the reason that your boot cover puffs up like a balloon in the wind, is because you didn't connect the straps on the under side of the cover. they loop around one of the arms for the soft top frame, and snap back into themselves to secure the crease in the back along the bottom of the parcel tray.
Holy crap - my Miata is missing one of those "frankenstein bolts" as I call it - now I know it's a tenax connector and I can google the proper part name to replace the missing piece. Thanks!
@@mikepearce8209 Hi Mike. You loop them around the lowest bracket then snap them to the cover. This link should help "using the right bracket" section: www.miata.net/garage/boot.html
Thanks. I found out that my boot cover seems to be from robbins, and has some trouble getting the tenax connectors on one of the sides, but I did the edging first, so I will try this.
Hate to say this but I have been struggling with this for years! I have done exactly hat you show to do and it keeps popping off. My cover has slits on around the perimeter that I imagine to make it fit better. But, as soon as I snap one piece into place another piece pops back off. It's maddening.Could never get it to work! Had this Miata for years 1997. I finally bought another boot and same thing. It does not stay on! What honestly could be this problem?
Hi Bill, I don’t try to fold it too small. First I fold the ends in, then fold it in half and pop it In the trunk. That way it doesn’t stress out the hard plastic edge.
Technically you can, but it’s not a good idea. If the boot is on, the hard top will not seal properly where it touches the boot. It also damages the boot cover.

Great tip on doing the edges AFTER all the snaps and clips are done. Well done.
thank you for this! first miata and couldnt get those 10x connectors off to save my life.

Please keep posting videos on miatas they're great and helpful. You're channel will definitely grow.
Thanks Ben 👍😊
A good explanation for new comers to the miata. You missed out the straps and their role in preventing air billowing ;)
I've got a 2.5 Sport, Rick, and wondered about the straps. Please can you tell me what you tie them to?

@@rblythin Thanks, Rick. I've had the car 13 years and never knew!
@@mikepearce8209 No problem. I currently have a 2001 (my 3rd mx5). It's never too late to learn the basics :)
@@rblythin Never even noticed those straps, thank you!
Finding your channel was a great day for me:) Keep the content coming. Go Miata!

I’ve got a 2003 miata. How do you fold the boot up for storage into your trunk?
Hi Bill, I don’t try to fold it too small.
First I fold the ends in, then fold it in half and pop it In the trunk. That way it doesn’t stress out the hard plastic edge.
Can you put the boot and the hardtop at the same time?
Technically you can, but it’s not a good idea. If the boot is on, the hard top will not seal properly where it touches the boot. It also damages the boot cover.
Great video man!
