Back in 1996, I was in Hollywood. Was a weekday afternoon, I went into the Rainbow and there was nobody in there EXCEPT Lemmy. Sitting at the Mrs Pacman table top. Playing the game and drinking Jack & Coke. True story.
I jumped the fence that day too, but think it was at the back near toilets Remember it was really hot, don't remember Lemmy playing, I think Big country were on before Queen (my dad)
MTV didn't set out to fight anything. And Metallica became the thing it set out to be. The biggest metal band in the world. And TBA was written before they stepped into the studio with Bob Rock. Bob Rock didn't write their songs for them.
+LMTR14 Heavy metal is the evolution of Rock. It's a sub genre of Rock n Roll, just like punk is. Like Thrash, Death, Doom, are sub genres of Heavy metal. It's not that complicated.

Don't invite me to ur show and have me pay for it, for it to not be a little bit about me, ya know? Especially now that there's a deadly virus, freaking monkey pox, and some people still not on their feet from shutdown. Give us a reason, not blind loyalty. I'm too old for that. Actually, I'm a NKOTB fan too. Simultaneously, with Metallica, Motorhead, Sabbath, until grunge/punk came along. There's enough room in my heart for all of em. My playlists have hardly any modern music. The Headpins and Nitty Gritty, genre is for record stores. Ahhh the smell of vinyl though! My friends dad had Tommy James and The Shondells, and we would listen to it over and over again. And then put in a Beastie Boys tape or Cinderella. Foos and Nirvana, if u have to tell someone ur a fan, they don't know u. Or music. There r just givens. Or Johnny Cash or George Jones, they made road life. Lita Ford still lives road life. Leaves it on the stage. Some of us r made different.
when I was 12 or 13, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end when he screamed out "I don't want to live forever!" and I still always yell it along with it.
true story i was 17 yrs old at the time. they had me do dressing rooms at the march or die tour this was at the old pine knob venue in clarkston michigan i was a skinny black kid with an afro scared to death . .I mean everyone one had long hair even the dudes!! but i needed the cash at the time I didnt know anyone and this guy was the only one who would take the time out to talk to me an just tell me about how he loved the girls but hated the tour part of it but he loved his job he told me he got more joy out of playing in dive bars in front of his friends than big crowds he said family and good friend is always a better crowd they dont lie to ya cuz if you suck they will tell you . lol i didnt know what the hell he was talkin about at the time. that was the last time i saw him in 92 his last words to me was...hey kid keep ya motor heads up and ill catch ya on the flip side aye!! i never will forget how kool he was with me...he even made sure i had food to cuz nobody else did. just the best dude ever i will never forget that. miss the guy. We did take a picture together with one of those old Kodak Polaroids u had to shake the picture to see it lol I still have it.
Good story. Cool you still have your picture. all my stuff I did, were lived, who I've met. I traveled the U.S.A and seen and did everything. I don't have one thing from my life to look at see or touch. Just memories and stories a regular person has a hard time wrappin thier head around it hard believe. I cool you got a good memory and pic of it. CHEERS !!!
That's really cool, man! Especially the part with dive bars and them being more fun to play at in front of your friends. I've never thought of it this way, I've always assumed the bigger the crowd the better as all the energy from the audience just hits you on stage in waves like an orgasm. But then again in said bars, it's a much more personal experience for everyone involved, right? The way Lemmy defines Rock n Roll and the motivation for it resulting in happiness, I can see that some amps, a few blokes you like to hang out with, booze, speed, and a girl willing to jump on your knob are pretty much all the ingredients you'd possibly need to enjoy life to the fullest as a musician of Lemmy's caliber. Not saying I wanna live that way and I don't want to needlessly glorify this kind of lifestyle, it's just that from his point of view it totally makes sense.
100% honesty.. Let me tell you, i learned that being honest takes you a long way, and i learned it from this man.. Lemmy was just that... brutally honest. Liars are assholes, honest people are noble. Thank you Lemmy for you service. We will miss you, but never forget you.
Actually, he had 10 million dollars or so at the time he died. I know its not much considering Lars Ulrichs or James Hetfields 200 million dollars but..still...I would love to die THAT broke.. :D
I met Lemmy in a posh club in London called the Embassy club, in the 80s. I was in a band and our manager took us there to meet some music business people. He didn't buy me a drink, but he was such a friendly guy. Genuine bloke.
