My apologies for the very late comment; it's been a very busy time, here, and I just had the opportunity to watch this tutorial on herringbone stitches. I look forward, now, to trying each of these variations. Thank you, again, for a wonderful video, and for your generosity to those who found the stitches and were able to enter the drawing! 😊
Nicola, I am so thankful for your academy workshops! I have been stitching since 2021 but have never ventured into any new stitch except smyrna and satin stitches. You have now taught me how to do a running stitch properly and now the herringbone stitch! I thank you so very much. I'm keeping up with the stitching along on your free pattern and workshop. Love you so much xo Joanna from Vancouver Island, BC Canada (Westcoast).
Thank you Nicola for your video and another wonderful tutorial. Gosh herringbone stitch, I did not know there were all these variations but then that's why your Academy is so useful. It is also very kind to gift those of us who did not win the coveted prize a pattern. I freely admit I did not get any correct but I hope as I learn and practice that I will improve. Congratulations to Debbie. Happy stitching.
Another great video, the herringbone stitch is lovely. I practiced the stitches you showed and thought they were herringbone but couldn’t identify the open and the other one. So interesting to see all the stitches come to life. I can only imagine the water coming up, there’s always something with a home to take care of. Thank you for sharing, it is very appreciated and so helpful.
Thank you so much again for this series! I never knew there could be so many versions of the herringbone stitch! You are really getting me to think more about what the back of my work is looking like as these stitches are made. I look forward to the next installment!
Nicola, I don't often comment on flosstube, but I couldn't let your herringbone cross stitch tutorial go unacknowleged. Your tutorial was perfect for those of us who are visual learners. Thank you so much I will add the stitch to my next sampler. ❤
Many thanks again. I hope the leak is quickly fixed! I love your occasional pictures of your surroundings; Id so love to revisit Cornwall. Blessings on your week
I know it must be very tedious for you to film so many video segments. Thank you for being so generous with your time! I really appreciate your teaching. I especially enjoyed the herringbone stitch and all its variations. What a fun stitch with so many ways to experiment. 🧵🪡
Dear Nicola, Thank you so much we will really benefit from the pdf thats so nice of you! Really looking forward to receiving that and congratulations to the winner well done! Looking forward to your next tutorial it has been wonderful to have your expertise tuition and to learn from you. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for the wonderful tutorials on the variations of the herringbone stitch. Miss the chance to enter the giveaway but congrats to the winner.
Hi Nicola, very nice tutorial. Your stitching looks very nice on your high count fabric. Congratulations to Debbie. A new water feature in your garden would be fun for Bertie and Hugo. Wow. Have a great week.
Thank you for the anticipation of a sampler chart. I am so enjoying the talks and the stitching. I have dug up a few stitched items by my grandmother and great grandmother and have looked at them with new eyes examining the work and patterns.
I ran out of time to send my reply but I am happy to say that after stitching the three variations, I was thinking of variations on herringbone but did not have time to research them more. I definitely will be looking at all of the stitches that you taught us today, quite interesting. Congratulations to all the winners
I am so enjoying your workshop/lessons. As a beginning stitcher these came at just the right time, so thank you so much for doing this and sharing your knowledge with us. I have just finished the second lesson, so not quite ready for this one yet, but when I finished lesson #2 I noticed this had just been posted and just had to have a look. Another great lesson and looking forward to learning this stitch/these stitches. But first the previous video. Thank you again and enjoy the rest of your weekend. Phyllis
You are so kind. Again great way to get to know the various stitches and where to hunt them down. Thank you for your generosity despite getting the answers correct. You are appreciated
Thank you, Nicola! In a future video, please share exactly what a "compensating stitch" is, how many variations there are of it and how to know which compensating stitch to use. Thank you in advance! :-D
Hello Sharon - I think the best way to describe a compensating stitch is as one that does not appear in the normal stitch path but is required at the start and end of a series of stitches and sometimes when reorienting.
I had never used a herringbone stitch before! Thank you for your kind generosity with your time and knowledge! Could you share how you started your thread on this stitch? I used a waste knot, but, when I checked the back, not a bit of the thread had been caught! 😂
Hello Susan. On the reverse of your herringbone you have vertical stitches so you can run your start and end threads under those stitches or use a waste knot with an anchoring stitch. However, when working closed herringbone stitch you can bury the ends under the front of the herringbone stitch if you have good coverage with your chosen thread and fabric count.
Unfortunately, I reviewed the last video too late to participate in the contest. I did make a note of what stitches I thought were on the back but I would not have won anyway. However, I would have won a pdf of a new sampler based on different versions of Herringbone stitch! Will this be available for sale in the near future? Your description intrigues me!
Hello Ellie - It’s actually quite difficult for me to see where my needle is going as the camera blocks a direct view. I am actually looking at the fabric and working from the side of the camera.

Thank you for creating these tutorials Nicola. I am enjoying the journey and will be revisiting the flosstubes as I stitch my sampler.
The Open Herringbone and double herringbone are my favorite stitches, especially for band samplers.❤

Hello Carol - there will be another giveaway further on in the video. Hopefully you will enter - N x
Any reason during your demos, that on a couple of them you did not start your thread to the left of a vertical?

@@nicolaparkman ok. Thanks. I thought I was doing something wrong. Learning so much
I am first to comment?! :D
My brain is “herringbone fried”!!! 🪡🪡🪡❤️❤️❤️
