    Well it's 3/2023 and I just ordered one. I dropped 2 phones in the toilet and drowned one in a kayak so am sick of buying new because they get wet. This review is so honest and comprehensive and it helped me decide. Thanks. Unboxing and first impression reviews are nowhere near as valuable as one like this after 6 months of rugged use.

    Rant welcome! What a great review - and a great idea to do a much more comprehensive review a few months later. I've purchased one - from an Amazon supplier - I think mine has a problem and he offers no support other than 'return it' so I'm looking more closely at it - now that I have to reorder it from a different supplier.

    Thank you for the review. What makes you your review better than most is not that you purchased it with your own money, but instead it's how you are reviewing it. Your style of review is closer to what one would expect from a friend, who it's not a salesperson, and has a good grasp of technology without being a tech-head.
    The emotions that you exhibited when explaining the things you do not like gives proof to your claim of having used the phone for 5 or 6 months. It's unlikely that somebody who had not used the phone for that long would be able to produce that type of response without it seeming fake. Although it's always possible that I could be wrong and you could just be a really good actor, but I doubt that's the case.
    The aspects of the phone you chose to review are things that the average user would actually be using. which is what most people want to hear when somebody is reviewing a piece of tech.
    So again thank you for the review.

    Owned mine since it was first released in the US. Use it daily in my HVAC job. Water, oil, dirt, refrigerant, nothing seemed to kill it until......I dropped it off a 2nd floor roof onto a sidewalk. I feared the worst. It landed flat face down and even with the additional external case I figured it was a goner. To my surprise, the screen was undamaged. I did manage to kill the microphone from the sudden deceleration test. Contacted Ulefone, while out of warranty they did send me the parts to repair it myself at no charge. I used a bluetooth earbud for calls until parts showed up. Swapped them out, good to go. It I ever do kill it for good somehow I would absolutely own another. I actually do own 2 more of their phones, a 3W I use as my personal phone and a 6E which is now a spare as I wanted the 9 with the FLIR for work as soon as it was released. The 6E I've loaned to my 5 year old grandson to use as a tablet/games as he's already killed his momma's Samsung and a tablet. He can't kill this one. All three have been amazing (and abused) rugged phones that just don't quit.

    I just bought this fone today, I must say thank you as it was this review that finally made my mind up ! I've had this brand before , I had the ulefone armour2s for a few months, the rubber corner pieces came loose so ulefone kindly replaced it by swapping it for the full fat model the armour2 (lot more memory and features). I've had this fone for 30mnths and would have kept for longer but the screen needs re glueing/cementing on one side, I'm guessing it's waterproofing cement but it's time to move on regardless.. Anyone notice that the lower right camera is fake? I'm speculating they sent all working phones for reviewers and then left out that part as they mass produced it. I can not get it to activate no matter what I do. The only camera that works is the one for the 64 MP main camera, the flir camera and front facing camera.
    Edit: I took armor 9 apart and can confirm that my production run of armor 9 has a fake camera. There is a fake flex cable with no actual traces connected to front right camera. It appears they did a Kickstarter campaign with design details then pulled back on some features perhaps due to parts over cost and chip shortages ?

    • @joshuaewalker
      @joshuaewalker 3 роки тому

      My understanding is that the camera on the lower-right (next to the 64MP main camera) is a 2MP depth sensor. It's not meant to be a camera that you can take pictures with. It's there to assist in fast focusing the main camera and to create depth of field effects when post-processing the image. I haven't personally taken this phone apart, but I was also under the impression that the cameras were all part of the same module and would not have their own flex cable connections individually.

    • @Emphasis213
      @Emphasis213 3 роки тому

      @@joshuaewalker that is interesting, if it was just for focus then why is there a flex cable to it with no copper traces? I had the phone a few months and its pretty reliable.one thing that really needs work is the software . It needs a major update.

      I completely agree. With some real effort on the software this phone would be amazing. It's already really good (especially for the price) but this hardware is capable of way more than the software allows.

Some of your issues seem to be related more to the Android 10 operating system than to the phone itself. The complaint about the light seems like you dont understand the logic behind it. If all it takes is for you to touch the button to turn the flashlight on then it can be activated in your pocket accidently and further drain your battery. I think its smart that they require a "conscious" decision to activate the smart button.

    • @reversingentropy

      Thanks for your input !
      In fact the major reason I bought the Armor 9 was the price.
      Both phones have advantages and some disadvantages :
      What I dislike about the Armor 9 is the side-mounted fingerprint sensor, the weight and the microSDXC using a shared SIM slot. The biggest drawback though is the built in thermal imaging sensor. The Armor 9 uses an outdated lepton-module ver. 2.5.
      The CAT S62 Pro instead is using a lepton version 3.5 module with a FOUR times higher resolution. In case thermal imaging matters to you, that would represent the biggest dealbreaker for the Armor 9 . In addition the CAT complies to MIL-STD-810H from 2019 whereas the Armor only has MIL-STD-810G compliance from 2014.
      In the end you get what you pay for, but I am rather happy with the Armor 9 so far.

      -camera is rubbish, considering it has 4
      -the sd card slot is a pain to access
      -the charger port is literally impossible to open if you have short finger nails
      -it won't be as rugged as some other phones, my old ulefone armor X5 had much thicker rubber and much bigger plugs for charger hole, I don't think it would survive a huge drop
      -the microphone hole is right where your pinky finger sits at the bottom on a right handed person
      It's a decent phone for what it is, I haven't used the GPS yet but my X5 was good so I'd say it'll be right
      if I needed a phone for navigating on a bike I'd dare say this is a decent option, big bright screen, water resistant and big battery should tick all your boxes.

      @@dryerest8160 dude... I don't know any of those things. I dont have any affiliation with ulefone. I never used the stock launcher, its crap... still use the phone but now it has a cracked screen and gps doesn't work. I will have to het rid of it soon, but i have not yet found a better phone for my usage case.

    noticed a couple of ave-isms. for some reason it lends credibility to your review of a rugged, ugly-ass phone.