Kudos to the interviewer. He seemed to have Lemmy's respect and managed to keep the interview going with not so stupid questions. Also he let the man talk.
AGENTARMES Thanks for sharing this .... This is Rock-N-Roll history man I appreciate it and I am sure that there are many other rock fans out there that do as well. Have a good one and keep the videos coming!
Lemmy & Dio, the 2 true gentlemen of Rock & Roll. Always cordial and willing to sit down and talk about their worlds... Thank you both for your contributions to Rock & Roll, you both will be sorely missed!
I drank at the bar with Lemmy early before a Motorhead show back around 2004/5. My buddy and I showed up super early and nobody was in the place so we went over to the adjacent bar and ordered some whiskey's and beers. Some guy was playing the pinball machines in the far dark corner at the end of the long bar. He gets done playing walks the length of that long bar and sits down right next me at the bar, bullet belt, Iron Cross, leather jacket, boots and all. I always wore a .308 bullet belt and leather jacket to metal shows because of him and the Thrash scene. I didn't ask for a picture or autograph, just sat at the bar and drank with the man and talked. I'll never forget that. RIP Lemmy.
It's funny how he's talking about the stuff people hate about music these days, all the way back in around '95 - '96. How MTV was becoming a joke, bands that don't tour, and how touring isn't "fun" anymore. Really goes to show you that all this stuff it's recent. It's been happening for decades.
thin lizzys thunder and lightning is such a motorhead song . ive seen pics with lemmy and phil together . i wish i knew more about their friendship but ive never found either talking about eachother
What a great guy. Never heard of Motorhead before his passing and now this musicians words of wisdom are just great. So sad that he left us. So glad that we have his video clips of his sage words on Rock and Roll. RH DSD
Man, Lemmy hit's it right on the head. People who expect every new album to sound like a continued version of the previous one. Tells you a lot about the listeners or the ones who call themselves fans, when they can't get past aesthetics or sound of the band.
What are you even trying to say? A fan has every right to turn on a band if they don't like their new sound, and in Metallica's case they pretty much spat in the face of their hardcore fans by deciding they would be mainstream and rich rather than loved by their real fans. They tried to defend it and say that's not what they were doing but it totally is what they did. The load and reload album were shit because they were shit not because everyone had a grudge on them, every metallica fan bought that album and gave it a chance before turning on them. And seriously everybody saying that getting a haircut doesn't effect music does not get what it meant. If one of them cut there hair no one would care, even if they all did it eventually, But what they did was all cut their hair at once which is like saying we are not the same metallica who wrote the And justice for all album, and they proved it soon after with load. That's why people talk about Metallica being shit once they "cut their hair". They are not actually saying that having less hair makes you less musically talented, That's just when they sold out.
Anybody who knows anything about the band wouldn't be making stupid ass statements like, "they cut their hair, so now they're shit/sellouts/etc." Maybe you ought to read up on why they cut their hair before making a statement like that. As a matter of fact, hop over to reddit and go to /r/metallica and read through some of those discussions.
Are you talking to me? Because I really don't think you read what I wrote properly if you are. They cut their hair at the same time they stopped making good music and meaningful and metal as fuck lyrics. They got alt metal haircuts and started dressing all smart and shit, which is a punch in the face to everyone who loves thrash and speed metal because of early Metallica. Early Metallica is one of the greatest bands in history but I wouldn't cross the street to see them for free these days. If you still think they have the passion they once did for music just look at the napster lawsuit. They actually called their fans that just wanted to hear the music thieves and criminals. They used to live on buses and eat sardines and were happy, now they are fuckin millionaires and they get upset when someone hears them without paying. If you want anymore evidence that they sold out just ask because there is plenty more
drgdegd gedgeg I`m not making the connection on how to be truly " metal" you have to look like shit. "...dressing all smart and shit" - I lol`d. And get off the Napster thing already. They saw the writing on the wall, moron. Countless bands bit the dust due to album sales tanking and labels going belly up because of P2P. They were the ones that had enough balls to fight for not themselves, but for everybody else. You see what you want to see, like most self-proclaimed "true fans", not reality.
Awesome, awesome clip man! Thanks for posting this! So much interesting stuff gets cut out for the sake of making an interview more polished. I love these unedited clips.
I met Lemmy several times years ago and most people don’t know that he was a very intelligent and compassionate man. He really cared about people and mankind. Very great loss to mankind when he died he was so courageous,no one fucked with Lemmy.
