- The final outing of 2019, and indeed the decade, saw me heading down to the Mid Hants Railway to say farewell to a locomotive that'd become a firm favourite of mine in recent years, BR Standard Class 9F No.92212. After 10 years of sterling service, the 9F would be making her last runs on her current boiler ticket, over the last weekend of December and the bank holiday weekend, after which she would be withdrawn from service pending an overhaul. Smartened up with white painted fittings on her front end, she looked utterly stunning as she pounded up the MHR's 1 in 80 and 1 in 60 gradients with her five coach train.
This video was filmed on her penultimate and final days in traffic, with 92212 captured at the following locations:
On December 29th:
Alresford.
Bighton Bridge.
Ropley Station, passing S15 No.506.
Horse Lane.
Grosvenor Road.
Rookwood.
On December 30th:
Northside Crossing.
Bowers Grove Lane.
Soke Hill.
Northside Lane, her final run.
Thank you to all those at the Mid Hants Railway for providing a fantastic two days of filming with this mighty machine. Let's hope she's not out for too long!
Filmed on a Panasonic VXF990 with a Pro Sound L92AA microphone.

Lovely vid of my favourite loco. A healthy 9F wouldn't even notice a five-coach load!
Many thanks :)
No 5 coaches would be child's play for a 9f and even with 1 in 60 gradients you would have to reign her in
A wonderful tribute to this fine loco Kris, those silhouette shots were excellent....Looking forward to enjoying more from you in 2020...Best wishes....Bob
Many happy returns, Bob. Thank you for continued support! 😃 It was a pleasure filming 92212 during her last days and a fine way to end the year. All the best!
A very fine tribute to a very attractive loco, and not a class I've had much opportunity to see myself. Love the style of your filming and editing, as ever - very classy! The shots at dusk are full of atmosphere, and perfect for the subject and context. Many thanks, David.
Thank you very much, David! I'm glad you enjoyed it. She's a superb machine and a firm favourite of mine among the MHR's fleet. It really was a wonderful two days of filming. I must admit, I was unaware I had a particular style, but I appreciate the compliment all the same, haha 😅
All the best, Kristian.
A beautifully crafted tribute to a wonderful Loco, owner, crews, and Mid Hants . Thank you for sharing.
Thank you! It was a wonderful couple of days filming with this lovely machine 😃
One of the best things about the MHR is seeing the 9F in action. Let’s hope the major overhaul goes smoothly and that she’s back soon. Great captures 👍
She's become a favourite of mine from the MHR fleet over the last few years, so it was a shame to see her go. As you say, hopefully it's not *too* long before she is back at work over 'The Alps'. Thanks for watching! 😃
We really enjoy your shot selection and scene setting pauses and cutaways. A very good subscribe for the discerning gunzel.
Many thanks for your kind words, Andrew 😃
Another great video - fantastic selection of locations. You were fortunate with the weather conditions and the lighting!
Many thanks again 😄 It really was an awesome couple of days of filming and it's easily one of my favourite videos I've put together.
A great production so thanks for sharing.
Many thanks!
Great film many thanks for all your hard work
Thank you very much 😃
A lovely tribute and record of the occasion, thanks Kris, made all the more enjoyable by your comprehensive narrative. A superb variety of locations - as well as particularly enjoying the last clip on the 29th, I thought it most appropriate that the coloured lights were on at Ropley. Like everybody else, I hope 92212 is back soon. Kind regards, Bob.
Thank you very much, Bob. Your kind words on every video are hugely appreciated! It was an absolute joy to film 92212 during her last days and a wonderful - even if a somewhat sad - way to end the year.
All the best, Kristian.
My pleasure entirely, thanks Kris. I only comment because I enjoy and, analysis being a lifelong habit, I generally try to say why I have enjoyed and hopefully we benefit through dialogue. Hope that doesn't sound too much like a load of rubbish! Best wishes for 2020, Bob.
Not at all, Bob. I love reading them! 😃
Very well done, yet again.
Thank you for sharing.
Happy New Year to you. Looking forward to many more of your videos.
Many happy returns, Peter. Thank you for watching 😃
Great to see that her last runs have been truly memorable.
They certainly were! Thanks for watching 😃
Excellent footage of a lovely loco, I was Visting the mid hants in April and saw it parked up beside the shed.
Thank you, Adrian. Glad you enjoyed it 😃
Great footage, the sunset really added to the atmosphere! Hope she's not out for too long! Thomas
Many thanks, Thomas 😃 Indeed, I was very lucky to enjoy some wonderfully atmospheric conditions over the two days of filming.
Lovely video.
Thank you :)
Awwww, didn't know about this happening. Once a GCR engine, now a MHR engine. Hope she comes back soon.
Likewise, hopefully she's not out for too long. Thanks for watching 😃
Stunning, magnificent work! She will be overhauled right?
Of course, they won't leave this 9f out of service for too long!
is it going into overhaul to run again or is it just finished?
I believe she's going into the overhaul queue at Crewe.
🤩👍👍
Thanks for watching 😃
