Fantastic content John! This is a very nice refresher as I'm about to start reassembly on the ol 5.3 for my car. Keep up the good work!

Best explanation of finding top dead center I've heard. Thanks and maybe later tell the folks how that relates to timing the motor for race day.

You could use a long breaker bar to give you more control over the crank. Great video love the channel

Howdy doo. What would you do if the cylinder head and timing chain is attached on a modern engine, where rotating CCW is strictly prohibited? Can a dial gauge still be used to accurately find TDC with a spark plug adapter (to verify proper valve timing)?

amazing how many small block fords and chevrolets were off a degree or 2 even when new back in the day. what is acceptable for a daily driven new car is usually not good enough for a performance engine. this one is often overlooked.

you dont need to stay on tdc it best to be before tdc a few deg mine calls for 4 deg before tdc that is where i set it that way piston is still at to for max compresion

Another great video dude I really enjoy your videos whether it being a tech video a blog or raceing video. Building motors for my racecar I have done alot of the things you show in you tech tips the difference is i have a bit of a hard time explaining how to do it. Where as I find you do an amazing job at explaining and showing how to do a certain thing that even a non car person fully understands what you are doing. Keep up the great work dude

LOL, that room has a small ac unit in it, feels cooler than that normally. Might need to tune up the reaction time on it! LOL

I had a 440 mopar that i thought never ran quite as good as i thought it should. When i freshened the motor and degreed the new cam ,i found that the tdc mark on the balancer i was using was retarded 6°. Should have found it the first time i put it together. Thought i had 38° timing, really had 32. Who knows how much better it could have run.
