Arrtx Soft Pastels- How Do They Rate?
Вставка

- Today we are going to take a look at the new Arrtx soft pastel set of 48 colors that has just been released: amzn.to/3EXXmFs
These are budget-friendly, medium-hard soft pastels. Soft as is "chalky", so to be confused with their oil pastels.
Pros:
Price
Pigment info provided
Nice storage box
Printed color swatch overlay included
Cons:
Some colors are scratchy
The black and white are not very robust so I recommend buying those colors from another brand like Sennelier or Schminke to add to the set
Bottom line: I think these pastels are OK for the price but they personally wouldn't be my top pick at this price point. Instead, I would recommend the Paul Rubens pastels that also have pigment info but are much softer: amzn.to/3SL7bw6 or the Soho which are smoother: amzn.to/3mo6eO2 That said, the Arrtx are not bad pastels but I think you will want some softer pastels to layer on top and likely some pastel pencils for details as getting details with the chunky half sticks will be difficult. They are not bad but not my personal preference considering the competition.

It was great to see the colors on the black and white paper. It’s amazing that even with an okay set, the gorgeous outcomes of your talent. Still amazing. ❤❤
You could paint with koolaid and fruit juice and make it look good. Great review. Love your honest reviews. Thanks
Definitely want to see the creation of the peacock. So beautiful. Thanks for the review. ❤❤❤
I love your reviews even when I'm not overly tempted by the supplies. Thank you.
Good of Arrtx to offer pigment info. I could tell from your voice that you were not thrilled by these but still wanted to be fair. I lived the skyscape! I found valuable to hear how you recommend to make a decision: if you like X, then you will enjoy pastels YZ. Everyone is different.
Thanks Lindsay. I really appreciate your reviews.💜
The cloudscape is really pretty. Enjoyed the video. 🙂
Thank for your review.... I don't know much about pastels but learned they need to be smooth and buttery... thanks again
I loved the paintings! Especially the clouds. I have these I will have to try them 😊
Solid candid review. Thanks!
Any time!
I really like the cloudscape!
They look lovely, I'm so tempted!
Thank you for your excellent review!
I love that peacock! So beautiful!!!
Thank you, Lindsay. :)
Hello! Lindsay! Thank you for your video. You're a talent.💞.❤.
Very good review. I love how the peacock turned out.
Thanks! That tutorial will be up tomorrow:)
Not an Arrtx fan myself. Thanks for the info.
Great review Lindsay. If I was going to buy anymore pastels at a price point I'm comfortable with it would be Sennelier.
These colors look beautiful though compared to my Rembrandt 60 set.
The prices of sennelier have been awesome!
Hullo Lindsay, I gave up on the very cheaper/affordable brands! They are less expensive for a reason. I did try the Jerrysartarama SOHO Sticks and they are ok for a beginning layer. I finally picked Schminke for my softest sticks, I found not every stick is buttery, but as they contain so much pigment that truly determines how they feel. The sticks that are scratchyer have a very hard pigments, dark blues, purple even som reds! But you can layer on top of just about every other sticks! Emma Colbert Art did a blackest black and whitest white videos and even she was surprised at the results! Thank you for reviewing this set/brand, as I continue my pastel journey I find practice quite expensive! I hope I can continue this new to me medium! Well afford this medium, it is one of the most expensive was to create paintings! Even papers cost so much! I have purchased several expensive watercolor papers and they don’t even compare! Pastel supplies are the most costly medium. Very good review, thanks Lindsay!
Have you tried priming with liquatex clear gesso. Its very toothy.
@@thefrugalcrafter yes, I have even made several practice surfaces using different recipes from other UA-cam creators adding pumice or modeling clay and several other recipes! Thanks Lindsay.
Your peacock and clouds look amazing, might I say :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your peacock!
I have a super cheap set of ohuhu soft pastels that me and the kids use in mixed media stuff. I also have senillier, paul rubens and rembrandt and the ohuhu some arr soft creamy and opaque, and some are hard crunchy and weird.
The cloudscape is so lovely. Being a lover of rather muted colors, this set appeals to me. No, I can't buy one more thing (right now😉) but in the future...maybe.
Is the cloud picture from your imagination? I keep going back to it!!!
It's from a photo in the color cube
It’s nice that they give the pigment info! The palette looks ok, but uninspiring.
I can see my evil twin buying these to see if her granddaughter likes the medium. Thanks for always being truthful lass .
I need a peacock tutorial. I have the sohos 90ish count and have yet to crack them open
♥
so lovely! but what kind of paper do you use with soft pastels?
Pastel or watercolor paper. Something with texture
@@thefrugalcrafter okii tysm i have watercolour paper! i had to get pastels for art class but we havent used them yet so i'm trying to learn on my own. also tysm for responding i love your channel sm!
So I find that many greens and lighter pale colors from several brands of soft pastels are scratcher in comparison.
Hi Lindsey! Have you tried the Montmarte brand? They have a signature series and an extra soft series… Some of these companies have multi level grades, so I’m not sure who Montmarte belongs to, but I have Paul Rubens,Mungyo, SENNELIER, Sakura specialist, and I have to say the Montmarte are the best. Oh, of course, besides neo pastels :-)
I haven't tried them.
They are very inexpensive, and I believe in my opinion they are the crème de la crème of the cheapo brands :-) and you know Lindsey I have to say you are the coolest person because you always reply no matter how many subscribers you have, and how busy you are. I truly appreciate it. Thank you.❤️
