- Adrian Cronauer is a U.S. Air Force veteran and radio personality whose experiences as a disc jockey during the Vietnam War inspired the 1987 Robin Williams film "Good Morning, Vietnam." Cronauer passed away on July 18, 2018. He was 79.
My sweet Jesus. That brings back memories. Being a 19-year-old combat soldier in Vietnam you had very little access to listen to your favorite music. Armed Forces Radio could be picked up anywhere. It was our life blood for keeping up with the latest Tunes.......
Thank you for your service, Mr. Duvall.
I don't like todays music I like old 1950s rock even if some don't like it
John Rambo: When I was in Vietnam I once met Adrian Cronauer and I was like, "Yo Adrian!"
And he was like "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNIN VIETNAM"
strange comment.
This wins UA-cam. There will NEVER be a better comment. I’m deleting my account now. This is the peak.
This could be the beat comment on the internet.
Why did I laugh at this ,😭
Rest easy Adrian and Robin !
Adrian defrauded Vets with a Financial Scheme in 2014 (Cracked) and Robin was a Cokehead.
I'm sorry, I didn't know anything about this thing about Cronauer (maybe during the sixtees he was another person) and about Robin Williams, I think that being a cokehead had nothing to do with his ability as an actor !
@@lasagnajohn robin was one of the best men on the earth. Stfu
@@lasagnajohn lesser men have done worse.
In 1968. I landed in Vietnam January 30. I heard this guy on AFVN. The dawn buster show. Gooooooooood morning Vietnam I'm thinking what in the hell have I gotten into Now. Like welcome to Crazy land. RVN 68-69
Adrian was in Nam in '65-66
That 'Good ...' was 5 seconds long - 5 seconds to situate himself being the DJ for the next 4 hours.
I didn't get there in time to hear Adrian Cronauer but thanks to him AFRTS (pronounced afarts) was worth listening to in 1970-71.
Rest in piece, brother.
R.I.P. AND THANKS FOR ALL THAT YOU DID FOR YOUR BROTHERS IN ARMS BACK IN "NAM"
For those interested : although the "good morning vietnam" movie was not accurate because Mr. Cronauer would still be in Leavenworth i like to think that irl without consequences the original Dj would be a lot more like depicted in the movie. Quote from an interview with him in Usa today : "Cronauer, who left the Air Force as a sergeant in 1966, said he has no issues with Williams' performance in the movie". This tells it all imo. Much respect for both men. R.i.p.
I suspect Adrian would’ve liked to do what Robin did. Robin made this world laugh and I wish he could’ve felt the joy he brought us…
Didnt listen to radio in Nam in the yr there 70-71. Adrian must have been a blast
Rest well Adrian thanks for your service my dad was in Vietnam in 1968 when he was 25. So they considered him a grown up. But he was just a young man who saw the blunt end of War. As a med-vac nurse
in wikipedia Adrian Cronauer was quoted as saying he wanted to create a tv series that was a cross between MASH and WKRP... good morning viet nam was the result of this idea.
Rest easy brother.
Sounds like something you'd hear in a fallout game
wY R W3 STi11 her3 true.
Except it would be "Gooooood morning, Alaska!"
He was aired his broadcast directly from The Brink Hotel in Saigon, now is Park Hyatt Saigon.
It's a great movie...Just really strong performances across the board, JT Walsh, Forrest Whitaker, Robin
RIP Adrian
he had that broadcaster's baritone even at that young age.
RIP Sir
RIP Brother
It’s 06:00.
What’s the O stand for?
Oh my god it’s early!
Sgt. Major Dickerson : [Pointing to his chevrons] What does three up and three down mean to you, airman?
Adrian Cronauer : End of an inning? 😂😂
Love it
RIP. You've caught up with your partner.
"I would like to buy some butter and cheese"
“Why do I feel like the miracle worker here? Hand…..Haaaaaand
Now you say hi Jimmy then you smile 😊
Hey you two want about a couple beer?
Rip
RIP
He pushed the envelope, but not as much as Dave Rabbit did there
Dave rabbit is legend
As a Cronauer. I'm proud! Not sure of any relation.
Martha and the bandellas no were to run
I wonder if the "harmless" Agent Orange got him ... ?
Good question... darn good question!
I know it got my dad... he was stationed at Tan Son Nhut '68 - '69.
@@joannavandenbos6435 So sorry. Did the VA accept his Claim?
Thank you@@donalddodson7365.
No sir, my dad did file a claim but passed away before his file was accepted, due to the backlog. The VA-guy who helped him file, however, said he knew for sure, my dad would have qualified. That's the way it goes...
@@joannavandenbos6435 Sadly, nothing has changed at the core of the VA! Presidents come and go; VA remains solidly opposed to Veterans!!
Robin Williams did it better
I don't know if you were in Vietnam or not but I was and Robin Williams did not do it justice. When I just heard the original it sent a slight shivered up my spine......
@@LivingTheDream6871 Robin was doing his version. The movie was only inspired by Adrian's time in Vietnam, not a documentary.
But not correctly. Adrian did it like this("GOOOOOOOOOOD morning, Vietnam!") because it's not if, but when, you oversleep. The emphasis was on the good so he could grab the records, contact lenses, paperwork, coffee, etc while starting the show.
@@ClarkeMarek Robin was given very loose parameters and then did a lot of improvisation. This is his interpretation of Cronauer. It was not supposed to be an accurate to the letter performance. The director let Robin be Robin. He was at his best when riffing.
@@dan_hitchman007 I know. But still, Robin's kinda sounded disorganized. But that's just me.
