The reason the dead kids all have different facial expressions is because it's the last face they made when the other mother sewed the buttons. I noticed that the girl with the suprised face is like that is because she started screaming in terrior. The boy is definitely passed out. The one with the braids was already dead when the other mother started sewing, maybe because the other mother became impatient...😮

I think the reason Wybie got that name is because he isn't on the book, apparently on the book Coraline isn't so talkative,she's mostly thinking with herself so they added Wybie so she would be more talkative and the audience would understand her more on the movies❤ hence the joke with his name "why were you born"
Maybe someone already mentioned this; the mice leading Coraline through the door were the ones made and controlled by the "other mother!" The real mice were the ones warning her :) Loved your reactions and commentary!
In the book the mice were a third party. It was implied that the alternate dimension and even older evil force that even the Beldam feared and the mice were its messengers and arguably the creepiest thing in the book speaking in spooky limericks.

14:26 coralines mother has a neck brace and earlier in the film coralines states "its not my fault you hit that truck" whe Mel is referring to "the accident", I think it's been confirmed (or at the very least heavily implied) that coraline and her parents had to move to the pink palace apartment because it was cheaper and they ran into a lot of financial problems because of the medical bills
I wish they would make a sequel. Coraline being an adult and Wybie being a friend and finding out that the witch found an other way to lure children into her web outside of the pink castle. Wybie sees the pocket dimension for the first time and they are trying to save a missing child.
Yesss a sequel to this would be so good to see!
Laika doesn't make sequels to their movies and already confirmed that there won't be a second Coraline, especially because there isn't a sequel to the book it was based on

16:23 So here's the thing. In the acrobatic scene the two actresses are quoting Shakespeare, Hamlet to be specific. But here's the thing, they're only talking about how 'what a piece of work is man'. They leave out the bit just after it, the bit that's the most important part of that speech. Here's the full thing - and when we see what else is going on here we realise it was intentional that the Other Mother made them stop after that:

Coraline scared me as a kid. The Beldam is the scariest and darkest antagonist in the movie. I find it very funny years later

One of my fav Halloween films. It's dark for an animated film. But done very well.
Agreed, definitely we’ll put together film all around. What got us was that it was not only dark for an animated film but the fact that it was PG and not at least PG 13 was crazy in our opinion 😱but overall, great movie just not necessarily our cup of tea 😂
@@BAUScoupleReacts well...in my opinion PG doesn't mean that babies is their target audience. Kids are allowed to like and watch dark stuff. PG-13 would have sex, cursing (except f***) and drugs. This movie doesn't include this and it's still a good movie anyone at any age can watch.

Wyborn is a real name. I heard it is more common in the UK but I looked it up and it's actually a Norse name meaning War Bear.
If you have subtitles on in the movie his name is actually spelled Whyborne with a silent e at the end
Bruh I live in the uk and have not heard ONE CITIZEN named wyborn
What makes it even better is that it's also supposed to be "why were you born" which if you've read the book, I'm pretty sure he's supposed to be the baby at the end (a baby that didn't make it if I remember correctly...yeah it's kinda weird)

So when Neil Gaimen submitted the first draft of the book this movie was based off, his editor was like “hey man you need to edit this, this is way too scary for kids.” So Neil made a bet with her, have her read it to her daughter and let her decide. If the kid thought it was too spooky then he’d rewrite it, and if not they’d publish it. Well the editor read it to the kid and the kid demanded she read the whole thing, so it was published. Years later Neil ran into the girl at an event. He thanked her and told her the role she played in getting the book published. There she admitted to him “oh I was absolutely terrified of the book, but it was so interesting I had to see how it ended. So I lied to my mom to keep her reading.”
Oh wow! I guess it was a good thing that she lied but I could see this being horrifying for kids 😂
Theres plenty of theories with this movie. The ghost children are kidnapped during different time periods: 1700s, 1800s, 1900s. The other Mother is a Beldam (witch) but her origins are unknown. The Grandma doesnt rent to people with kids but allows the Jones family to move in...that means the Grandma knew the person who kidnap her sister would be back and would take Wybie. So that's why the Grandma let the family move in. Coraline would be taken but she outsmarted the other Mother/Beldam and defeated her. So the Grandma looks surprised to see her.
I think it's supposed to be because Coraline is older and she thought it'd be safe
I'm pretty sure the Other Mother is based on the most unpleasant kinds of faerie. Enchanting and perfect and heartlessly cruel.
There's also myths/fairytales of mothers who lose their children and become twisted out of grief, stealing the children of others.

Plot twist! A youtuber theorised that the well they threw the key and rock at kinda look like the portal to the other house so basically the other mother got the key back because before the end of the movie, the cat can still teleport and the other mother still can influence the real world just to get her or some newer kids.
This movie is a gem. I have a Coraline doll in my office with her yellow raincoat. Usually a conversation starter. I need to find the one with the buttons for eyes.

Oh theres one of those stores in NYC! Gonna have to go pay them a visit and see what they have!

I am almost 22 and I am still scared of this movie after so many years 😂😭
I don't like horror movies either, but what I like about stuff like Coraline is that it isn't just trying to be scary and gory with sprinkles of wagging your finger at bad people. It has a dash of existential horror to it that sticks with you past the initial view. Psychological and Existential horrors are the type of horrors that feel way more intriguing to watch.
Also, it's Stop Motion Animation. Claymation is specifically Stop Motion that's made with clay, which Coraline is not.

It's interesting how the Other Mother always has the buttons. We know that it's possible for her to completely mimic Coraline's mom (and obviously any kids mom), judging by this moment at 21:59, you can see she has normal human eyes, and she even has the snow on her head. This is just a theory, but it might be some kind of self-preservation thing, where she wants to keep at least part of herself as her original form.
Fun fact: the two old woman were originally going to be a lesbian couple but they weren’t allowed to so now they are roommates

Im not sure if it was mentioned but Wybie's name is what it is because he is the only character that was never in the book. Ms. Lovat never had a grandson. He was created so Coraline would have another child her age to talk to.
Yeah, characters talking/thinking to themselves works fine in books, not so much in movies.
Coroline is 8-9 according to the director's but I can't remember this has been over like 13 years

Omg what a great way to start my day! Haha I obviously missed on watching this back in October. I really enjoyed watching you two react to this movie. It is a really good movie. I hope you guys were able to sleep. For me, this movie was like.. I could definitely see myself maybe wanting to stay in the other world because my home was anything but one. However, I would tell myself like “at least I know how to deal with these demons; it’s better to stay & deal. Once I can move out, I’m free.” This movie was deep to me. I love the claymation as well.
