I own both the 37mm Oysterflex Yachtmaster in Everose Gold and the Submariner 124060... The Yachtmaster is just the better watch, you can tell which the people in the comment section don't own either lol. The Yachtmaster has way more customization. Different sizes, metals, straps, dial colors, etc. There's a model for everyone. It also comes with tapered lugs which curve with your wrist, the Submariner lugs aren't tapered so it looks like a flying saucer lol. The Oysterflex version of the Yachtmaster fixes all the problems. You get a Glidelock, brushed gold with polished centerlink, and a scratchproof ceramic bezel. Also, since it's a rubber band, it's not going to scratch at all. The bidirectional bezel with the muted sound is actually preferred with day to day wear. The unidirectional bezel on the Submariner is very loud and a hinderance because if you miss the bezel alignment you have to do all 120 clicks again. It makes a lot of racket and draws attention to yourself. The only department the Submariner wins in is water resistance, it's complete overkill lol. Most diving is conducted above 100m unless you work in a saturated environment.
Thanks for commenting pal, great points! Agree with your thoughts on the YM, the 40mm wears sooo well on my wrist! Would love to try out the 37mm! The gold/oysterflex YM looks incredible! and yeah, the addition of glidelock is amazing! This should be on all Rolex models if you ask me!
I wear it as a daily. It’s very versatile. More versatile than a Sub. It’s more slimmer, sleeker than a sub. Wears much better. Definitely more refined and ideal daily watch. And the curved case that hugs your wrist makes it very comfortable.
I purchased this watch last year. I absolutely adore it. The slate dial with the blue 'ice' secondhand is mesmerising, especially in natural light. It's actually my second Rolex. I also have a 'Pepsi'. For some reason the Rolex Submariner doesn't appeal to me. I think it's got a lot to do with the fact I have a few Omega watches.
Back in 2005 I actually picked a gold Yachtmaster over a gold Daytona because I felt the Yachtmaster more presence on the wrist than the Daytona, which seemed a little feminine. Although the Datona has done better in terms of appreciation, I do not regret my decision because again the Yachtmaster is a comparative beast on the wrist.
@@bastiann-k4323 I purchased the ‘Pacific Blue’ with a tang buckle. I love it, but will caution you….this particular color of blue is much more bright/electric-shade of blue. Not at all a deeper, navy shade. I just wanted you to be aware of that in case it’s not to your taste. If, instead, you’re looking for the deeper, navy shade, consider the rubber strap from Zealande. I purchased their blue model for my Omega Planet Ocean. Excellent strap as well.
Yachtmaster blue, Batman, bluesey, datejust2 azzure, yachtmaster is best of everything! The case is super comfortable until you own a few and feel the difference it’s hard to know for yourself.
The 42 mm version looks better and slimmer somehow. Proportion-wise, i think the 40 mm version will look nicer if Rolex adds 1.2 mm to the sapphire / dial diameter. So 0.6 mm thinner on the bezel and respectively smaller numerals on it. Thanks for the vid, man.
I love the look of the Yacht Master and was going to consider it as my next watch, but don’t think I can handle the scratches to the polished centre links, good job I saw this video before buying 🙏
Never mind the centre links, just try living with any scratches the platinum bezel might accumulate; it’ll break your heart. It certainly did mine! 😩😭😭
@@IrishScribbler I have had a Yachtie as a daily for 3 years and somehow my heart is still in one piece. If you intend to keep this watch forever why would scratches bother you.

Agreed. YM looks great, but not for me as a daily. It does fit perfectly though! Both great choices... Love the older SD's... we have a video on the 43mm SD coming soon and its just too big unfortunately! Thanks for taking time to watch and comment!
I was able to hold this exact watch with the rhodium dial in my hand. But I actually came across this watch because of the blue dial. Of course it's a lot louder than the rhodium dial, but for me it's somehow more lively and fresh because the blue reflects the connection to water well. I also find the contrast between blue and red very refreshing. Well, the rhodium dial was ultimately too boring for me. Why is the blue version not your choice?
Why everyone so woried about scratches!? It is a watch, not a expensive painting or one of a kind art piece. Every watch acratches, if scratches vory you, buy g shock and not metal watch.
Yo that’s not a divers watch that’s to be on a yacht like the name says lol on the water but above it not below lol 🤣🤣 This is absolutely NOT dive watch bidirectional bezel could get you killed diving 🤣🤣🤣
Lol who the fick is diving with a watch nowadays :) all these old specs are not longer curent. A dive watch nowadays is a watch you can swim with, nothing else…
Show me one real diver who uses Sub for diving. They usually keep the Sub in the locker if they own one and use cheaper dive watches. So, technically, Sub is also not an actual diving watch that is used in practise.
I dont understand the purpose of having the graduations for thr first 15 minutes if youre going to put a giant 10 emblem in the middle, makes the graduations after the 8th one near useless. Either keep the graduations to the first 5 minutes or get rid of the giant 10 on the bezel.
Before the advent of the Yacht Master, Rolex used the Submariner to promote sailing. This scratch magnet range is superfluous. You are rather vague: all Oyster watches are made to withstand an extra 25% depth rating. Your title is utterly flawed and naive.
Disagree. Regardless of personal opinion, people would potentially cross shop both models and should have as many facts on each to make a decision. Especially people who don't already know anything about the brand . Personally i agree, if it were my money id buy the sub every day if it were a choice between the two. But this isn't a review on that watch. The YT flaws are well documented in the video. Regardless, we appreciate your opinions
I agree with the guy in the video, smack bang in the middle of two categories, in my opinion it’s not smart enough as a dress watch and a scratch magnet for a daily wear. Great video mate 👍
Yachtmaster 40 absolutely sucks. It’s the dog of the range that nobody wants (and always has been) for good reason. SS submariner is a better all around watch. Better water resistance, glidelock clasp, brushed finish, and a unidirectional scratch proof bezel all make the submariner a superior watch.
Hey champ, You know for years Daytona's collected dust on AD shelves and they often gave them away in the 60s when you bought a different Rolex. Wonder what some of those are worth now.
@@davidr2802 the Daytona is extremely overhyped today because of social media. It’s always been a good tool watch, which is what it was designed to be. The yachtmaster, on the other hand, is not.
