    Hullo Lindsay! I am truly thankful that you decided to create a September Pastel video extravaganza! You have a real knack for creating wonderful artworks no matter what mediums you use! I hesitate to say that I was once so versatile, but I was! I had never worked with soft pastels. I did an occasional chalk painting on the sidewalk or brick wall, but those chalks were miles away from the quality of soft pastels! You just knock out piece after piece. I hope you do a side by side showing the difference between surfaces.
    I don’t believe that you need to paint a dozen identical pictures! NO! Perhaps you can do a second painting of one of your favorites from September Pastels? Pick up a sheet of your precious Pastelmat and show your viewers how different it is from the sand grain paper, which let me just say is a dang good paper, especially for the price!!! I believe that it is less expensive than the handmade paper I created for practice with watercolor paper adding clear gesso and pumice or even Krylon workable fixative spray added to any of the less textured papers! Thank you for sharing all of your ideas and techniques for creating a successful pastel painting.

    I love this pastel, it’s like the best summer day! I really thought about impressionistic work while watching you create and I was really getting it in a different way today. An “a ha” moment for me!!!Thank you.

    I love soft pastels. They’re so forgiving. Useful tip of the day is standing up the ones you’re using. Great idea!

    This is so pretty. I’m going to try this one. It would also be pretty in acrylics. I really enjoy the pastels, it just feels like coloring to me. Love it!

    Hi Lindsay! At about the 20-minute mark and I’m loving how intentional yet free this is looking, and perhaps more importantly, I can feel the joy and energy composing this piece is giving you! I also love how ochre, the slate/Payne’s-like grey, and purple are unity colors, and in both watercolor and pastel I’ve seen people prefer clipping over taping their paper. Well done!

    These pastel lessons give me a chance to use my pastels. Thanks for providing these wonderful lessons. I was wondering if pastels ever go bad or become unusable?

    I love watching you work with the pastels! Did you take pastel lessons in addition to watercolor, or are you self-taught?

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 роки тому

      No, I only took drawing and watercolor but those are a good foundation for everything else. I've always been font of trying new media and have been expetimenting since childhood.

    Lindsey. Lovely! You make this look so easy. Question: can one use oil pastels rather than soft pastels? What should one know about this process. many thanks for generously sharing your talent and time.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 роки тому

      Sure but work smaller as they won't blend as far of fast (if you are trying to keep up with a video)

    Its so beautiful! Could you ever actually use sandpaper? I was always curious about that.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 роки тому

      You can but its not archival. You can buy artist grade sandpaper for pastels tho.

    • @mjpete27
      @mjpete27 2 роки тому

      Hullo, sandpaper you use for woodworking is not a good choice for practice. Most woodwork sandpaper has acidic glues and in some cases caustic “sand” that will attack your pigments! You are better off practicing on a rougher paper and using workable fixative spray to create grit for more layers. I use watercolor paper coated with clear gesso or mix clear gesso with pumice and coat printmaking papers. These homemade papers are archival if made right, Cheaper too! Pastelmat is one of the best surfaces and some of the most expensive as well. Good luck!

    I'm always amazed at the realisim in your work. Makes me want to pick them and smell them. I have a question off topic. Have you ever tried the faber castell black edition? In my opinion they are very soft. I love coloring with them. They now come in a 50 ct. I wish they had a 72 ct. I'm a novice colorist and not a professional. Have a great day.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 роки тому

      Yes! I bought the 36 pack this summer before the 50 pack was out. I filmed a review and I think it's scheduled for next week. I like the opacity!

    Hi Lindsey, I’m considering your class. Unfortunately, I am concerned about the pastel dust as I have some respiratory issues.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  2 роки тому

      It sounds like oil pastel would be a better fit for you and my class is on soft pastel (the chalky kind) so i don't think it would be worth getting if you used only oil pastels. I have an oil pastel video coming up on Thursday tho you can try.

    at 34:30 area, you say bringing the texture back in, but can't see what you did there?? How are you bringing texture back? I am using a very inexpensive and old Pentel set and it seems like they are just mush. I am not enjoying them at all.
