic or traction motor propelled? Neat little unit, good video, thank you!
Thanks a lot
I myself will must ask to Railway minister to restore it at least for screening purposes,
This is 2 stroke 600HP mechanical driven DMU
Total number of locomotives were I think 26 and trailers were 90,
A DMU used to pull 4 trailer rake
very pleased to see it.

I had travelled in Master (driver's cab) in the early 80s from Rawalpindi to Sialkot. It was amazing.

Great videos, and great memories. Travelled in this and allied cars mostly between Lahore and Rawalpindi. Railcar name still brings lot of memories. Impressed by its very wide windows with broad view. Keep up the great work. I travelled to Quetta in early 90s with school trip and once with Uncle. I remember seeing locomotives exclusive to Baluchistan. Here I found about them searching online. I hope you can trace them and make some video about them and why they were only used mostly in Baluchistan.

These DMUs (a.k.a. Rail Cars) plied between Rawalpindi and Kundian till early nineties. My paternal uncle was train driver at Kundian. I have had the privilege to enjoy the cab view. My question is that why the journey of such an exotic and futuristic-looking rail inventory suddenly came to an end in Pakistan?

Due to unavailability of spare parts & the higher running expenses
I travelled in this rail car on 29th October 1975 from Rawalpindi to Gojra'n'wala and in those days its departure time from Rwp to Lahore at 7.30.am the date i remembered as it was the marriage ceremony of my matennal cousin my parents were not intend to take me as i was too naughty but my sweet Nana abu took my responsibility either He bought return tickets for me and i still remember the one way fair was 7.50 rupees from Rawalpindi to Gojra'n'wala
