I started knitting 2 years ago, so I am continually setting new goals for my knitting, so that I can progress. I don't really do that for crochet, since I've been crocheting for decades. But, I've been considering trying mosaic crochet...thanks for the encouragement.
I’ve been wanting to start selling patterns and have been struggling with feeling bad about the things I make! I’m also just scared to take that step. Thank you for this video. It showed up right when I needed it most.
Glad I could help! I just watch a video from a day or two ago from The Snugglery on how to start selling patterns. It was a good video and might be able to help give u that extra push!
Long time viewer. First time commenter. I need a push to start a website to sell my finished projects. Currently have 25 hats/beanies ready to go and bunch of other stuff. I’ve been playing small. Website makes me nervous.
It is always fun to hear your point of views! As for me I rather think in terms of what do I need in my wardrobe this season? And dont think so much in terms of this year. Since I , like everybody else, has limitited resources I have a wishlist for the yarn I want to buy this mounth and the next etc After that I decide the pattern that fit my needs. Now its soon winter so I will make a woolcardigan. Now I both try the new yarn and a new crochetpatern, so I try something new to crochet. So this has been on my wishlist for a while and now I finally been able to try it out. So I have no idea yet if it will fit me. Well its ok if it doesnt work out, then I can frog it and make something else.
One of my crochet goals for next year is a temperature blanket. Never have done one but want a good and unique pattern. But I really need to step up my game on my non- crochet life. Need to challenge myself more. Thanks for the push.
I love making Japanese knot bags and want to sell them. I’ve had marginal success at markets with hats etc but want to sell in stores. I get such a kick putting colors and textures together.
You were just talking about a blanket? A few years ago, during the pandemic, my sister asked me if I could crochet a blanket for her bed. I made one for queen size and used 14 skeins with single stitch. It turned out beautiful, and she mainly uses it in the winter.
I literally just got done knitting my first sock. It was hard, and took me over a year because I kept putting it in time out. But, I finished it, it looks great and I'm on to sock 2! I feel like I can do anything now!😂😂😂 colorwork maybe? Something with crochet? Lol
I feel like your videos seem to be in sync with me progress 😅 I just ventured into different wearables. I made an asymmetrical shawl from a rectangle that came out pretty ok and I’ve been wearing it a lot 😅. I got brave and started another one but following a wave pattern. I didn’t think I could do it but here I am 😅 thank you for your encouragement and motivation.
I am a knitter who picked up crochet this year. I found it to be so easy to pick up compared to knitting and it's so fun and so worth it. Anyone who is considering trying it absolutely should
I sort of want to open a small Etsy shop. I make market bags and have given them to just about all of my family and friends. I've sold some, but have a pretty good stock supply. I'm retired now, so I could devote the time to it...Just unsure how much time and work it would actually be. Ugh...So on the fence.
The cost to start one is next to nothing so the risk would be low, just your time! I recommend binge watching A Crafty Concept videos on Etsy selling, she will give you so much great advice!
Since it's getting cooler, it will be nice to be able to crochet my prayer shawls for church. We had such a hot summer this year, it was hard to pick up that crochet hook! I enjoyed this video. 😊❤
It’s so clear from your last few videos how much you’re learning to think bigger and aim higher yourself. Good work! I’m pretty experienced at crochet but I recently set out to make my first adult-sized sweater. I did plenty of upfront work planning and swatching, etc, but as I started on the stitching this week I really started second guessing all my plans. This is encouragement to remember that I know what I’m doing and to keep pressing forward.
I need a little push to make a wearable and, by that I mean something you have to measure-a sweater, a pair of socks. I also actually knitted one half glove-I was learning to knit, maybe 3 or 4 years ago-I need to nudge myself to pick that up too. I want to move from my comfort zone and challenge myself-I keep saying mañana😇
As I started watching this video, I instantly knew what the sign meant to me: I need to try my first Tunisian crochet project! I've got Tunisian style hooks and everything but have been somehow hesitant to get started
I'm excited for your big plans. Can't wait to see what you've spun and the results from dying your own yarn. Kudos to you for all that you've done since you've first started your channel ❤
Not yarn, but l have been planning to start my own therapy practice (I have accredited qualifications) but have ground to a halt using some excuses of not knowing the business world and requirements to not move forward. There are opportunities occuring around me but I still stall and haven't acted on what I know needs to be put in place and I'll be good to go. This has been a very timely and appropriate topic!
That’s so awesome! Thankfully there should be info you need online for the are you live in that should direct you to what paperwork needs to be done regarding licensing your business. I would think you could decide whether to have a physical or online practice. That’s so exciting!!!
I think its so easy to overthink things and let then keep us afraid to do things we really want to. Sometimes we just need to jump into the hard project :) I usually do this in the summer (last year I sewed a regency era corset lol), but this year that didn't really get to happen on the grand scale. Ive still tried doing new things just in small items like socks and now im much better at socks than I was before diving in. So great message:) we just need to take the first official step.
How do you time your vids so perfectly. I've been hatching plans for having nothing but undyed yarn in my stash, so I can dye up for a project when I'm ready for it. Same for cross stitch fabric (and thread to some extent)
I've been wanting to frog and actually use this Scarfie roving yarn, I started making a blanket a year ago, and it was abandoned since then. I used the recommended hook size, and it was difficult and hard on my hands, and ultimately why i gave up crochet again. I found this simple cardigan pattern using this yarn specifically and I really want to make it in December. I have too many other things I want to get done this month though. It's a perfect wintery colorway too. Roving yarn though is hard to frog. edit: And introducing crochet onto my channel. I'm working on a video now that's about crocheting and I'm hoping it does well.
Oh my gosh yes roving yarn is soooo hard to frog!!! But I think you’re smart finding a pattern that specifically calls for the yarn. And yay, I’m looking forward to watching it! Maybe sometime after the new year we could collab and do something related to vintage crochet patterns since you’ve got great experience with vintage sewing patterns!
@ShannonTalksYarn That would be awesome! Yeah, I've been collecting vintage crochet patterns for a little while. Not sure what to do first. I'm thinking a small project perhaps. Like a hat or hair net, or hair scarf. Something that works up quickly, but still impresses.
I keep thinking I would like to start a UA-cam channel re: crochet, but the market seems so saturated! Do you have any recommendations? Love your channel…. Thank you
I’m so passionate about that! In some ways there is over-saturation, so it can make it difficult to stand out in the YT algorithm. I believe everyone has a unique perspective and voice that should be heard. I suggest basing your content on you and how your crochet fits into your life. For an example: if you make a lot of wearables for your kids or grandkids, you could share patterns you like, yarns that are durable for kids, when to make an heirloom project vs a cheap one, what do if if the don’t like a project you made, how to say no when you don’t want to make what they ask for, etc. That’s just one example and it might not be applicable to you. Do you mind telling me more about yourself? 😃
My goal is to set up an Etsy shop to sell handmade crochet wearables. However, there seems like there’s so much to know and do for setting up the shop. Such as graphics, will my items sell, how many do I need and how much variety. Also how do I take care of the financial end, taxes, do I need a LLC or any other licenses to sell? I’ve been holding back afraid of not knowing something important and not really knowing how to set it up etc. Thank you for the push and airing this video! Any advice is appreciated ❤
Hi Kathy! I know it seems daunting but breaking it down won’t be terrible! If you’re here in the US, in most states you can operate under your SS # while you’re still small. It may mean more taxes but in the beginning while you’re building your business up, it most likely won’t make much difference since we all start from zero! Of course do your research and check with your tax professional. The best info out there on selling crochet finished pieces on Etsy is from A Crafty Concept. She is so good at breaking down what to make for your ideal customer, who that person is, how much inventory, setting on Etsy, etc. I recommend totally binging her channel!! Hope that helps! You can do it!
If you are looking for that top down shot I would suggest one of the phone holders that go over your neck. I don’t film tutorials so I don’t use them but I know a number of others do! But I always recommend having and using a tripod for regular shots!

