  • BBC Radio Norfolk held a day of Pirate nostalgia (Pirate Radio that is) on Monday 21st April 2014. It marked the 50th anniversary of Radio Caroline setting up and bringing the nations' teenagers the sounds they'd been craving on their radio. BBC Voices was filming the day - and here is a short snippet. Two Pirate legends in Tom Edwards and Keith Skues chatting about their days on the boats - and forts - in the 1960s. Both went on to have big careers in radio, Keith Skues being one of the original Radio 1 DJs.

I never really liked radio City, the signal was poor in our location and the sound lacked Bass. I loved radio Caroline on 199. I lived in Whitstable in those days and just happened to be fiddling with my transistor radio and heard test transmission from 199. Later I listened to RNI and lastly radio London. I miss them all, so much. Nice to hear Tatty Tom Edwards and Keith's voices again.
