I dunno about that, most (all) US war movies have military as advisors. The more recent the movie, the higher odds of it being funded by the Pentagon. The big thing is that a movie is looking to make money, a story about standing guard for hours in the middle of the rain until you get pneumonia and get discharged without benefits. Or about driving around all day only to get your legs blown up one of the days. It's not really an easy sell.

This is a trope of nam films.
@@TywayLess so a trope and more so a reality, however, yeah, highly popularized by that sweet ass scene in Full Metal Jacket.
Gotta love that peace necklace
The way he says "Man" is so 50s/60s authentic. My uncles and father spoke that way.

Not enough Fortunate Son playing during the obligatory helicopter scene

Only true legends recognize this song just from hearing it faintly in the background of this video.
For the record its White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane made in 1967. It really put the band on the developing psychedelic rock scene of the late 60s. Really good band and I would recommend. They also played at Woodstock 69'

I did notice this Vietnam soldier is fighting with a flintlock rifle.
I know it's just a prop he had on hand but I want it to be canon as that's just a funny idea to me.
Just pretend it’s an M1 Garand
@purpleblah2 Nah. Funnier to imagine a Vietnam soldier who got stuck with a flintlock after they ran out of standard rifles.
I remember reading somewhere (unsourced claim) that there was a soldier who used his grandpa's Trapdoor Springfield in 'nam
Likely BS but who knows?

It's funny how American movies always try to make war seem horrific and end up accomplishing the exact opposite by being so comically over the top
It would appear the way to make a truly anti-war film is to show the soldiers dying nameless and faceless after the war has already been declared over (due to communication delays), and their civilian relatives back at home being indifferent about the war due to being personally unaffected by the war.
@@klavczarkalafan4191 Watch Danger Close or Generation War. That's how you show the horrors of war
i dont know how you can watch the air cavalry massacre scene in Apocalypse Now and not be genuinely horrified. Like, grunts legit ARE over the top and comical. It's even more insane nowadays cuz half of them are FURRIES
@@klavczarkalafan4191 There's definitely material there, especially the revelation of just how useless your "sacrifice" and "heroism" were to actual society and the way the real world runs back home.
I think there would still need to be emphasis on how many just dont really adjust to civ life when you come back from the Shit. wearing civ clothes just feels wrong, like youre lying. and many GIs end up becoming deviant and violent predators because its now second nature.
The whole "becoming a demon" trope definitely seems ineffectual now tho, like that actually inspires First World kids to join.
The peace sign necklace gives a whole other meaning to “hypocrite” 😂

I’d be very inclined to believe every single word he says is true because of my Grandpa who fought in Vietnam.
1: he joined the Vietnam War to get out of going to jail for not paying a speeding ticket.
2: he’s considered scary by his war vet friends. (FYI, do you know how BUILT DIFFERENT you gotta be to scare not just soldiers of the Vietnam War, but those same soldiers being regarded as your friends?!)
3: can do a high kick a ceiling a foot above his head, while having the textbook definition of a beer belly, while also being drunk.
4: got gutted (guts hanging out), drove home WITHOUT aid, Grandma sewing him back up, proceeds to kill the people who done it, and burn their homes to the ground.
Grandma was in Vietnam?
"Burn their homes to the ground"
Your grandpa and his peers have no business wrecking havoc in some other people's home to begin with. He was a terrorist, not the hero you thought he was. Typical bad american take
@@liviodinaj6105 oh nah, this was AFTER he got back from the Vietnam War. He had a bear belly too when he got gutted by natives.