But I have heard that CapCut is a great free option as well! Let me know if you have an iPhone and I’ll pass along a couple tutorials I’ve used!

Wonderful! I hope you give it a try! I haven’t done mosaic either but is so beautiful!!!

Hello! 👋
You’ve got a great start!!! I’m excited for you! I totally get that, it’s the next logical step forward!
I'm working on a cardigan, I've never even made a hat before. I'm mostly amigurumi oriented so this is definitely new for me but I'm trying 🥲
You can do it! I’m excited for you, I love wearables!
It is always fun to hear your point of views! As for me I rather think in terms of what do I need in my wardrobe this season? And dont think so much in terms of this year. Those are super cool Cathy! Do you follow A Crafty Concept? She has great info regarding selling finished pieces. I’m excited for you!
@ thank you for the reminder. I am following her now! Just bought cotton yarn today to start my first official sample
You were just talking about a blanket? A few years ago, during the pandemic, my sister asked me if I could crochet a blanket for her bed. I made one for queen size and used 14 skeins with single stitch. It turned out beautiful, and she mainly uses it in the winter.
That’s awesome you jumped into a huge project like that!!!

Knitting a pair of socks and a sweater, big goals!
Those are great goals!! I’d love you to send me a pic of them when you’re done!

I’m so proud of you!

I couldn’t agree more!!! 😃

lol I totally get that!! It’s hard to work on something warm in the summer, I’m right there with you!
It’s so clear from your last few videos how much you’re learning to think bigger and aim higher yourself. Good work!

You can do it! It sounds like you are prepared, don’t listen to that little voice saying you’re not! And thank you for the encouragement as well ❤️
Not me…I jump in the deep end! 😆
That’s awesome!
Yay! I'm not the only one! I have a harder time slowing down and scaling back than jumping in 😂💞

Thank you Stacy! I appreciate that! 🫶🏻
I’m working on the Sirdar Gingerbread Blanket CAL by Lottie and Albery, and it is a challenge for me, but I am excited about it! ❤🎄
That’s awesome!!!

You can do it Nancy!

@ShannonTalksYarn Thanks :)

I want to become a Craft Yarn Council Certified Instructor. I have wanted to do this for over 10 years. I started once and quit; I don't know why.
Maybe it’s time to pick up where you left off!!!!
Thank you so much. I appreciate your insight and advice. I will definitely check out A Crafty Concept and set some goals.
I want to be able to record me crocheting but i need something to hold my phone for recording. Do you have any suggestions?
If you are looking for that top down shot I would suggest one of the phone holders that go over your neck. I don’t film tutorials so I don’t use them but I know a number of others do! But I always recommend having and using a tripod for regular shots!
How do you edit your videos? I don’t edit mine.
I use my iPhone to film and for a long time I was using iMovie on my phone, I have since purchased a MacBook Air and use iMovie on it to edit which is much more extensive. But I have heard that CapCut is a great free option as well! Let me know if you have an iPhone and I’ll pass along a couple tutorials I’ve used!