He was actually quite smart and witty and very insightful , bascially a bullshit filter. He spoke the truth. He was also thoughtful and kind, and a bit mad. :) He was awesome.
Lemmy's interviews always have sage advice. He seemed the type that caught on the name of the game early and, and started doing his own thing immediately as a response.
Its really refreshing to see how respectful he is towards his peers dee snyder is a fuckin legend for standing up for free speech and against censorship plus he testified in front of Congress in basically full drag
I get the sense Lemmy would suss people out in seconds of speaking to them and know if they were worth knowing. A lot of people have probably tried to pretend around him or try and impress him because of who he was. He saw through the bullshit like nobody else
"Heavy Metal IS Rock and Roll. It's just a different name." RIP, Lemmy, we'll keep playing it loud... (And thanks +AGENTARMES for posting this magical, marvelous, honest and historic interview!)
Lemmy was as cool in the flesh as you see on the video. He shouted me a beer one night because I had waited politely to see him. Gave me his autograph and Peter Gill’s as well. I miss him so much.
when you compare this interview to his last it's actually really upsetting you can see what he was going through the pain he was going through but one thing was for sure he never cracked even death couldn't break his spirit rip lemmy!
Man Metallica re so lucky.Having your idol, who u once worshipped as god,is praising you and your efforts. Not many people are blessed with this good fortune.
A band proves itself on the road. This interview is an absolute masterpiece in more ways than one. Good questions, and answers are philosophical brilliance. I can tell Lem isn't feeling well here R.I.P.
Lemmy sure reminded me of my dad, hard core whiskey and cigarettes. I am so glad that we have the real warriors, working real hard for the truth. Thank you so much Lemmy!!! Although I never knew you, I wish my dad met you!! Crazy eh? I love your kindred spirits. To his son as well, hope all is good! I miss my dad so much too!!
Ambled on here out of sheer curiosity after reading about his death (heard the name but never listened to the band). I was expecting hedonistic rants during the interview considering his reputation but he seems to have had a good head on his shoulders, respect for his peers and called BS out with a lot of homespun truths, much of it borne from experience. The mark of a good man. R.I.P.
I'd rather hear Lemmy talk, than a lot of bands play...

Foos and Nirvana, if u have to tell someone ur a fan, they don't know u. Or music. There r just givens. Or Johnny Cash or George Jones, they made road life. Lita Ford still lives road life. Leaves it on the stage. Some of us r made different.
@Donnell Okafor Its sad man. But the time IS ripe for a real balls to the wall rock band to come out. Someone's gotta save it!

BUT APPARENTLY I AM
Very very true
when I was 12 or 13, the hairs on the back of my neck stood on end when he screamed out "I don't want to live forever!" and I still always yell it along with it.
Lemmy is 100% genuine
Lemmy looked so british without a beard...
He looks like he belongs in a western movie.
Fred Dosan Jesus - I couldn’t figure out what was so different about him ! It must be being 50 bloody 4 . Best Wishes from wessexshire
But the beard make him look even more british
And with the beard he looks like Captain Price if he was in Motorhead
Probably because he is.
true story i was 17 yrs old at the time.
they had me do dressing rooms at the march or die tour this was at the old pine knob venue in clarkston michigan
i was a skinny black kid with an afro scared to death .
.I mean everyone one had long hair even the dudes!! but i needed the cash at the time
I didnt know anyone
and this guy was the only one who would take the time out to talk to me an just tell me about how he loved the girls but hated the tour part of it
but he loved his job
he told me he got more joy out of playing in dive bars in front of his friends than big crowds
he said family and good friend is always a better crowd
they dont lie to ya
cuz if you suck they will tell you .
lol i didnt know what the hell he was talkin about at the time.
that was the last time i saw him in 92
his last words to me was...hey kid keep ya motor heads up and ill catch ya on the flip side aye!!
i never will forget how kool he was with me...he even made sure i had food to cuz nobody else did.
just the best dude ever i will never forget that.
miss the guy.
We did take a picture together with one of those old Kodak Polaroids u had to shake the picture to see it lol I still have it.
Good guy
That's cool
thanks for sharing
The King of England is dead. RIP my old friend, we'll miss you but we'll never forget you.
The King is dead long live the King.
Holy shit. He looks more kingly than any of the inbred twats currently in Windsor Castle.
