    Thank you for the added comments at the end, it’s the most broad review of the 790 I’ve listened to to date. It’s a nice bike and very much a KTM branded bike,. Yes lighter, more off roads, more whatever and certainly will appeal to the orange blooded......but I’m keeping my Africa Twin! Honestly, I’m not going to do anything more on this bike I wouldn’t already do on the AT plus my AT been hammer reliable no matter how hard it gets chucked! Great bike but not for me.

    I do appreciate your well balanced conclusion. This is basically why I switched from Ktm 990adv to AfricaTwin: more confort on long travel, with still off-road capacity if needed . An Africa Twin with 30kg less would be a dream . Thanks for review 👍

      @mld I loved the show. A lot of fun n totally inspired me. Still, I didnt get into adv riding til 2015. I did buy a GSA, but not because of the shows. It was too far back in the past by 2015. I had ridden my two friends GS and GSA n researched a lot. It was a great bike for me for a few years. Sold a month ago and picking up a 1290SAR today. I just need more off road focus than the GSA could deliver. That said, mld, I agree with you once again. KTM made their best decision, but too bad it was to BMW's massive advantage.

      @@mortaygo1 I have to assume by your comments, you havent done what they did. Even with all the support they had, incredible challenge, especially for Ewen since he had nearly zero off road experience. I cant imagine doing that. Nuts. In fact, I wouldn't. Not smart. But he fucking did it. Hats off to him n Charlie. Awesome. I thank them for the entertainment n inspiration and for helping the adv bike industry grow so theres better stuff and more for me to choose from.

    Spoked rims rigged with tubeless tyres. Seating position for my 30in inseam was tricky on the R, but ideal on the normal/low setting on the standard bike. The tank is great, yes, it lowers the c of g, but also frees the tank bag space. The suspension is worth the money on the R, surely. What I want to know is what standard bike it truly capable of off the tarmac. Sure it's not the R, but where does it loose out in comparison. Also, I wish these promos would stop showing the greatest professional riders doing tricks on these things. We know they can do that stuff, and on far less focused bikes!

    I want to ask if the low extrusive gas tank could be a risk and to the safety of the bike in case of drooping it in road speed or in a traffic accident ?

    • @quentinthompson5809
      @quentinthompson5809 5 років тому +1

      The purpose of the low tanks is twofold - lowered centre of gravity and safety in a drop. The sides of the tank are abrasion resistant and save the rest of the bike from hitting the dirt

  • @schiussi
    @schiussi 5 років тому

    t's indeed a well done video and I 100% agree on reviews of the Motorcyclist Magazione. Merzouga and its Erg Chebby help to feel in full control of the bike. Sand down there is very compact and helps the driving. If you could head east and enter in Algeria, around Taghit, sand would have been much more soft and down there this bike would tell the truth about its behaviour in sandy deserts. My opinion? It would work: high suspensions (anyway to be regulated stiffer) and free space under the bash plate would let it pass over even some (not deep) fesh fesh.

    Low seat height? What are you talking about? Actually, 790 Adventure R have the tallest seat in it's class - 880 mm. So as the Tenere 700. For comparison: BMW F850GS is 860 mm, Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is 850 mm, Triumph Tiger 800 XCx/XCa is 840 mm.

    • @N1nj4un1corn

      You can lower the ktm 790 adventure down to 800 mm seat height. ua-cam.com/video/TXBpnGADvN0/v-deo.html 4:30 min

    • @BestRex
      @BestRex 5 років тому

      KTM 790 Adventure has 850 mm seat height - not 830. So exactly like the standard Africa Twin it is. But AT has more suspensions travel and more ground clearance.
      And, yes, 790 Adventure R is 20 mm lower in the seat height than the AT Adventure Sports, but Honda, again, has slightly more ground clearance and suspension travel.

      Continental TKC80. They are a nice tire for mixed riding (on /off) but don‘t last long and lack lateral traction in turns.
      If you are looking for serious offroad traction with still great street traction, go for the MotoZ Ttactionator Adventure.
      I get 2x the milage as with TKC80 and the front has a lot more lateral traction in turns (especially offroad).

      Come drive here. There are so many bad drivers, you'd think they do just give them out loosely. I've heard some DMVs do. People drive like they're over medicated mostly. And that's likely too. Some are just on their phones texting. I was behind one last week. I let her lane change into my lane. Big mistake. Shes doing 30-35 in a 45, drifting side to side. I finally get around her n shes engulfed in texting looking in her lap. SMH

    I sure wish these reviews were done by normal people, in other words, people who aren't "expert riders." Just an everyday Joe who is considering going from a 310# 625 to one of these beasts, but wants to maintain the hardcore Colorado off-road ability. Can I learn to ride one? Will I regret the extra weight every day? No, forest roads aren't "off-road." A "review" shouldn't be made by a guy that'll say a 900# Harley Electra Glide is smooth then turn around the next day and say a WR250 is easy to handle.

    I hate this thing. It's over-engineered. It's got these idiotic low tanks which lower the centre of gravity making it "playful" but less stable. It's overpowered for the displacement so will not be reliable enough to be dependable on truly "out of Europe" long distance. It's been designed by the Jony-Ive worshipers with its stupid preying mantis front end - trying too hard. It's got tons of electronics second guessing your skill. It's expensive next to 8300 for the T7. And those fuel tanks are too vulnerable. This is a product for our age of extreme instant gratification. The cocaine of motorcycles. You won't make friends on this thing. I predict a massive flop at the hands of the Tenere 700.
