Always make sure when getting true tdc/using degree wheel- to get it on the same direction sweep don’t turn back and forth with loading/unloading slack on the timing belt/chain. Aggravates the crap out of me. 9:10 you addressed that. THANKYOU lol

I have seen up to three degrees deflection once spring pressure is added on the belt drives degree cam before then after valve train pressure is added

Hey john id love to see you talk about your thoughts on preload. I got some 100g intake valves, but part of me thinks they're heavy for my rpm and I should use near minimum preload on the lifters to cut the springs some slack.
Anyway, love hearing how you work through stuff, always got great ideas and know what you're doing. Missed ya again this week, just been busy. But enjoyed another great video

I think I’ve seen you do this before, last time that caused this was a lot worst. Dropped valve? Pretty cool that after the machine work it’s still dead on what it was last time.

I always fit the cam in the block first before anything else, then crank and then no 1 piston. Then double check TDC. Then I use a lifter with the dial guage to dial the cam.
All pistons in make it too hard to turn the engine.
I have replaced timing chains and find the engine is then 4 deg out. Same gears!
Chains stretch far too easy, belts not as much but still stretch. Gears are best BUT they do transmit way too much valve train harmonics into the crank.

Never mind gear drives are annoyingly noisy. Drives me crazy when I'm dynoing an engine with a gear drive, the noise drowns out every other noise you're trying to listen for.

Why is there a belt? Why! I'd rather run a cam Gear like on my 300 i6 if I wasn't using a chain, but why?!
