You were the first person to mention something I've noticed from almost the start of probably a year or more watching these reviews... first the way David goes from his vocal fry immediately into such a strong and clear last few notes with no effort... no out-of-breath-ness (out-of-breath-ness?). Second his posture, specifically not raising his shoulders on inhaling, no matter the amount of air he was taking in. I was waiting for you to say something I used to say when I was teaching radio broadcasters who would inhale and raise their shoulders... @@redrosewarrior2806 ...really? Interesting... For quite some time reactions to David/Disturbed by vocal coaches and others were all I watched! Well, it seemed like that anyway. I don't recall hearing about his going from fry to gentle voice or the fact that his lungs aren't in his shoulders anywhere before this. 🤷 Must've missed it.

David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion/vocal fry and back on a dime, which is incredibly difficult to do and he makes it look so damn easy! He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful and pure tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Good job Brent....very interesting! Try "Deceiver", "The Night", "Indestructible", "The Light", and "Enough" by Disturbed too. They are a "tad" heavier...LOL.....but think you might like them too!

This is my favorite version verses the studio one because of that. Though I like the music better in the studio one. The guitar is more prevalent in that one. His higher, clean notes are clearer here. Not that his fry/distortion doesn't give me goosebumps and bring tears every time. Lol.

You are one of two vocal coaches who notices how clean his voice suddenly became on the word “sound” at the end. I like what you said about the voice and emotional portrayal of the lyrics. I have heard it said that the voice and it’s technique or only to serve the emotional portrayal, but I also know in turn that emotional portrayal services the voice. The voice never services itself, nor does it serve to show you off.
My all time favorite song! Yes, yes! Listen to more Disturbed. They always have a message that touches deeply and they make you FEEL it. Next try out A Reason to Fight, Hold on to Memories, and The Light. Everything they do is going to move you and they have 20 years or music to listen to.
Hi Brent, I really like your reaction and the fact that you know what you are talking about and can appreciate what singers can do - without getting boring and overanalysing technical things. Maybe interesting for you to know that David Draiman was really ill and his voice was also affected so that he wasn't at all in his normal power. He had to sit throughout the whole performance on this high chair, but he didn't want to cancel the performance there. So what he is doing is even more impressive, but maybe you should also watch their official MV, it is amazingly done and David is in full possession of his powers. Thank you for your good work!

Like the comment before me I too appreciate that you recognized that smooth transition from fry to clear and breath control! Watch the music video please.... not neccesarily as a reaction video ... just to see the dramatic effect, its really an amazing production. And .. just a side note. He had a bit of a head cold during this performance. I've heard different stories about the degree lol.

You definitely should. This song deeply touches your soul, your very foundations. 'The Light' by Disturbed is their normal sound but it will touch the very foundations of your heart. React to the official video and you will enjoy the lyrics as much as the performance.

Another song you should listen to from this "metal bad" is Hold on to Memories". Beautiful song that you will find out of character for them but with so much meaning to everyone that listens to it. Another FANTASTIC, meaningful song is "A Reason to Fight", which tells you where the heart of this band lies. But the Official Live version of this song is important. They are about more than making loud music.

David Michael Draiman, the lead singer of DISTURBED, was battling a cold & Flu the day of his performance on the CONAN O'BRIAN SHOW and the reason why you see him sitting down instead of standing up.
A voice for these troubled times.

Now that you have heard Disturbed doing this song, try listening to Pentatonix doing the same song. They are an acapella group and do not use any instruments. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Thank you so much! I have subscribed...great information for someone like me who knows so little about training, but who's ear can hear great vocals. I'd like to introduce you to someone you haven't reacted to yet, because I would love your feedback on her vocals. She started out as a youtube singer and is now known to be a vocal powerhouse, a Korean/American who sings in both English and Korean. She is often called the Beyonce of Korea. I would recommend her live performance on a show called Immortal Song 2 and the song is called 'Everyone'. TY.

I'm told he had a cold when he did this performance....
I love his skill - but prefer the innocence of the original. It illustrates that this change happens with a whimper, not a shout. But Disturbed version is amazing too and obviously vocally superior in the way it aims to be (Simon doesn't belt and never planned to, relying on the lyrics to do that for him). Disturbed version I suspect Simon secretly liked more than he said.
