As happy as I am to see RoR getting more games. I feel this is the first step on the path to the series dying in a dumpster fire.
NGL the first DLC already felt disconnected from the rest of the game. This was one of my favorite games of all time and I have played only twice since the new DLC. It just doesn't feel like it was created with the same creative direction as the base game. After the disappointing DLC, hearing they sold out to Gearbox of all companies, I've given up on enjoying this anymore.
@@JayceBrinkmanthat’s because the first dlc was designed to be a bridge from 1 to 2. I thought the sandcrabs being corrrupted as well as ror1 commando was badass and really fleshed out what the mysterious void fields were part of. There’s a lot of places for more content, especially regarding the ancient lemurian civilizations, or nkahuna, or even a lot of the item descriptions
@@titan1umtitanHuh. I was unaware. I never played the first game. The explanation of more locations is cool but I liked the mystery. The trailer for the next dlc looks possibly good but we'll see. I still think dlc 1 just feels like a totally different game and made the game worse though.
Eh, to be fair I don't think there's really anything they can do to actually Kill the game. I mean, it's not like we can't just ignore what Gearbox does and just keep modding. I'm a bit optimistic, but even if it ends up bad there's gonna be passionate people developing the game regardless.

watching this and hearing about "the next 5 to 10 years of this franchise" talked about in the dev diary felt like someone driving a metal stake through my skull. they're really gonna milk one of the best indie roguelikes ever made until its dryer than a desert
To be honest I much prefer the game as it is right now and let modding community do their thing. Games doesn't have to get constant update for a decade to be a classic. More doesn't always equals to good.

Nice announcement, but I can't help but feel like this is just the first symptom of the Gearbox purchase. The other stuff announced today is great, RoR Returns looks fantastic and is something I'm gonna buy sooner rather than later, Survivors of the Void being on console is a great thing (and with any luck the performance didn't tank, maybe it even improved but I'm probably being way too hopeful), and Seekers of the Storm has potential to be another solid DLC for RoR2, but this looks like a decent RoR mobile game with all the downsides of being a mobile game. It looks good for a mobile game and pretty alright as a PC/console game, but it's a F2P mobile game, and while normally I'd be pretty neutral towards it, this is the first sign of a beloved (former) indie series going more corporate, which is really disappointing. I won't blame Hopoo for selling since they probably want to be more than JUST the Risk of Rain guys (and Gearbox probably offered a hefty payout for it), but I WILL blame Gearbox for doing stuff like this.
If this has to exist to get more games like Returns and 2's new DLC, then I'd say it's worth it. This is optional, after all.
As long as they don't tie up the lore in gacha mobile games I'm good.
@@Skyfecta I’ll agree with you there, provided the team Gearbox has working on the “real” games can make a competent game. If we’re getting iffy mobile games and iffy console/PC releases, I’m gonna be annoyed at best. If we do continue to get great releases without predatory microtransactions, this is a sacrifice I’m willing to accept for the foreseeable future.

Besides this trailer and other announcements, you haven't even seen or heard anything of the game itself. You are shaping your own reality as to what the game is going to be like to then hate on. Granted, past events from other gaming companies alike have given us justified worries but still.... relax. Only time will tell. Not this pre-emptive "but other games" judging.

Making a mobile gacha game right after acquiring the IP sends a bad message. Gearbox will have to work really hard to prove to fans they actually care about the Risk of Rain franchise and not just the money they can get from it.
Maybe this game will be high quality for what it is, and the monetization will be fair, or maybe it’ll be a soulless cash grab. Either way, it’s already made Gearbox even less trustworthy in the eyes of a lot of fans.
We're still getting DLC"s for risk of rain 2, you guys are overreacting for no reason, if you dont want to play the mobile game, just dont play it, we can just stick to our lane and enjoy our pc content while they appeal to the people who enjoys those sorta games.

A corporation can't just buy a great indie property and continue releasing great stuff that follows in its legacy. A corporation has to expand the property into something more profitable until the bubble hits and it takes the property behind the shed and shoots it.

I can't think of a single genre that is more incompatible with monetization than roguelikes/lites.
The game is going to tank, and then the investors will complain the franchise isn’t profitable enough and want it put out to pasture.

Honestly, with the music definitely not sounding like RoR 2 and being super simplified, and the team Frima handling it, i wonder how Chris felt about this and if he chose to stick with the DLC instead.

If we can just buy this game and make the hero gambling an actual game mechanic instead of a monetization scheme, then this might revive mobile from the dead. If they want us to buy heros or gamble on them, then I'll just buy Risk of Rain instead and not play what should be a good game. Mobile doesn't deserve to be bad, hope they make a good example instead of a whale fisher.

Gearbox was such a horrible decision. People tried to stay optimistic when they bought the IP but I knew it was bad news. Screw you, gearbox.
i'd be pretty neutral to mobile games but c'mon, it's gearbox. the whole feeling eminating from this trailer doesn't seem to be a game full of love or passion meant to be genuinely fun, it seems like some throwout free to play scam to milk this franchise of all of the money it can milk before it digs it's own grave. i already know they picked the mobile game market for the reason of microtransactions and other money. I'm definitely not exited for the mobile game.
Well I sure hope Hopoo's payout was worth it. At least they were smart enough not to do a Blizzard and announced this alongside DLC for RoR2.

Ive loved the franchise since 2013 and its left an inpact on me ever since then. While the new DLC and Returns (the latter still done by hopoo) are awesome, seeing this cash grab gacha is equal parts expected and worrying.

My disappointment at this being a telephone game is immeasurable.
I played this game almost as soon as the beta started and made sure I was logged into my google play and after playing a couple days the game reset my character back to the very start. I got railroaded by the dumb tutorial before I could even contact support and after finally contacting support it took me OVER A MONTH of talking to the support and repeating myself 4-5 times and then yesterday they FINALLY restored my character and offered me absolutely 0 compensation for all the hassle and wasted time they caused. It wasn't fun. For that reason I am actively warning people DON'T PLAY THIS GAME. The devs obviously don't care and if they mess up your game progress it will take you forever to get it back and they will treat you like you messed up. It was the worst mobile support experience I have ever had and that says alot because I play and rate a ton of games.
They spent all their resources gettin yall back your accounts. o7 we owe u our thanks
