I live in the middle of the city and have rarely ever even seen cattle in my life. Thank you for teaching me this skill I have successfully roped my dog with an iPhone charger 😂😂😂
Gotta start somewhere 🤠
I’m a total noob to roping, these are the best videos and explanations I’ve seen anywhere. Thank you!
I just got my rope today and this series helped me so much in learning thank you
My name is Chris Robinson from arkansas.ive taught myself to juggle, work nunchuks two at a time and I wanted to learn roping at the ripe age of 47. May I say brother that you are a perfect teacher and seemingly a wonderful man.if you have kids, they are very lucky to have you as a role model.great video brother.thank you so much
You did a great job putting these five series of videos together.... thanks
Thank you so much for the videos. I’m
Left handed, never picked up a rope and after following along the 5 gallon bucket didn’t have a chance. Your instructions were so clear I was able to covert them in my brain for my left hand.
me too!
don't do it left handed if your doing team roping
I’ve watched each of your videos probably 10 times each. Best explanations ever
I have grown up on a ranch, but I haven’t rode a horse in 8 years and haven’t roped since I was 5. This series has brought me back, thank you!
A Love these videos. I have watched others to learn how to rope, but yours was the best. Love how you break it in sections and love the GoPro view and your explanations are awesome!!! Thank YOU!
Amazing videos! I can't thank you enough.... After every practice i re-watch a video and pick up something new!!! You really have a unique for describing roping that makes sense.
Without a doubt your videos are THE MOST helpful
Hey Dru, thanks for such a great set of video lessons! You are an excellent teacher. I live in Baja and work with horses almost every day. A friend brought me a King rope, so I am off and running! Thanks again!
Het Dru, thanks for the great lessons. My riding buddy got me a XS rope for Xmas and we are already roping stuff in the yard! you are a really great teacher!
Hey Dru, I want to thank you for your awesome videos! I was having a problem frisbeeing off the horns. I re-watched your video and tried the walk up and lay the rope on the horns. I did it three times and BOOM! Fixed my problem! Now I am catching almost every time! I almost didn't do it because I thought it was silly. :)
This definitely helps beginners like me! Thanks looking forward to more Videos!
Great videos! Really helped me out thanks.
Kind regards from Denmark.
thanks for the detailed videos, they really help
Great videos! Really helped me out thanks :D
Awesome videos! I just got me some cattle and I need to rope them to treat them and this will definitely help me catch them.
Love these videos! I am starting to rope, basically on my own and these have helped a ton! Would be nice to have a basic instructional on roping from the horse, and getting started roping the dummy while mounted. I got on my horse the other day and just walked around swinging my rope and had a little trouble getting my rope and reins organized and controlling my horse along with controlling the rope. He is an old team roping horse, so he knows the drill, but I don't!
you sir are a great teacher. k
Dru-Stew, great videos! You’re a great instructor. You’re step by step explanation is perfect for newbies. Where is Step 6?! I need to know how to throw/release… lol.
Awesome videos Dru. I have been wanting/trying to learn how to rope for a long time so I could maybe rodeo someday. I actually met your brother the other night at my house when he came to hang with the guys. Anyways, I think your vids are really gonna help! Maybe Ill get to see you rope sometime.
I am a beginner thank u for the videos
Helped a lot I needed help coiling
Very helpful! Now I just need space to actually try it 😂
What about if your left handed does the spoke need to go on the left side or the knot or right side.?
So do u keep the rope still coiled when u throw it or do u just have the loop big enough not to
problem I have is I throw right at the head opening my loop to rope the horns instead of going right to left. I either totally miss the steers horns and my rope goes to the right or I throw and miss the right horn and my rope hits the left. what am I doing wrong here? I use a super soft head rope. any suggestions so I stop doing this?
love roping
I don't really know if you respond to comments but I'm having issues with catching the whole head like breakaway roping rather than just the horns any help from anyone would be appreciated
Hey Dru, why do you cover your dummy in carpet? Figured it was to save your rope but not exactly sure.
good
Would you still practice the same as your videos when you are learngin breakaway roping on a claf. Or is there a different technique or different aim or lay when roping?
Breakaway roping is a little different because you have to rope the calf around its neck. That means you have to swing with the tip of your loop lower and get your bottom strand down more when you are swinging and throwing. You look to the calf's shoulder rather than the horns on a steer. A good way to practice calf roping when you are just starting is with a bale of hay and no head on it. If you can get your bottom strand down far enough on the bale to catch it, then you should be able to rope a calf. Hope that helps!
Clear as a bell, but not so easy, I suspect. Thanks.
What kind of rope is that
About how far away from what im roping should i be with a 30 foot rope. Nice vids they help a lot
Mudjunkie34 about 4ft or so if your just practicing to catch but if your going for distance then as far as you can just rope fast if your going for distance. hope that helped
I'm having some issues feeding the loop I made the mistake of learning to rope and becoming accurate without feeding. But now that I'm looking for a faster time I started feeding and I realized quickly I am doing it completely wrong. I flip my hand over and that causes the loop to figure 8. If you could help me out in some way that would be awesome thanks.
Hey Joe,
Feeding doesn't mean your a bad ass, it means your actually progressing and getting better. Feeding is imperative to roping better and more consistent. The main reason you figure 8 when feeding is because when we learn we often force the rope and put some whip in it. Send me a response video of you swinging or email it to me at drujstew@gmail.com and I'll get back to you with help.
seems easy enough
One thing I feel you forgot to explain is the release... I've got pretty much every step down up to that point... I keep hitting my dummy in the back of the head... any help is much appreciated...
Adam Hines just let go and put some power behind it, not too much, just lay it over the horns and pull the slack. Youll get faster after a bit.
@Drustew We need ALL Ropers in Washington DC Jan 1-7 2021 ! Time to Round-up Traitors! Spread the Word! Bring Lots of Extra ROPE!
Where's the rest of the video??
Maybe someone can help me out with this. I can get my rope over the head around the neck every time, but i can never get it around the horns