@@peachmelba1000 LMFAO! 😂😂
I’m so thankful for UA-cam, the days I need to listen to Lemmy he’s available. Rip Lem, we all miss you man.
0Imtheslime0 Honesty IS noble. I’ve also lost people I thought were my friends by being honest. But hey, what the fuck.
'The only people with charisma don't know they've got it.' Very true
Got a Vodka and Orange off Lemmy at a gig at Pompey Guild Hall so many years ago I cannot remember....."There ya go kid"
Legend! RIP Lemmy
I met Lemmy in a posh club in London called the Embassy club, in the 80s. I was in a band and our manager took us there to meet some music business people. He didn't buy me a drink, but he was such a friendly guy. Genuine bloke.
This man talks so much sense.
Some of us are still flying the flag
.
RIP Mr Ian Fraser Kilmister.
Kudos to the interviewer. He seemed to have Lemmy's respect and managed to keep the interview going with not so stupid questions. Also he let the man talk.
Oh how times have changed, went from bands making a name on the road, to making a name on a record, to making a name on the internet.
...to letting someone make you a name
Very smart man, if more people in this world were like him it would be nicer
Love the way lemmy is so relaxed in this interview, just says it the way it is, cud listen to him all day, still missed very much.
Speed, alcohol ypu will be relaxed like a mf, believe me
He still makes sense when he talks ,which is a medical miracle.
so if lemmy's case is a miracle, what is it for dave mustaine?
miffification Divine intervention that Mustaine is still alive
miffification did mustaine even do that much?
One word: Ozzy.
lemmy didn't even try crack. ozzy and dave both got tons of the most hardcore drugs. Dave was addicted to 9 different sorts of drugs.
AGENTARMES Thanks for sharing this .... This is Rock-N-Roll history man I appreciate it and I am sure that there are many other rock fans out there that do as well. Have a good one and keep the videos coming!
No problem! Glad U enjoyed the video!
+Revolcisum RIP Lemmy God has gone to God.
+Adrian Lee Lemmy is God!
jlsinner99
Yeah I was waiting for that one to show up.
+Adrian Lee Why would you say something lie that when Lemmy was anti-religion? What an idiot
Lemmy & Dio, the 2 true gentlemen of Rock & Roll. Always cordial and willing to sit down and talk about their worlds...
Thank you both for your contributions to Rock & Roll, you both will be sorely missed!
Lemmy interviews are so entertaining. Such a character. This is a rock star who truly has lived. R.I.P Lemmy
RIP Lemmy.
Why is this shit sitting in the comments on every lemmy video?
It's funny how he's talking about the stuff people hate about music these days, all the way back in around '95 - '96. How MTV was becoming a joke, bands that don't tour, and how touring isn't "fun" anymore.
Really goes to show you that all this stuff it's recent. It's been happening for decades.
Ya. Totally True !
This guy was as cool as Bon Scott and Phil Lynott. That is saying an awful lot. Gonna miss him!
Three of my favorites , couldn’t have said it better.
thin lizzys thunder and lightning is such a motorhead song . ive seen pics with lemmy and phil together . i wish i knew more about their friendship but ive never found either talking about eachother
Legends never die!! \m/
He was actually very friendly with Lynott
@@dallaswinston5906 I've heard Lemmy talking about Philo after his death, you'd know that they were friendly.
It was very much "What a waste etc."
What a great guy. Never heard of Motorhead before his passing and now this musicians words of wisdom are just great. So sad that he left us. So glad that we have his video clips of his sage words on Rock and Roll. RH DSD
R.I.P. Ian Fraser "Lemmy" Kilmister
He knew what rock was all about...sorry you had to leave the party.
He didn't disappear though. He just left this party for an even better one.
@@hsdgfasdg5646 brought a tear to my eye, and a lump in my throat. Well said mate!!!!!
If you want anymore evidence that they sold out just ask because there is plenty more
drgdegd gedgeg
I`m not making the connection on how to be truly " metal" you have to look like shit.
Lenny was such a genuine person. Bigger than life. RIP.
a real gentleman... patient with the interviewer....god rest him....
“Crazed joy and rebellion for no apparent reason.”
Try selling that in today’s culture of planned, manufactured and marketed music.
"...heavy metal is rock and roll, it's just a different name."
One of the best Lemmy (peace be upon him) interviews I've come across.
Thanks for sharing this! It's always interesting to see such older interviews. R.I.P Lemmy
Awesome, awesome clip man! Thanks for posting this! So much interesting stuff gets cut out for the sake of making an interview more polished. I love these unedited clips.
