    Amazing! I’m 75yo, Learned to rope in the 60’s. So much has changed. I was never a rodeo competitor but I did help out at branding time in Long Creek, OR. I would swing my loop over my head counterclockwise or clockwise depending on where the horse & I were to the calf & whether I was going for the head or heels. Local cowboys sorta teased me about that but not too much ‘cause I got good results. Loved the way you explained things, colored lariats, “artificial stock” & beautiful bay horse. Love this technology. Good job!!

      @@mihakabercic4457 thanks for asking. I’m 76yo & my body is falling apart. Cowboy days are long behind me. However, I take advantage of a military veterans program at an equine therapy ranch in Manor, TX. I ride & then serenade various horses as an amateur classical guitar player. Amazing experience. Horses’ reactions have enlightened me. ‘Nuff said for now.

    Alex, on the ground when you are starting you want to almost be able to hit the horns with your loop when you are swinging. Then to catch all you have to do is extend your arm or take a small step forward. So pretty close. On the machine you want your horses nose about even with the middle of the steer or the steers hip. Not too far back. You never ever want to be directly behind the steer. Make sure you are off to the left about a step.

    This is a great video, especially the camera work from the back of the horse. I am very visual learner and I wish I could have had angles like that to learn from when I was starting out.

    Hey man I’m making my own roping dummy for ground work and want to know how high the head should be off the ground and how much space to leave between the back feet and the ground for heeling. Thanks for the great Videos!

    I have watched all your video's, they are GOOD! You have helped me ALOT.! Thank You! I have roped the dummy for way too long! About 30 years! I have recently lost a bunch of weight (60 lbs) and FINALLY I am getting ready to actually do the damn thing! I don't want to admit it! but, I am pretty nervous! There are SEVERAL things on my mind, BUT... My question is this... although I am alot lighter! I am still a big guy! 260-70 lbs x 5-10. I want to heel. What size horse (approximately) would you suggest? I am gonna buy one real soon. Any suggestions? Thank You Again!

    Why are you tracking your horse to the left of the steer when you're heeling?

    Love the videos amd all the tips you are giving us.
    Got a question. I am a beginner heeler and when I throw most of the time my whole loop will go flying all the way out to the left passing in front of the back leg not setting a trap.
    What do I need to do ?

    As a heeler I think a dummy that you can catch out of time can do more harm than good.

    who and what position best left-handed?

    • @coltersnook2304
      @coltersnook2304 5 років тому

      JULIANO RODRIGUES there is very very few left handed people in rodeo. Like I know of no one ever roping professionally left handed but there are some . If there is a left handed person they are more than likely a healer.
