Learning the basics of compassion meditation

    Compassion is a skill we can learn, says Geshe Lobsang Negi. While much attention has been focused on meditation practices that emphasize calming the mind, the West is just starting to learn more about practices designed specifically around compassion, which have been around for over a thousand years in Tibetan Buddhist monasteries. Geshe Lobsang Negi is director of Emorys Center for Collaborative and Contemplative Studies, where test subjects showed reductions in inflammation and distress in response to stressors, leading to an effective method for controlling high blood pressure. He is also a senior lecturer in the Department of Religion, director of the Emory-Tibet Partnership, co-director of the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative, and spiritual director of the Drepung Loseling Monastery.

    @Oxa1 YES you put it well, thank you!
    A digitized persona is not subject to the same rules of face to face interaction. There is a perceived lack of responsibility to the consequence of anti social behaviour towards others.
    Such changes in rules can harm if an imbalance occurs (actual/digital).
    Familys, peers and religion as social conditioners continue to be substituted by corporate whims.
    That said digitisation itself is not a problem, how it is used is up to us.

    We are saying the same thing, but I am saying the best meditation is to fall in sppiritual love witha compassionate being like the Buddha or Christ... devotion. Then you do not have tpo use your intellect to meditate. The last time I did astral travel there was a lady there who was stuck in a certain intellectual realm in the satral. She told me she had done loads of analytical meditation while alive as a human being. I had to produce many flowers with my mind, hand them to her..to help.

    Google: "Meditation Appears to Produce Enduring Changes in Emotional Processing in the Brain"
    It's a new study from Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston University (BU).
    "Study participants who completed an 8-week meditation training course had reduced activity in the right amygdala"
    They studied two types of meditation, and this was one of them.
    Several previous studies have also supported the hypothesis that meditation training improves practitioners' emotional regulation.

    @bodunchar it occured to me, when i thought about how i should break up with a girl i am dating. I thought, i could do it through internet, msn etc or we could call each other. if you call however it might be more uncomfortable and be more emotional; which made me think; these emotions that rise of uncomfortable situations makes us develop, to deal with other situations in the future.
    Buddishm is so rational specially in a scientific way

    @bodunchar u think digitalizing social interconnectedness and contact can have dehumanizing effect to ones surrounding, hence reducing ones ability to feel compassion for others? Im thinking a little bit about children and the widespread use of ie iphones prohibits these developments of "real" social skills..

    @mrcuteblackie Wrong in so many ways. If there's a "prayer" that's more "natural" than compassion itself and the desire to strengthen it, it is to a strange god. In addition, this focus on Christ is based on what you're going to get. (I suppose that's natural enough...) Compassion meditation points jn precisely the other direction, and in a meaningful way.

    Folks, this compassion meditation thing is not natural at all. TYhe easiest way to compassion is to accept a compassionate being in your life and heart, rather than this intellectual compassion thing. Have you heard this: "Bird of a Feather Flock Together"? Once thecompasionate a loving being CHRIST or AVALOKIT or whoever your SOUIL naturally thinks is compassionate, associates with you, you will be naturally and effortlessly transformed. Just have CHRIST in your heart most times. Sit and enjoy.