He told it like it is - no bull, just straight up honest truths - he will be missed
I got a vibe on this. The best concerts are the ones that the band gets into it as much as the fans. RIP Lemmy.
"Rock and roll is supposed to bring you crazed joy and rebellion for no apparent reason"...Amen Brother! Mission accomplished...
Prob the best Lemmy interview I've seen!!
This is a great interview. Thanks for posting.
He looks and sounds great for someone who has lived a hard rock and roll lifestyle for as long as he has.
I met Lemmy several times years ago and most people don’t know that he was a very intelligent and compassionate man.
He really cared about people and mankind.
Very great loss to mankind when he died he was so courageous,no one fucked with Lemmy.
Great interview. Thanks for posting this on UA-cam. 👍🏻
He was actually quite smart and witty and very insightful , bascially a bullshit filter. He spoke the truth. He was also thoughtful and kind, and a bit mad. :) He was awesome.
This was awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to share this! Lemmy, rest his soul, was Killed by Death.
5:05 "Heavy Metal *is* Rock and Roll, it's just a different name"
Lemmy's interviews always have sage advice. He seemed the type that caught on the name of the game early and, and started doing his own thing immediately as a response.
Its really refreshing to see how respectful he is towards his peers dee snyder is a fuckin legend for standing up for free speech and against censorship plus he testified in front of Congress in basically full drag
LEMMY HAS DIED AGE 70 12/28/2015, THE GOD OF ROCK, PARTY ON..........
+jetbtkng Didn't Philthy animal Taylor just die too?
Charles Monti ya november 11 this yr about a month ago, suks ass......
+jetbtkng Very sad day...
Scott Weiland died around the same time.
+TheCryptCrusader Scott..
Saw him at the Rock and Blues 19 years ago absolutely incredible such a genuine character and totally genuine.
I get the sense Lemmy would suss people out in seconds of speaking to them and know if they were worth knowing. A lot of people have probably tried to pretend around him or try and impress him because of who he was. He saw through the bullshit like nobody else
Lemmy is the nicest, most intelligent, honest guys in rock n roll. love you man, get well soon. xxx
Thank you so much for this video. Lemmy was a true icon and I still miss him.
"Heavy Metal IS Rock and Roll. It's just a different name." RIP, Lemmy, we'll keep playing it loud... (And thanks +AGENTARMES for posting this magical, marvelous, honest and historic interview!)
this is a great interview Lemmy is most assuredly a very smart man he told a lot of truth!!
This man was ROCK! He lives on in his brilliant discography! He'll never stop inspiring musicians young and old.
I like that way Lemmy sort of laughs. He inhales sharply as though he's going to crack up and then just let's it slide.
“I’m afraid , I think, MTV has largely come to be the thing they set out to fight...and I think it’s a shame.” Lemmy Kilmister
The best frase in live I saw in my life: "We are Motorhead, we play rock'n roll" Thank you Mr. Lemmy. Rest in peace.
gosh he looks so much younger with out facial hair
I didn't even recognize him at first.
Lenny was a one-of-a-kind. I love his music. and his shoes can never be filled!
Lemmy was as cool in the flesh as you see on the video. He shouted me a beer one night because I had waited politely to see him. Gave me his autograph and Peter Gill’s as well. I miss him so much.
I feel like Lemmy and Quint from Jaws hang out and drink whiskey together.
Good call 👍
In a drinking contest Lemmy would win.
Here's to swimmin' with bow-legged women...
Nah - they’d be drinking Narragansett “The Official Beer of the Clam”
I am still in such a state of absolute DENIAL about Lemmy not being around anymore.....Think it,s gonna last quite a Damn Long time too.
when you compare this interview to his last it's actually really upsetting you can see what he was going through the pain he was going through but one thing was for sure he never cracked even death couldn't break his spirit rip lemmy!
Still think of this man almost every day. RIP brother
He really was one of the all-time greats. Thanks a lot for uploading this dude.
This is the best interview of him on the entire youtube. And of anyone in the rock'n roll industry.
Seems weird seeing Lemmy without his beard, but that's just me.
Cool guy, thank you for up loading.
This was great. Lemmy looks soooooooo young. Thanks for posting. Long Live Lemmy. 👍✌🤘😷🤘
Great interview. Lemmy knew what he was talking about. What a legend.
